Description: The Stalwart-class was born from a need of a more balanced mid-weight capital ship. While the options were varied at either end of the scale, the Protectorate found itself with a very polar mid-tier. Ships were either designed as support or were designed to rush and attack the enemy. There was a need for something in the middle ground; something that could hold its own in a fight, but had more to offer than big guns.

Its primarily role is that of fleet coordination. Unlike many modern ships, the Stalwart's bridge is located deep within the hull. All external data is filtered through a number of Cestus Cybernetic J1 Droid Brains and projected onto various holographic tables and surfaces. This gives the Stalwart a high degree in predictive combat analysis. Reinforced com relays are likewise recessed into the hull for protection. While this limits the effective range on the ship's communications, this ensures that lucky strikes don't disable the ship's ability to coordinate with the fleet, which mitigates its low com range.

Next the ship has fifteen batteries of heavy ion cannons to deliver considerable punish to enemy shields. Supplemented with ten heavy dual mass driver cannons and the apparent frailty of the Stalwart can quickly surprise an unwary foe. Most of the guns are divided along the port and starboard sides, leaving the ship with minimal forward firing arcs, though it does have a number of batteries on the dorsal sections of the ship. As such, the ship is best used in broadside line formations. To the foolish who approach from the front, ten assault concussion missiles will make short work of all but the heaviest of ships.

Secondary to all this, the Stalwart also has four gravity well projectors allowing it to interdict wide areas of space. The four can target enemy ships independently, allowing for a greater range of coverage.
