This thread will be the only AI thread I'm leaving up. I do not like intervening, I do not like stifling conversation, but hoo boy did I find the hot topic of the year with expanding the conversation.
I won't apologize for yesterday's rage baiting, it was funny in the moment. But I will admit that it does get boring fast, and will agree with those in the community who would like these distractions to have... less impact on the overall community's discusisions. I have a habit of pouring gasoline on fires, it is both a boon and a shortcoming, and sometimes I'll refuse to resist the blaze.
This thread is Staff's official position, but it is not the individuals of the SWRP Staff Team's opinions. Everyone is free to have their own, though I do think we all generally fall on the same side of the issue.
I do not care. It is not my problem to solve. Seriously. I will not amplify the usage of LLM or model training tools, I will not diminish them. I am responsible only as far as this website is concerned, and there is only so much I can do to safeguard it from abuse, however it takes form, within reason. I have only one hard line in the sand, as the conversation is concerned -
I will not tolerate, nor support, "scarlet lettering" individuals for using LLMs to write. It is absurd, it is cultish, it is cliquey, it is toxic, and you are becoming something you hate in order to combat something else you hate. If you support witch hunting, if you support mob rule, you will either 1) get eaten by your own kind or 2) get eaten by me. It is a futile effort, and one not worth pursuing by any stretch of common reasoning.
I will be toning down my own heat on the subject, we all had our fun. But I will say, if you think Kevin Baconing me "6 degrees away from killing people in Gaza" is a worthy notion to explore in a conversation about AI, you are so @#$%ing lost in the sauce, lmfao. Literally touch grass. I am actually just a roleplay forum owner. I have about as much impact on these subjects as those people who add french flags to their Facebook avatars, or black squares to their Facebook avatars. Online activism is self-gratifying. If you want to be the change you want to see in the world, you wouldn't be here trying to enact it - this is not where it will happen.
But, I do think it was worthy conversation to have. A fun, interesting one. Had no idea some of ya'll were so worked up over it, but hey. We're roleplayers. We excel at being dramatic.
This thread is locked. The non-staff ones will be left up, if you wish to continue the conversation.
