Step into the Light [Jedi/LS Training]

The Galaxy was a changing place. The Sith and Imperials had brought darkness around. The lights of the Alliance and Republic had fallen. The Sith Empire had outlawed the Jedi, and while Coren could do so much, he knew that there were more that were needed. The Coalition and the Silver Order, and even the Confederacy had proven to be safe spaces for the Jedi and those who followed the Light. And Coren was doing what he could to get people around to safety, supporting the Coalition and Order, and the Confederacy in so much as they were not committing genocide.

Through the Jedi Academy Network, Coren had put up a call for those wishing to learn to unlock their full potential, or at least take the steps towards doing so. For the Master, it was to hopefully provide some semblance of Jedi who knew how to handle themselves in situations where Sith arrived. And could take the fight to them on nearly equal footing.

For him, it made sense. But you needed to know how to focus yourself, a Jedi didn’t go into a mindless rage, they stepped forward in a battlemind. No ignorance, no unbridled passion. They would focus on what needed to be done, how to turn the tide. Today he had a lesson planned, one that would help Jedi and those that called themselves supporter of the Light. Accessing the powers that the Force laid out for you was something completely different.

For Coren, it ended up on two scale, one the Force Light, the one that would repel darkness, push dark siders back, and even risk them losing their connection to the Force. That was one thing, but the rest? Coren was a Starchaser, he could navigate, and as he grew into his own as a fighter, the Force provided him with powers that were very reminiscent of the Kro-Var, but it wasn’t fire.

It was similar,but not quite.

Still, today, it was about teaching. Landing zones were made open, the trusted members of the JAN were given instructions to come in particular routes, and to minimize the number of ships coming to the Praxeum. One of dozens around the galaxy, Coren was doing his damnedest to protect this one. And training people to commune with the Light in the way he intended? He knew that it could only be people vouched by the JAN contacts.

Awaiting in one of the training rooms, Coren had his lightsaber on one hip, and stood in the center of the room, dark gray robes, and awaited the rest of the attendees.

Laertia, since becoming part of the Shattered Order had been eager for a chance to actually train alongside other Jedi and learn and maybe even teach. Laertia was mostly bereft of offensive Force abilities but she still had a few tricks to get by on. She was particularly good at Force Ionize but she knew that alone was not going to be enough in the long run. Not if she was going to complete Ursula's mission and find the Shrodinger Box. And certainly not if she was to find Ursula's killer.

Laertia walked into the chamber wearing her black armor, its brainwave regulators easing her headaches to bearable levels, but halving her strength in the Force. It was a tradeoff she had not yet figured out how to resolve. But it was a working answer.

She spotted [member="Coren Starchaser"] and happily strode to him, her heavy armor clanking on the ground.

"Hello, Mastuh Stahchasuh..." Laertia said politely, as clearly as she could speak. But it was not easy. She had never been able to figure out how to speak as others did, so she often tried to keep it short with others.

"Wut'll we bee doinz tuhdayz? Howw shudd I proceeddz?"

Eira Pechal was not a place that Auteme had ever heard of.

She hadn't quite gotten to this area of the galactic map in her studies, but there she was -- she'd packed her things on Kashyyyk and had headed out a few days ago. A change of scenery had been needed, she was starting to actually recognize the difference between the various wroshyr trees around the Jedi Temple. When she heard about a chance to learn more about the Force, and perhaps have a little teaching -- though not technically as a Jedi -- she was eager to take up the offer.

So there she was; travel pack on her back, quietly regretting her choice of attire. She'd thought the brown cloak she was wearing was thick enough, but it wasn't. She let out a shaky, misty breath, then quickly scuttled towards the entrance of the Praxeum.

Soon enough she arrived in the training room, having spotted a woman head inside just before she did. Auteme was early, of course, but she'd expected more people to be here -- stories of Coren Starchaser's exploits hadn't quite escaped her, but she felt she was more informed than most. He was a little shorter than she'd expected, but she was still nervous as she set foot inside the room. She didn't have a lightsaber. She didn't want one, but it was still a little scary. She moved to the left of the entrance, putting down her travel pack and taking a seat. The teenager would just watch for now, absorb whatever information she was able, and perhaps practice later -- she was sure the Jedi Master would focus more on the actual Jedi rather than some child who'd just shown up at the Praxeum today and could barely control her abilities.

To say that Cotan's teaching method was unconventional would be an understatement.

In fact, to liken anything he did to the conventional would be an unforgivably blatant lie.

When Coren asked him to come and help teach some younger Jedi, Cotan had accepted. However...Coren hadn't told him what he was supposed to teach. Or how to do it. So, Cotan, being the creative mastermind that he was, had already decided on how he would teach his first lesson. First, he'd staked out the training room that Coren was likely to use. One that was often used when others at the Praxeum worked on blast-deflect training, or other abilities, so it had a fairly high ceiling.

One small bit of work with the wiring, and there were a few dead lights up-top, leaving some good shadows.

And, one piece of fibercord and a grappling dart later, and Cotan was hanging, hidden in the darkness and concentrating hard on minimizing his Force presence, watching what was going on below.

First came Coren Starchaser.

Then, two others, who he didn't know. Students of some sort, he imagined; they didn't look like the group that was likely to do the most teaching today.

Hidden in his shadows, Cotan smiled. He'd wait for a larger body to show up, before starting his lesson for the group.

I can't wait to see the look on Coren's face.

He figured more would filter in, but part of his military training had him running on a tight time schedule. Hell, even when he was on leave, back during the heyday of the Alliance, he was always making sure things started on time. And with the Praxeum, he knew he could be a bit more flexible, but so as to not keep people waiting, he wanted to begin. Recognizing a few faces, some from the Shattered Order, that he himself would always call home, others from the Silvers, and more from around the galaxy.

One of the harder working members of the Shattered, [member="Laertia Io"] had spoken first. “Just a bit of training, helping everyone to connect to the Light a bit stronger.” He smiled and nodded over to the rest. [member=”Auteme Denko-Durren”] had stepped in, not one of the Praxeum, and he smiled. “Thank you all for coming.”

“What we’re going to work on here today is exactly what I just said, connecting to the Light, and letting it enhance your abilities, be it combat, or protective. Working with the Light can help keep you alive, and informed, knowing what is coming for you before even you know you’re in danger.”

He paused, looking between the pair in the front, and whoever else may be in attendance.

Auteme listened to the Jedi Master as he explained today's lesson. She'd initially wondered if anything he would be teaching might be useful to her -- staying alive and informed seemed like a useful skill to have. She decided that she would focus more on that than whatever Coren taught about combat. Her combat skills focused more on... escaping combat.

The teenager raised her hand as the Jedi paused, respectfully waiting a few moments before speaking. "What do you mean by 'Light'? Do you mean the light side of the Force, or the specific power Force Light?" It didn't even occur to the girl that anyone might not know what she was talking about. Spending time with the Jedi had caused her to adjust to rather competent and intelligent individuals.

As a member of the Jedi it wasn't hard to find a class, the orders were well known for teaching them, on expanding the horizons of their students and members. However, it wasn't often that a legend offered the chance to learn at his feet so to speak, to taste a little bit of the experience which the man had experienced over the years and years that he'd spent exploring the force, becoming one with the energy that united them. There was no way she wasn't coming to the lecture, although leaning against the wall in the corner might not exactly be seen as stepping out to the front of the class, it was just...how do you stand in the presence of your heroes without disappointing them?

Still, she couldn't hide in the shadows forever could she. A flick of a finger sent a chair skating across the room so she could drop into it, crossing her legs as she tilted her head to the side as another of hte students present quizzed the teacher. "You know that's a pretty good question."

Laertia nodded to [member="Coren Starchaser"], not wanting to take up too much more of his time, and also because this sounded like an actual good idea. Laertia knew she was on the side of light...she had re-learned how to heal herself and cleanse areas...but really being in touch with it beyond those factors was something she struggled at to this very day.

"Sure tingz! I'dd luv tuh knowz a littul morr aboutz dhat sorta stuff." Laertia said quietly though with great enthusiam her black armor could not express. She felt a mild tension headache start and vanish...small blessings for advanced tech. Laertia had forced herself to learn about the brain after her injuries but had been unable to make any breakthroughs until more recent advancements in medicine.

Sometimes though, she disliked being trapped essentially, and all the armor did was remind her how bad her injuries actually were sometimes. No matter how much she could soften the problem to actually function, she would not be able to operate as she did in her prime. It would mean having to take a more measured, cautious approach for now. So brushing up on her knowledge was indispensable.

Laertia then happened to look above for a split second while scanning the room and her armor's visual and targeting systems spotted what looked like a man hanging from the ceiling. She figured he was here because he was supposed to be and gave no other indication she had noticed [member="Cotan Sar'andor"].

Next a teenager Auteme Denko-Durren asked for specification and that was one of the things that confused Laertia as well when she arrived, a sentiment echoed by [member="Asaraa Vaashe"]. Laertia for her part chose not to speak any further and simply waited to see what would happen next. She was the bruiser, not the planner. It was what kept her from true mastery beyond the lightsaber.

Things were shaping to be rather interesting already...

Sure, there were people waiting on him, but he had to focus his life. He was working with the Jedi here, and sure, the ones around the galaxy, but he couldn’t always be the one keeping watch. He had others out there, Cotan, [member="Veiere Arenais"], the Heavenshields, all keeping watch on the galaxy. It was fine for him to train some Jedi in a few things. And with the way the war was coming? There were more who needed what he was going to teach. He was going to activate, or at least lead the ones here, to be able to activate the Light inside them.

And see what it could spark for the Jedi. He assumed it would be some low levels of Force Light, as that was definitely a muscle one needed to stretch and flex to develop.

He looked at the first to speak and nodded. “A little of both. The Sith pull their power from the dark side, and it manifests in…unique ways at times. The Jedi have their own abilities. And yes, we work to defend, and protect, but where I’ve been taught, sometimes an offensive is the best defense. Not something I’m going to teach you specifically. But you know what it means to be a Jedi, right?”

The Master’s tone was leaving it open, and his open palmed hand clearly indicated it was a statement for them to answer before he’d continue.

It was never good to be late for a lecture. Kat was late, very late. She had gotten up in plenty of time but her baby niece decided be a fun time to ruin the clothes she set aside for the morning. So, she had to find clean clothes and rush about the house, cleaning the mess that her niece made. Finally arriving later than she planned to the class, Kat stormed into the room, slightly out of breath from running as fast as she could. Looking around, she could see Asaraa so at least someone she knew was around. Others she was interested in getting to know, at least she figured she ought to be. Master Coren was a famous Jedi, quite the fighter against Sith and their allies. Be interesting to get an actual class with him.

Kat's hair was a bit of a mess, several strands of hair adorned her face and it was tied into a tall loose bun at the back. Her clothes were a simple tanktop and some baggy bottoms. Looking around, Kat inhaled deeply, "sorry I'm late." She said in a slightly sheepish tone as she took her place at the back of the class, trying to keep out of sight and quiet now.

Auteme gave a small nod to the pink-haired newcomer who seemed rather intent in... showing off her abilities in the Force. She was partly impressed, but also disappointed at how liberally some used their gifts. She understood there were bad people, and she understood there were arrogant people, but she had thought the Jedi were a little more conservative in their ways. Then again, the galaxy was a big place.

"I don't, actually." The teenager shrugged. "But please, begin the lesson." Auteme wasn't very satisfied with Coren's answer, but she decided she'd wait for him to actually start teaching. It was about time she actually began to use her gifts -- she wanted to help people. Though if it had been up to her she would've preferred to have the lesson on a planet with slightly less heavy gravity.

The room quickly filled up further with participants, and Coren began the lesson. Cotan grinned, although he felt mildly perturbed. One of the students had glanced up directly at where he was perched, something he didn't like. My surprise better not be ruined. He was already sweating from how much he was concentrating on suppressing his Force signature, alongside holding himself up high; if he went to all that work for nothing, he'd be displeased.

Not that there was much time left to bother with it.

"Lesson one!" his voice boomed from the rafters, before he dropped, landing next to Coren and putting his arm around the elder Jedi's shoulders. "Never let your guard down!" He faced everybody with a grin, clapping Coren hard on the shoulder. "Part of your calling as a Jedi is to protect others throughout the galaxy, so you should always remain open to your senses and the Force, ready to respond to a threat at a moment's notice!"
