Takeover of training

The best thing you have ever done using the Force? It's just the beginning: you will do even better things in time. For the time being, though, now I know why I trust you in the kitchen. If you can communicate with me with your mind alone, then you can do so with other Force-users, too, she thought, knowing how much Summer loved to even be with Jessica, regardless of what they did together. So Summer was being trained in telepathy, too? Looks much like how Jessica was trained, especially at the early stages: she was trained in multiple Force-powers in a rather quick succession, some of them even being subconscious in their learning modes, or otherwise converted from what knowledge is stored in her brain. She would using the hyperfine properties of hydrogen as a medium if she needed to use telepathy at interplanetary ranges, knowing that, the longer the range, the longer the response time between each other. But once she was done communicating her thoughts to Summer in the Force, she ate her cup of ice cream.

"Now that you know how to use telepathy, which one do you prefer between communicating to each other with the Force or using our normal voices?"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

Telepathy stimulates your Force-abilities more, and the same goes for me, too. I understand that there are times when telepathy is better than normal language, for example when you have to share secrets and you know that there are no other Force-users around than the two of us. I trust you have an idea when to use telepathy vs. normal speech, she thought, knowing that Summer is still actively reading Jessica's mind. Also, in a ysalamiri field, telepathy would be useless. Summer was lucky, in a sense, to have a training session that didn't look like it was about Force-training: while Force-training is seldom entirely fun-and-games, all too many masters, light or dark-sided, made it painful. But not only she knew that taking away one's motivation is no way to keep one learning, in fact, it can cause padawans to give up. Yet what worked on Summer may not work on everybody, and motivating students was more art than science.

"If one day you trained padawans, it's important that you keep your padawans motivated. I have seen my share of people, that were as smart as you, that become too impatient to learn and fell to the dark side because of masters that failed to keep them motivated. You need to adapt to their learning speed, and to them as people: for example, you are learning pretty fast but not everyone will be learning as fast as you do"

The cups they just ate from were rather big, enough to provide an entire meal's worth of ice cream. Jessica knew that no Jedi's training would be complete without a discussion about the Jedi Code. But, to her, it was essential that Summer knows the differences between the mainstream three Codes in the galaxy. Often people claim that none of these codes are compatible one another but the Jedi Code and the Mandalorian Code (Resol'nare - literally the Six Actions) are, in their bare-bones forms, fully compatible one another, whereas the Sith Code was not compatible with either the Jedi or the Mandalorian Codes. Yet, people in that corner of the galaxy often joke about Mandalorian Jedi only requiring three ingredients to come into being: a suit of beskar armor, a lightsaber and the light side of the Force. Change the light side of the Force for the dark, and you'd get a Mandalorian Sith instead.

"Since you're a little low on power I think the time has come to have a little discussion about the Jedi Code and how it compares to the other mainstream Codes of the galaxy. You probably have an idea as to who I am referring to when I talk about the more orthodox Jedi, that would claim we would both violate several key tenets: no-attachment and no-posession being the main ones that person accuses the both of us of doing. But these restrictions come from a book that officially lies outside the Code proper. The Mandalorian Code is much more cut-and-dry compared to the Jedi or Sith Codes: You shall wear armor, speak mando'a, defend oneself and family, raising one's children as Mandalorians, contributing to the clan's welfare and answer the call of the Mand'alor, with only the fourth and fifth ones that have any room for interpretation. So Summer, how would it even be possible for Mandalorians to be Jedi?"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

"I'm sure you heard this at least once. There is no emotion, there is peace, There is no ignorance, there is knowledge, There is no passion, there is serenity, There is no chaos, there is harmony, There is no death, there is the Force. Summer, the Jedi Code is more than just words to be memorized. Learn them, understand them. The way of the Jedi is more than about using the light side of the Force or using a lightsaber to fight the dark: all too many think that all you need to be a Jedi is a lightsaber and the light side of the Force, but you know it's not true"

In today's galaxy, even the more orthodox Jedi would readily take more than one Padawan, knowing that many Padawans either give up on their own accord, or the attrition rate of Jedi (and Sith as well) is greater than at any other time in galactic history. Given the attrition rates, many eschew formal trials altogether, preferring a record of effective field missions before knighting people. The Confederacy promised cults operational freedom for a reason. There was a reason why Jessica would have taken Summer even if Summer was not her lover: she knew that the blue-skinned woman wasn't arrogant. But there was more to Jedi-hood than showing "human" qualities, Summer will find out soon enough.

"But, what exactly do the Jedi Code dictate we do anyway, to your eyes?"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

Summer would ponder her words for a moment before answering "I believe it says that we should stop seeing things with a negative mindset and also that we should think of all things using the force as our guide at all times." She didnt know if she was right but she took a guess

[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

"Yes, these are things that are included in most common interpretations of the Jedi Code, but stopping to see things with a negative mindset doesn't mean that you should get overconfident. Only carry you as much confidence with you as your knowledge of a situation and your knowledge of your own strengths and weaknesses will allow you"

Oh, before she would move on to the other items of wisdom she wishes to impart to Summer, she has to cover the essentials, as well as their implications. She has had poor experiences of life as it pertained to FUs, as a NFU who made no obvious attempts at unlocking it until it almost became incapacitating, and as a FU. And she didn't even get to the tastier stuff of the whole Jedi vs Sith Codes. Perhaps Jessica had axes to grind against the Sith Triumvirate as a faction but, last she checked, the Triumvirate had to deal with both Mandalorians and Silver Jedi, hence why they did nothing else in CIS territory. But the juicy portion will come soon enough. I know so many are excited to go fight Sith Lords when they begin Jedi training, but there is value in knowing what makes the Sith, well, Sith, especially if she wanted to dogfight against Sith, she thought. Very few non-Mando Jedi were interested in the Mandalorian Code, whereas the Jedi-vs-Sith dichotomy was one everyone and their dog among Jedi and Sith were familiar with, so it was a good idea on her part to begin with the Jedi-vs-Mando code.

"But there is one thing that so many came expecting out of us but claim that so many among the Jedi failed to deliver: what is it?"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

"While we didn't personally fail to deliver on that point, that is, protecting the weak and defenseless from evil, there definitely are people who fancy themselves Jedi but actually are harming innocents. And I'm not talking about a collateral damage kind of thing. But collateral damage is a fact of life as a Jedi Ace"

It was obvious that she didn't ask the question as to how they personally failed to deliver, more like how Jedi at large failed to deliver. Like one Undin Jaii Kryze. But there were people who still managed to act mostly for the greater good of the community and still make some personal gain. Like one Cathul. But as she monitors Summer's Force-batteries, she began to ponder just how complex is the world of Jedi her lover is trained for. Of course, good knowledge of the self is essential to determine where one was most effective as a Jedi and as people in general, she thought. She knew Summer was a better pilot than she was, but she was still a decent pilot; she was, however, capable of piloting ships of all sizes. Yet she has to keep in mind the pleasures of the Force. Perhaps once the lessons in the Jedi doctrine ends, they can eat another Force-powered meal cooked using Summer's pyrokinesis. But unlike Cathul, who learned about both Jedi and Sith Codes as an undergraduate, Jessica had to learn these things in high school, but that's a function of different educational systems being in use.

"You see, what constitutes evil is pretty ambiguous, fair enough. You have often heard about Sith being evil and whatnot, leaving a trail of blood everywhere they go, as factions, but here is the Sith Code: Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. Please, tell me where it contradicts with the Jedi Code, and how"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

"That's a good starting point. However, even the Sith misunderstand their own code sometimes. They do wish to constantly self-improve, yes, and it is the only similarity to the Jedi Code in terms of its interpretation. But the Sith think that, for us, peace means a lack of conflict and, to them, we are stagnant once peace has been achieved. But what made the evil Sith evil was that they misunderstood what through victory, my chains are broken and The Force shall free me actually mean. Breaking the chains do not mean doing what one pleased, and all too many Sith interpret it that way. And to them, evil was just a vehicle to win: winning by means other than showing superiority on some level would have meant that victory would be illusory at best"

Jessica did know enough about the Sith Code to actually mean what she means. Evil-for-a-purpose, so long as your objectives are clear and consistent, not evil as an end in itself, that's what following the Sith Code would have meant for her. Far from her was the idea of actually being a Light Sith, or even Cathul being one, Jessica was immediately reminded of the preface of the Star Tours Guide to Force Specialties.

"That said, although for people unable to use the Force, good-vs-evil is the same as light-vs-dark, for us Force-users that is not the case. The whole notion of Dark Jedi exists mostly because there are people who use the dark side of the Force but nevertheless still follow the Jedi Code, people who use the dark side of the Force to protect the weak and innocent from evil. Light Sith, which are much less common than Dark Jedi, use the light side of the Force to do evil - although Light Sith usually tend to put more thought into what they do than everyone else in the Force-using population: titles can be deceiving"

"Summer, now that your Force-batteries have recharged, please check the battery level of any weapon you might have, blaster or lightsaber. That is, if you brought them with you"

Coci's warning about Electric Judgment was ringing in her head: A Padawan that makes an attempt at learning Electric Judgment is going to end up being very weak when using it. Back then she was the one that put the cart before the horse, learning all sorts of Force-powers that many waited until much later to learn. Like EJ, Force-cloak, mechu-deru, Instinctive Astrogation Control, although mechu-deru was subconsciously used off her back for as long as she could remember actually having had dealings with the Force, and even that was confirmation to Summer's eyes about Jessica knowing too much about the Force to be unable to use it. To her it was a miracle that these Mandalorian Jedi to whom she taught mechu-deru actually managed to be intellectually so one-dimensional that they could learn mechu-deru while almost completely lacking wisdom. But Jessica could only attribute her attitude of the time to her cognitive processes: she seemed to favor Force-powers that made intense cognitive demands (but her style of Force-usage also tends to place higher cognitive demands than normal on its practitioners).

"When I was at your level of power, Coci warned me that I wouldn't be strong enough to weaponize Electric Judgment at the time. For this reason, lightsabers or blasters low on power are great to practice Electric Judgment on: while the last person to whom I taught Electric Judgment used it mostly to defibrillate patients, most Jedi would instead use it to recharge a lightsaber at first"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

"So your blaster is fully charged? Might be best to ask you what you would like to eat so that you can try pyrokinesis again; this is for you. You learned a lot in just two days"

She knew making Summer learn Electric Judgment on top of pyrokinesis, cryokinesis and tapas, as well as about the relationship between the Jedi, Sith and Mandalorian Codes was a lot. She knows that, now that they are both legitimate Force-users, they have a new instrument to make their romance work. Now that they understood that the Jedi Code means that they need to make some effort every step of the way if they think their romance truly is beneficial. Oh, of course, she knew that the initial learning was one thing. But later stages of learning occur on the padawan's own. Facilitating learning isn't about learning the most things as fast as possible. It's also about when to stop, and when to continue learning another day, especially because she knows not everyone will learn at the same speed. That's a lot to ask for, but respecting a learner means also respecting the speed at which one learns.

"I accepted to train you, love, because I love you. I think a break from learning more things is called for"

[member="Summer Sovereign"]

"Just wait a little bit"

Jessica went outside the training room to look for some food for the two of them to eat as a meal for the two of them to eat. In the building's storage room, is a frozen Ziro all-dressed stuffed crust pizza still in its original box. Said pizza was containing nerf cheese, sliced bantha meat, green and red peppers as well as mushrooms. Hmmm... Pizza Hutt, there for all your pizza fixes. Upon returning to the room, she finds Summer meditating on the ground, in an attempt to recharge one's Force-batteries. At least neither were particularly picky eaters, and that was a boon. The giant woman opens the box of frozen pizza and presents it to her lover, while giving instructions to her related to its use.

"Here, take this frozen Ziro all-dressed stuffed crust pizza and use the Force to heat it until it is edible to your taste. By now you know that what's good for you to eat, is good for me, too"
