STRENGTHS
  • Enhanced strength- The use of eletroreactive polymer limbs, combined with a power-assisted compound pulley system, allows the bow to augment the user's natural strength to a considerable degree. Generally speaking, 1 kilogram of draw weight gives your 4 pounds of effective draw weight, meaning at the top end, 50 kilograms of draw gets your 200 kilograms effective. In other words, this thing packs a punch.
  • Versatile- The quiver allows the customer to select from a variety of different types of arrowheads, and change the type used on the fly via a simple button on the bow's grip. More on that later.
  • Crimson- It looks really, really cool. Also comes with its own theme song.
WEAKNESSES
  • Slow- Changing the arrowheads takes time. Grabbing an arrow from the bow, nocking it on the string, drawing and aiming it, takes time. Though a skilled archer can be surprisingly quick, nearly any autoloading firearm or blaster will be much, much quicker.
  • Range- Though the CB&A has good range for a bow, the qualifier there is for a bow. Most modern ranged weapons, in competent hands, will outrange it, and will do so easily.
  • Size- Though compound bows like the CB&A are smaller and more compact than the longbow, they're still fairly large and cumbersome compared to most ranged weapons of comparable size and lethality. What's more, the quiver is also fairly large and cumbersome by its very nature. This is not a weapon for crawling around in tight spaces, in other words.
DESCRIPTION
The Crimson Bow & Arrow is at the cutting edge of archaic weapons systems. Though it suffers in comparison to modern ranged weapons in almost every aspect, it is a shining example of what technology and creativity can accomplish with an otherwise anachronistic design.

To start with, the CB&A uses electroreactive polymer limbs that grow more stiff when an electric current is applied to them. Through the use of a datapad and the accompanying software, one can program the level of tension in the limbs beforehand, allowing an easier or harder draw, as desired. At the top end, the CB&A boasts a mighty 50 kilogram draw weight, putting it on par with the war bows of old. What's more, the compound pulley system can further amplify the tension applied to the string upon release, potentially quadrupling the effective pull weight of the bow. While this doesn't necessarily increase the range any, it does provide a substantial boots in penetration power. With the right cutting head, the CB&A can propel an arrow through a bantha the long way, assuming the customer is up for big game hunting.

To complement the CB&A, a custom quiver was designed that allows the user to change arrowheads on the fly. The arrowheads are stored in a 10x10 grid, for a max total of 100 stored heads. For larger heads, grids can be combined as necessary. With the included software and datapad, the customer can pre-program the quiver to select heads in a particular sequence, assign sectors to the grid to allow for quicker selection, or manually select a head to be installed on the arrow in the ready position. The selection is accomplished via a programmable button on the grip. At its base setting, the user pushes the button the desired number of times for a row, pauses until the haptic feedback lets them know that the input has been accepted, and then chooses a column. They are free, however, to program whatever scheme best suits them and their needs.

At the customer's request, Rusty devised a number of custom arrowheads specifically for use with the CB&A. They are as follows:
  • Explosive- exactly what it says on the tin. An explosive charge that goes boom on impact.
  • EMP- Again, self explanatory. A short-ranged electromagnetic pulse for frying circuits.
  • Boxing Glove- Based on the same principle as a vehicular airbag, an explosive charge inflates a cloth bag shaped like a boxing glove. Triggered an instant before impact, the boxing glove inflates and strikes the target with considerable kinetic energy. Painful, but probably nonlethal.
  • Sticky- Spreads a thin layer of extremely sticky glue over about a square meter. Not always super effective, but always funny.
  • AP- Bodkin point backed by an explosive charge designed to punch through armor.
  • Broadhead- Retractable durasteel razor blades deployed by the kinetic energy of the launch that can cut through unarmored flesh like a hot knife through butter.
