- Introduction

The lightsaber is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. An elegant weapon, deserving of respect. It is not only a weapon, but the symbol of a Jedi's duty to defend the galaxy.
To a Jedi, the saber is his life. A part of him, a reflection of his spirit. To be parted from it is to be less than whole.
A lightsaber is more than crystal and plasma. It is more than the glow of its blade or the hum in the air. It is the sum of its parts, shaped by the soul of its maker. In the crystal's song, the lens's focus, the emitter's flow... there lies the echo of the Jedi who built it. No two blades are ever the same, for no two spirits are alike.
Never draw your blade in anger. Never draw it unless you are prepared to take a life and bear the weight such a choice demands. A Jedi's duty is to defend the innocent, to protect peace where it falters, and to act as a guardian of balance within the galaxy. You must safeguard the sanctity of life, preserve it where it wanes, and honor it even in your enemies. To raise your blade is to accept responsibility for all that follows. The ripples of every choice extend far beyond the strike itself.
Remember this: to ignite the blade is to accept its burden.
Inside this holocron lies my study of construction:
Crystals, lenses, emitters, and the harmonies that bind them.
To master the saber, one must first master its song.
Not all crystals sing with the same voice.
Not all lenses shape the same edge.
Not all emitters flow with the same current.
Yet together, they weave the rhythm of combat... and the soul of the wielder."The crystal is the heart of the blade. The heart is the crystal of the Jedi. The Jedi is the crystal of the Force. The Force is the blade of the heart. All are intertwined: the crystal, the blade, the Jedi. You are one." - Luminara Unduli
There comes a time in every Jedi hopeful's life when they must undergo the Gathering. It is a sacred rite of passage that has shaped our Order for generations. To seek your kyber crystal is to stand before a mirror the Force holds before you. What you see there will not always be flattering, and what you endure may follow you for the rest of your path.
The Gathering has most often been held on Ilum, within vast cavern of ice, and seemingly endless stretches of tunnels, though in other ages it was conducted on worlds like Jedha and even that of Lothal. The task is simple in description: enter the caverns, listen to the Force, and retrieve the crystal that calls to you.
In truth, the test is never so simple. On Ilum the caves close with the sun's passage; time becomes your enemy as surely as the frigid cold. The air burns your lungs, and the walls shift in silence, allowing illusions to whisper at the edges of your mind. Listen well apprentice... The lesson here is about patience, trust, and the humility to fail if that is what the Force wills.
Know this: no two Gatherings are alike. The cavern speaks to each of us differently. To one it may reveal fear, to another, doubt. Some are made to confront loneliness. Others find themselves tested by pride. Always, the crystal is present, but it will not reveal itself to hands that grasp too tightly.
I tell you this because I have walked those caverns myself, more times than I care to admit.
I will not pretend I passed the Gathering with grace.
The first time I walked into the caves of Ilum, I thought the Force would bend simply because I believed it would. I had read the stories, heard the lessons, and thought I was ready. But the cold has a way of stripping you of such illusions of grandure.
At first it was only a shiver I had ignored. But hour by hour it seeped into my bones, until even drawing breath felt torturous. My thoughts dulled, and my focus drifted, and all I could hear was my own teeth chattering. I never even reached the chamber where the crystal waited. By the time the ice sealed the entrance behind me, I realized the truth: belief is nothing without preparation. The Force is not impressed by bravado.
The second time, I thought myself wiser. I came wrapped in lessons and determination. I lasted longer, and ventured deeper, and for a moment I even felt the faint pull of something ahead, the whisper of a crystal calling to me. But I was not alone in the caves that day.
A Gorgodon crossed my path, made from a mountain of fur and muscle with hunger in its eyes. Fear urged me to run, but pride told me I could outmaneuver it. I wasted hours darting through passages, doubling back, scrambling over ice ridges, always just ahead of its roar and slashing claws.
When finally I shook free of it, I found myself standing before and below the very crystal I had sought… and then I heard the crack of ice above. The exit was already closing. Time had outwitted me as surely as the beast had. I returned empty-handed, with my wounded pride heavier than any stone.
Twice I had entered the caverns, and twice I had been humbled. The first time, the cold taught me patience. The second, the Gorgodon taught me humility as arrogance lost me precious time. But both lessons came with empty palms.
It was not until my third attempt that I had succeeded. I remember the silence of the caves most of all as it was not the comforting silence of meditation, but an oppressive hush, that cloaked my every step with a heavy looming shroud. I walked deeper than ever before, cautious and careful… and still, the ground betrayed me. A sheet of ice broke beneath my feet, and I plummeted into the darkness below.
I landed hard, my arm torn open by jagged ice. The cold bit into my sound as it spilled across the cavern floor, and despair filled my heart. The silence warped into something cruel as visions of my fears were made flesh in the shadows that crept ever closer from the corners.
I broke beneath them, gasping, and flailing at the illusions as my fear consumed me, stripping me bare of pride and confidence alike. In those moments, apprentice, I was no Jedi. I was only a boy, terrified and alone.
I cried out in desperation for help, and the cavern answered with the same oppressive silence. An in that silence, I nearly gave up.
But another apprentice had followed me down. She tended my wounds, and quieted my panic with her soft words, refusing to let me vanish into the dark.
She had paused her own trial to help me. And in doing so, she saved more than my life; she saved my spirit. With her presence, the shadows receded, and I found the strength to stand again.
And then I heard it... a gentle hum, soft and melodic that I felt more in the heart than the ear. In that moment I understood: the crystal had never denied me. I had denied myself, blinded by pride, crippled by fear. Only when I accepted my weakness, when I allowed another to lift me, did the Force guide me true.
My saber's heart did not come to the boy who demanded it, nor to the youth who thought himself clever. It came to the one who could finally listen. The crystal was not calling to my pride or to my strength, but to the part of me that had been broken... and steadied by another's hand.
Even if you walk the cavern in solitude... the Force itself walks with you. That was the day my saber's heart came to rest in my palm.
"Remember this, apprentice: the cave is a mirror. It will show you your hunger, your fear, your arrogance, and your doubt. Do not chase the crystal for it does not flee. Do not demand it, it will not yield. Wait, listen, and let yourself be carried. The river's water wears down stone, as wind carves through ice, so too will patience open the path.
A saber's heart is not forged in fire, but found in silence.

Materials & Craftsmanship
Various Substances can we used in Lightsaber construction.
The materials chosen for a lightsaber hilt define durability, symbolism, and function.
Metals & Alloys: Provide strength and resilience. Rare alloys like Phrik, Songsteel, and Beskar resist lightsaber strikes, while common Durasteel ensures reliability. Prestige metals such as Electrum mark rank or heritage.
Crystals & Gems: Beyond the kyber crystal, decorative or secondary stones (e.g. Krayt pearls, Rainbow gems) add cultural or Force significance.
Organics: Woods, bone, and tusks personalize the weapon, often symbolizing harmony with nature or a Jedi's heritage.
Force-Enhanced Materials: Some hilts are bound with mystically imbued metals or crystals, letting the weapon channel the wielder's Force connection.
Choosing materials should be a blend of practicality and an expression of personal spirituality. The saber is an extension of the Jedi, reflecting their identity, culture, and bond with the Force.
Metals & Alloys - Metals | Alloys
Material Importance Electrum / Aurodium Prestige metal, used for gold detailing (e.g. Jedi Council sabers). Symbol of authority and mastery. During the era of the Republic, the Jedi High Council often adorned their sabers with electrum detailing as a mark of mastery. Electrum embellishments may denoted Council rank. Among the Sith, electrum was also used symbolically, often to project wealth, power, or divine right. Though not stronger than other alloys, its true value lay in status, tradition, and legacy. Cortosis Famous for shorting out lightsabers; woven into hilts or guards for dueling and ambush tactics. Beskar Mandalorian iron, legendary resilience. Rare outside Mandalorian smiths; resists saber strikes. Adamantite "Metal of Legends," used in hilt cores and scabbards. Associated with indestructibility and mythic craftsmanship. Resists saber strikes. Krysteel (Kyber-Iron) Force-sensitive alloy; bonds with kyber, amplifying connection to the Force and enhancing saber resilience. Durasteel The galaxy's most common durable alloy. Used in armor, starship hulls, and saber hilts. Resists lightsabers to a degree but not impervious. Favored for practicality and availability. Phrik Rare, lightsaber-resistant alloy. Stronger than durasteel, yet lighter than beskar. Used in electrostaffs, Sith sabers, and rare Jedi weapons. Darth Sidious' apprentice sabers were made from phrik. Songsteel Elegant and lightweight, yet highly durable against lightsabers. Favored for refined dueling blades and ceremonial weapons where grace and resilience meet. Stygian-triprismatic polymer Advanced hardened duraplast variant. Lightsaber-resistant and capable of enhancing stealth fields and sound dampeners. Used in Shadow Stormtrooper armor and stealth-based Mandalorian gear.
Crystals, Gems & Pearls Gemstones
Material Importance Meditation Crystal Enhances focus and clarity; often set into hilts as ornamental eyes or accents.
Organics & Natural Materials
Material Importance Jakobeast Tusk Ivory-like material carved for smooth grips, culturally tied to hunters and warriors. Veshok Wood / Greel Wood / Kriin-Wood / City-Tree-Wood Durable Force-attuned woods, used in hilts or scabbards; symbolic of natural harmony with the Force. Shimmersilk / Dramassian Shimmersilk / Vine-Silk Rare fabrics, used for wrapping or ceremonial bindings; shimmer and shift in the light, often gifted to Jedi of high esteem.
Force-Enhanced Materials
Material Importance Force Weapon Weapons enhanced to resonate with the Force, adapting to the wielder's connection. Force-Imbued Blade Mystically imbued; grants durability, energy channeling, and the ability to reflect the wielder's Force alignment (even color-shifting blades).

Saber Crystals
At the heart of every lightsaber lies a crystal, the conduit that focuses raw energy into a coherent plasma blade. The most iconic are Kyber crystals, naturally attuned to the Force and bonded to their wielder through ritual and meditation. This bond gives each saber its unique color, resonance, and connection.
Other rare crystals from Krayt dragon pearls to Rainbow gems , may add exotic properties, cultural prestige, or personal symbolism. Some enhance cutting power, others refine focus, and many reflect the philosophy or heritage of their wielder.
For Jedi, finding a saber crystal is a sacred rite called the "Gathering." For Sith, the process of bleeding or corrupting a crystal is equally defining. In both cases, the crystal is the soul of the weapon, and a mirror of its wielder's essence.
Kyber Crystal Effects Index
Legendary Crystals
Name Effect Adegan crystal (Kathracite, Relacite, Danite, Mephite, Pontite) A Force-attuned kyber crystal that bonds with a wielder, able to hold and amplify a small amount of their power. Commonly used in lightsaber construction; five known subtypes include mephite. A basic member of the Adegan family, commonly used by Jedi as a lightsaber focusing crystal for millennia. Considered the weakest of the Adegan types, producing blades with lower energy output but stable resonance. A mid-tier Adegan crystal. Channels energy less efficiently than mephite but more effectively than relacite, producing blades with moderate cutting power. Often used in Jedi training sabers for reduced lethality. An Adegan crystal of low potency. Provides weaker energy channeling than danite or mephite, resulting in blades with reduced cutting power. Historically used in Jedi lightsabers despite its limited effectiveness. A high-grade Adegan crystal valued for producing powerful, stable blades with strong cutting ability. More efficient at channeling energy than kathracite, relacite, or danite. Considered second only to pontite in strength. The rarest and most powerful Adegan crystal. Produces exceptionally strong, stable blades with the highest cutting and energy channeling capacity of its family. Highly prized among Jedi for its potency. Ilum crystal A high-quality kyber crystal found in the caves of Ilum. Comparable to mephite and pontite in strength, it produces strong, stable blades ideal for Jedi. Traditionally acquired during the Padawan rite known as The Gathering. Kyber crystal The core focusing element of every lightsaber, attuned through the Force to produce the blade. Different crystals or substitutes (gems, pearls, stones, even remains or machinery) create unique colors and effects, ranging from enhanced Force abilities to specialized blade properties. Natural crystals provided the most stable blades, while Sith often forged synthetic red crystals that yielded more powerful and sometimes unstable effects. Bondar Converts saber energy into a stunning discharge rather than a lethal cut. Strikes can briefly stun or incapacitate an opponent, making it a favored choice for training sabers during the Old Republic era. Damind Produces a wider, longer blade than standard, improving deflection against blaster fire. Originates from the planet Daminia; mineral form known as damindium. Dantari crystal Kyber crystals native to Dantooine, often discovered in kinrath egg chambers. Valued by Jedi for lightsaber construction; strongly Force-attuned and resonant, they enhance the wielder's connection to the Force while in use. Dragite crystal Generates a blade that resonates loudly on impact, delivering minor sonic damage in addition to the normal strike. Found in the D'olop Mountain Range on M'haeli, valued both as a power source and for saber use. Dragite gem Fragile kyber crystal from M'haeli that produces a loud hum when set in a lightsaber. On impact, the blade resonates with sonic force, releasing shockwaves that disorient or cause minor sonic damage in addition to the strike. Durindfire Precious crystal from Tatooine that alters a lightsaber's blade to shine with a distinctive silver glow. Traditionally carried by the Halcyon/Horn Jedi lineage. Also used by Jawas for protective lenses against harsh desert sunlight. Eralam Rare crystal once mined on Erai's third moon. Produces a clear, refined, and superior lightsaber beam with heightened precision and cutting performance. Mineral form known as eraladium. Firkrann Dense crystal from Rafa V that imbues a lightsaber blade with an electrical charge, making it especially effective against droids. Historically favored by some Sith Lords. Jenruax A refined form of Opila, purified of impurities. Produces a blade with enhanced agility, making it highly effective for deflecting blaster fire and improving saber control. Kasha Traditional Cerean meditation crystal engraved with focusing patterns. When set in a lightsaber, it clears the wielder's mind of distractions, improving focus and mental clarity even in combat. Opila Crystal mined from the Fyrth system asteroid field. Generates an intense, high-energy blade capable of cutting through most materials with speed and efficiency. Phond A rare industrial byproduct that produces a fiercely burning blue-white blade, noted for its volatile and fiery energy output. Rubat Crystal from Phemis that sharpens the clarity and definition of a lightsaber blade, making it easier for the wielder to track and land precise strikes. Enhances speed of attack and accuracy in combat. Sigil crystal Rare and costly crystal from the Sigil system. Produces an exceptionally potent blade with a searing effect, increasing the damage dealt by strikes. Known to have been wielded by both Jedi and Sith, including Marka Ragnos. Upari Brittle but versatile crystal found near forest worlds. Its properties can be shaped by skilled Jedi, producing a variety of effects. When cut or refined, especially by Wookiee artisans, its power increases significantly.
Exotic / Rare / Visual Crystals
Name Effect Barab ingot Rare kyber crystal from Barab I, found within Barab ore on the planet's irradiated surface. Naturally hot to the touch and faintly radioactive, it produces a fiery blade that burns with such intensity it can set struck targets aflame. Blackwing Crystal Formed through exposure to the Sith-engineered Blackwing virus. When set in a lightsaber, it produces a dark, ash-like blade. These corrupted crystals were discovered on Dathomir during a Blackwing outbreak tied to undead creatures. Bravis Sith Crystal Sith-forged crystal that generates a crimson blade with a sparkling appearance. Primarily used in Bravis Sith lightsabers, giving their weapons a distinct visual signature. Crimson Prowler Crystal Produces a blade with a distinct sparkling aura, identical in effect to the Bravis Sith Crystal but distributed under a different name. Compressed energy crystal (CEC) - CEC (base): keep the thinner/pulsating blade description.
- Corrosion: replace with "A red CEC variant with pulsating thin blade; sometimes described as corrosive, but more often simply perceived as cutting with unusual effectiveness."
Corrosion A compressed energy crystal variant that creates a corrosive blade; contact with an opponent causes their body or equipment to corrode and deteriorate. Corusca gem Creates an exceptionally durable and razor-keen blade, capable of slicing through transparisteel and other dense materials with ease. The gem's immense hardness makes it one of the most powerful and destructive crystals when used in a lightsaber, though it is vulnerable at rare shatterpoints that can cause the entire gem to collapse if struck precisely. Dahgee crystal Produces a lightsaber blade with a distinct zigzagging energy pattern, giving it a chaotic and intimidating edge in combat. The distorted blade makes parries less predictable, while the dark silver core reinforces striking power.
(Other)
Name Effect Focus Strengthens a wielder's connection to the Force, especially during the exertion of Force powers. Commonly aids in clarity, meditation, and attunement, allowing for steadier control of both lightsaber combat and Force techniques. Ghostfire crystal Produces a nearly invisible, dim blade that generates little to no sound. The blade leaves behind ghostly afterimages as it moves, disguising its true position and disorienting opponents. Silent, illusory, and difficult to detect, the ghostfire crystal was highly prized both for stealth and psychological advantage in combat. Gungan crystal A novelty crystal tied to the Ultimate FX Gungan Lightsaber, primarily appearing in Clone Wars Adventures. Its unusual effect was more aesthetic than practical, making it a collectible oddity rather than a combat staple. Healing crystal Varies. Enhances Force healing, accelerating recovery and aiding treatment of injuries. Hurrikaine Produces a violet blade exceptionally good at penetrating defenses, especially energy shields. Highly resilient and valued for its ability to bypass barriers. Katak Varies. Lightsabers powered by this crystal drain the life force of those nearby, weakening them over time. Prolonged exposure can prove fatal, and strikes siphon portions of an opponent's vitality to the wielder. Kimber stone Varies. Produces a non-lethal lightsaber blade, originally considered unsuitable for combat. Krayt dragon pearl Colors vary (blue, green, red, white, black). Produces a lightsaber blade of intense power, highly destructive, and marked by a distinctive howling resonance. Lambent Emits a pale golden light, brightness adjustable by thought. In a lightsaber, it resonates differently than kyber—providing a faint empathic link to the Yuuzhan Vong, allowing Jedi to sense or presense them where the Force failed. Lava crystal Produces a heavy, molten-looking blade resembling flowing lava. The blade radiates intense heat, with sparks, flames, and even bits of molten energy splashing or dripping from it. Life Drain Emits a green blade infused with parasitic energy. Each strike siphons vitality from opponents, restoring the wielder's own strength. Lignan Color varies. Produces a blade that burns hotter and lasts longer than standard lightsabers, allowing it to cut through materials more quickly. The crystal also amplifies the wielder's connection to the dark side, enhancing their Force power. Lorrdian gemstone No fixed color. Lightsabers attuned with these gems grant the wielder heightened perception of an opponent's movements, allowing them to anticipate strikes and blaster fire. This manifests as a natural combat precognition, sharpening defenses and reaction speed. Luxum Typically a pale green crystal, though color could vary slightly. Lightsabers built with Luxum emitted blades carrying a subtle ionizing effect, making them especially effective against droids and mechanical constructs. Marilite While not a true kyber, marilite could serve as a substitute energy source in weapon components, including blasters and even lightsabers in some cases. Crystals fashioned from marilite lacked the resonance of kyber but were still capable of channeling energy, making them a practical—if inelegant—option for low-tier lightsabers, artifice crafting, and augmentations. Meditation crystal A crystal from Tython that produced a steady, luminous blade (color varied, often blue) while deepening the wielder's connection to the Force. When set in a lightsaber, it helped the user maintain focus, conserving stamina and restoring energy during combat by reinforcing meditative balance with every strike. Nak'tra crystal A rare crystal from the Myyydril Caverns of Kashyyyk, often dark-hued, that produced a potent, deadly blade. Highly valued for its combat strength, it enhanced lightsabers with sharper cutting power and was considered a prized weapon material, its very name meaning "deadly" in the Myyydril tongue. Nextor A crystal mined from the mountains of M'haeli, typically variable in color, that produced a volatile yet powerful blade. Lightsabers fitted with Nextor crystals generated unstable energy, amplifying cutting strength but making the weapon unpredictable. Nihil Smokestone A smoky-gray mineral used by the Sorcerers of Rhand, it radiated a mental resonance that acted as both transmitter and receiver, enabling its wielder to project commands and seize control of nearby minds, turning victims into obedient Pawns. Nishalorite Dark-gray to blue-black in hue, Nishalorite stones resonated with planetary magnetism. When set into a lightsaber, they produced a dense, weighty blade that intensified whenever it aligned toward magnetic north, giving the weapon an almost compass-like pull of power. Valued at 12,500 credits, they were prized by seekers who discovered them on worlds with strong magnetic fields. Obsidian Produces a red blade when installed in a lightsaber, carrying properties similar to corrupted kyber; blade manifests with a sharp, violent presence tied to dark side energy. Permafrost crystal Imbues the lightsaber with a cold, frost-like energy; blades cut with chilling intensity and are uniquely attuned only to the Force-user who tunes them. Qixoni Greatly amplifies a lightsaber's power and enhances the wielder's Force abilities. Formed in supernova remnants, the crystal's resonance is volatile and most often aligned with the dark side. Rainbow gem Produces a shimmering, prismatic blade that resonates with life energy. Rare silicon-based lifeforms from Gallinore, rainbow gems glow with their own inner light and can be used as lightsaber crystals. Their living nature lends a heightened vitality and unique brilliance to the blade. Rhyolite A simple crystal often used in the construction process of lightsabers. Functional but lacking unique resonant properties or special effects. Rol Stone Produces a brilliant crimson blade with heightened luster. Extremely rare and valuable, Rol Stones were prized both as gemstones for fine jewelry and as lightsaber crystals, channeling intense power into a saber's blade. Ruusan crystal Does not alter blade performance but aids the wielder in focusing the Force. Highly valued for beauty and often used as currency in the Core Worlds; their use was lost after the Ruusan Reformation. Sapith Produces an intense yet highly stable blade, easier to control than most others. Seeker crystal Forms a pink blade that attunes to the wielder through the Force, allowing them to sense nearby beings and detect hidden dangers. Sorian crystal Produces a blade that releases a surge of power on contact, its fiery shimmer distracting opponents and destabilizing their guard, granting the wielder opportunities for sudden counterstrikes. Stygium Best known for its cloaking properties; when forged into a lightsaber, the crystal augments stealth, shrouding the wielder and enhancing their ability to remain unseen through the Force. Synthetic lightsaber crystal Artificially forged crystals that generate more powerful but less stable blades; often stronger than natural crystals, with potential to overload and "break" an opponent's saber. Variants include compressed (thin, precise blade) and unstable (crackling, sparking, highly damaging but unreliable). Tainted Nightsister Crystal Soaked in Dathomir's ichor, these corrupted kyber crystals emit a blade wreathed in choking, putrid green smoke, its Force connection twisted by Nightsister magic. Known for its purity and resilience, Jedi healer Cilghal famously wielded a saber powered by an Ultima Pearl. Varpeline Produces a blade with an intense cutting edge and a sharp, distinctive sound on impact. Its density allows it to slice through some of the toughest materials more efficiently than standard lightsaber blades. Velmorite Produces a fine, thin yellow blade ideal for graceful, fluid, and elegant combat styles. Commonly associated with high-quality Velmorite energy swords. Vexxtal Commonly attuned to the dark side; blades forged with this crystal leave a corrupting aura on those they wound, inflicting lingering spiritual and physical taint. Viridian crystal Produces a lightsaber blade with a rare shimmering hue, associated with balance and calm precision in combat. Zophis crystal Creates an unstable, devastating blade capable of cutting through heavy durasteel plating with destructive resonance.

On the Attunement of a Kyber Crystal
A kyber crystal is no lifeless gem. It is alive in the Force, and it will not serve one who seeks only to wield it as a tool. To attune to a crystal is to open yourself utterly to the currents of the Living Force, so that crystal and wielder may become as one.
The process is as follows:
The initiate journeys to a sacred site where kyber crystals grow: Ilum, Jedha, or another world where the Force runs strong. Here, the crystal waits for the most open spirit. Many will see crystals glimmer and call out to them in the Force. The right crystal chooses the one it will bond with.
When you first touch the crystal, you do not seize it. You listen. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let the currents of the Force flow between you and it. You may feel warmth, hear a tone, or glimpse visions. Each crystal speaks differently, for each carries its own resonance.
In seclusion, the initiate spends hours, sometimes days, meditating with the crystal. One projects thoughts of purpose, discipline, and identity into the gem, and in return, the crystal opens itself. Slowly, the bond forms. The kyber aligns with your spirit, and your spirit with it. It is in this act that the blade's color is set for a Kyber.
For Jedi, the bond is gentle. They seek harmony, balance, and unity with the Force. The crystal responds in kind, producing blades of blue, green, or other hues born of clarity. For the Sith, the ritual is a perversion called bleeding. They pour rage, pain, and dominance into the crystal until it screams and cracks, bending its will to theirs. Thus, its natural light is choked into red flame.
Once the bond is strong, the crystal is set into the focusing chamber of the hilt. It must be done with patience, for misalignment may cause the blade to short, or stutter. When the emitter ignites for the first time, the crystal and wielder breathe as one, bound in symbiosis.
Attunement is not a single act, but a lifelong relationship. The crystal grows with you, resonating with your triumphs, your struggles, even your doubts. In time, it may change hue or intensity as your connection to the Force evolves. Some masters report their blades "sing" in harmony with their meditations, a sign that crystal and wielder have become truly inseparable.
Thus, a lightsaber is not merely constructed. It is born of a union between living crystal and living soul. Treat the crystal as a servant, and it will betray you. Treat it as a partner, and it will illuminate your path.
On Purification and Corruptions
The kyber crystal is alive in the Force, and like all living things, it may be nurtured or it may be wounded. In the hands of the Jedi, crystals are brought into harmony, singing with the wielder's spirit. Yet in the hands of the Sith, these same crystals may be bent, choked, and broken until their light is strangled into crimson.
Bleeding: The Way of Corruption
To "bleed" a crystal is to smother it beneath one's rage and hatred. A Sith takes a natural kyber and pours into it their pain, their fury, their will to dominate. The crystal, attuned to harmony, resists. It screams in the Force, sometimes shattering beneath the weight of corruption.
In this torment, the crystal's natural light is extinguished. Its bond is broken, and in place of resonance comes only obedience. The blade ignites red, a wound made manifest.
The Sith view this as victory: proof that even the living Force may be enslaved to their dominance. Yet it is a hollow victory, for such a blade reflects not unity, but suffering.
Purification: The Way of Healing
A corrupted crystal may yet be healed. Through deep meditation and surrender, a Jedi may take a bleeding kyber into themselves, not to dominate it, but to listen.
The Jedi reaches into the heart of the crystal's pain, offering compassion, patience, and serenity. Slowly, the corruption is drawn out, the darkness undone.
When the wound is healed, the crystal shines again. Yet it no longer returns to its original state...rather, it becomes something new: a white crystal, purified of past alignment, a symbol of renewal.
The white blade stands as testament to resilience. It is the song of survival after suffering, clarity after corruption. Those who wield such blades are often seen as guardians, healers, or seekers.
Thus the truth is revealed: a kyber crystal is a mirror to the soul. In corruption, it reveals the wielder's wounds. In purification, it reveals the wielder's capacity for compassion. In both, the bond between living being and living Force is laid bare.
- Saber Focusing Lenses
-
Preface on Saber Focusing Lenses
A lightsaber's focusing lens is the final voice of the crystal. It takes the raw resonance of the kyber and gives it shape, edge, and stability. The wrong lens makes a saber unreliable; the right one defines the weapon's style as surely as the hand that wields it.
At the most basic level, a lens bends energy the way glass bends light. In mundane optics this is called refraction. As light slows while passing through denser material, it bends. That bending is what lets a lens focus, spread, or redirect a beam.
Convex Lenses: Converge energy to a point, producing a sharper and more intense blade.
Concave Lenses: Spread energy outward, softening or widening its profile.
Composite Lenses: Combine multiple elements to cancel out flaws and balance properties.
Artisans layer lenses to correct distortions or sharpen focus. In sabercraft this principle holds true. No single lens offers perfection in stability, precision, and destructive power. By combining two or three, an artisan can balance trade-offs, correct weaknesses, and amplify strengths. But there are limits.
In practice, two to three lenses is the maximum. Anything more creates instability and fuzziness. The energy field grows erratic, turning a weapon of discipline into a hazard.
Remember:
- The crystal is the heart, resonating with the wielder's intent.
- The lens is the voice, shaping how that intent becomes a blade.
Do not confuse possibility with wisdom. Just because you can force four lenses together does not mean you should.
Poor (–1)

Strong (+1)
Excellent (+2)
The plain focusing lens is the unsung hero. It sharpens, defines, and makes the blade a true tool rather than a wild torch. Every saber should have one, though few ever give it thought.

On Emitters
At the crown of every saber rests the emitter; the throat through which the crystal's song becomes a blade. It is here that the energy is bent into plasma, caught and folded back on itself by magnetic fields so it does not spill away. The type of emitter chosen decides the blade's nature: whether it will cut with precision, turn aside blaster fire, carry unstable force into a bind, or simply sing with balance and stability. Remember; the emitter is the final step that shapes your blade.
Link Blade Emitter Type Effect Description Crude phobium emitter Crude Phobium Emitter Heavier and more unwieldy than most disrupting emitters, but arguably far more effective. Damping emitter Damping Emitter Modified to release limited energy, making the blade non-lethal. Often used for training. Deflection emitter Deflection Emitter Specialized for generating a blade well-suited for deflecting blaster bolts. Favored by Form III users. Disrupting emitter Disrupting Emitter Creates an unsteady beam that wreaks havoc on nervous systems, but reduces wielder control. Fencing emitter Fencing Emitter Heightens usefulness for parrying and blade control, but less effective at blaster deflection. FFS – Adaptive Phase Emitter "Ghost Edge" Adaptive Phase Emitter Experimental emitter with multiple blade profiles and short destabilization bursts for cutting efficiency. FFS – Electrostatic / EMP Emitter "Sparkler" Electrostatic / EMP Emitter Adds a corona of electrical discharge and localized EMP bursts, effective vs. droids, shields, and cybernetics. FFS – Refined Deflection Emitter Refined Deflection Emitter Stabilized for superior blaster deflection and defensive combat, but weaker at cutting dense targets. FFS – Refined Disruptor Emitter Refined Disruptor Emitter Delivers controlled disruption shocks with reduced instability, effective in blade clashes but power-hungry. FFS – Refined Fencing Emitter Refined Fencing Emitter Fine-tuned for precision parries and ripostes, excelling in duels but poor at ranged deflection. FFS – Refined Phobium Emitter Refined Phobium Emitter Balances the raw power of phobium emitters with improved stability and maneuverability.

On Saber Types & Variants
The blade is near infinite in its possibility. Some designs are born of tradition, others of necessity, and still others of arrogance or desperation. Each form is a mirror of its maker's intent, a reflection not only of craftsmanship but of philosophy.
Different weapon shapes guide different ways of fighting. A long reach demands patience and timing. A short edge favors speed and proximity. A heavy blade asks for rooted strength, while a slender one rewards precision and control.
Most sabers you will encounter follow the traditional lines of the Order, but there are countless exotic variants. Be wary when you face a design you are unfamiliar with, for its wielder has likely built their style to exploit its strengths. To underestimate such intent is to hand them advantage.
Some sabers are simple to wield but difficult to master, while others are treacherous even in the hands of experts. Do not think that complexity makes a weapon superior, it merely shifts the lessons you must learn. The true question is always the same: does the form suit your spirit, your body, your purpose?
A wise duelist studies not only the weapon in their hand, but also the principles behind it: distance, balance, timing, pressure. These truths remain constant whether the blade is straight or curved, single or double, whip or pike. Know the principles, and the form will follow.
