Summaries of the Past (Board History Summaries)

It was recently brought to my attention that in the codex I ask for members to add in board history events (such as Netherworld, Gulag Plague etc) when those members may not have been there at the time.
Even veteran members might not be able to remember details, especially as many early threads were lost in the crash, or are locked up in massive threads.
Whilst there are summaries in the timelines, these lack the depth one might wish for, especially for someone looking to write a world or species which experienced it.

So what I’m going to do is outsource it to the members. What I want is clear, objective summaries of the events listed below so that a new member who had just joined could instantly understand what had happened. Those chosen will then be credited in the document I add to the Codex.

Board Canon Events: (Red font events are major events which deserve the most attention)

  • The Gulag Plague
  • Formation of the Republic and Sith Empire
  • The Glory That Was The Bluehawks
  • Clockwork Rebellion
  • The Battle of Roche
  • Dark Harvest
  • The Valen Campaign
  • Fall of the Sith Empire
  • Masks of Madness
  • The Rise and Fall of the Omega Protectorate
  • Rise of the One Sith
  • The Netherworld Crisis
  • Current Day (84xABY)

If there are other events I’ve missed do let me know and I’ll see if they need adding.

I’ll be accepting applications for one week.

The Battle of Drunkenwell might be good to include.

Signified the ASA's big switch into our current day Techno Union. The world also kinda got screwed. I'm also biased because it featured my favorite character death.

It's funny like that. After a 400 year darkness we've recovered everything you can find on the Wookieepedia. All of it. Heck, people quote Luke Skywalker like he lived yesterday, recreate Revan's favorite breakfasts recipes from Holonet Blogs, and children can identify a Ratakan Sword just by it's color. Ugh. But can anybody tell me about this board's history? Nooo. Can anybody remember their own faction's history? Nooo. And why? Because we don't record these things and they don't really even matter anymore. Sure. There was just an endless string of Dominions that made the map (twice) and a bunch of nameless Invasions were nobody died but our feelz. Factions come and go and leave zero lasting impact upon the player base. Anybody remember that one time when Omega Pyre wiped out the Reavers from Core Space forever? Nahhh.

I applaud the effort Valens but this is a lot of work that is just plain irrelevant to the RP. We've built entire empires, destroyed Mass Effect's Reapers, journeyed to Hell, and even killed a God. The only thing left for this site's canon to explore is a final Chess match between Teferi and Zero to determine the fate of the universe. Aside from that? The most important querie on anybodies mind these days is still just trying for a Jedi Master for their Padawan Alts.

Anyway. I hope I've talked you out of this idea by now. If not? Good luck and God speed! :p

What I mean is. If 99.9% of our RPs, character bios, and manufacturing prowess can ignore the Galactic Events entirely? So probably can our Codex Entries. :)

They can, but I don't want them to. I want the things people have done here to be remembered somewhat, or why have a timeline at all?

The reason why so many ignore it is that they don't know about it.

How many members RP on Dromund Kaas despite the fact it was reduced to a glassed wreck?

It would be of infinite benefit to this site if these things are available for everyone. If they choose not to read it, so be it, but let the option be there.
