Description: Nested in the vicinity of Mount Ison, the Star Tours Ski Resort on Hoth features a half-dozen expert-level (usually understood as double black diamond-level according to the First Order alpine ski trail classification, which follows closely the real-world system in use in North America) alpine ski trails and one ski lift for bringing patrons up to the top of the slopes. Due to the cold temperatures of the planet, while the short wait times at the base of the chairlift, patrons cannot usually stay long enough outdoors to go down more than one of the six slopes without having to seek heat back indoors, even after accounting for the short waiting times at the base of the chairlift. With nearly 2000m in vertical elevation, the Star Tours Ski Resort on Hoth promises a half-dozen of the most incredible ski slopes in the galaxy. At the base of the ski trails, a tauntaun pen is situated into an ice cavern which, like the above-ground skiing, only allows for short tauntaun rides for their patrons before they also have to return indoors for heat. Accommodations include a few dozen prefabricated chalets, each of which are large enough to house four patrons at one time, as well as all the normal accommodations of luxury hotels. Due to the temperatures, most of the staff were droids specifically outfitted for cold-climate operations.
History: When its original incarnation was built in 4 ABY, it was billed as sporting the most incredible slopes in the galaxy, and was in operation for a short amount of time only, given that the original Star Tours went bankrupt by 5 ABY, with its equipment being salvaged by the native Skels over the centuries when the New Republic failed to find buyers for the premises at the time. By 845 ABY, Star Tours returned, along with the First Order, while Operation Shatterpoint was underway, deploying a ski resort. Initially planned for a far larger number of ski trails, all of which would have been expert-level, Star Tours management only managed to attract enough patrons to operate a half-dozen such trails, due to the complaints from many patrons that the sheer cold rendered the visit hazardous. To this day it is remembered as one of the white elephants operated by Star Tours (and not just because of it being in a snowy locale).
