Intent: To develop a more energy efficient and powerful ion drive for corvettes and frigates
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Aurora Industries
Model: Sossen-IV Ion Drive
Affiliation: Open-Market
Modularity: None
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Alusteel, ion engine components

Description:

With the acquisition of Nubia Star Drives, and the development of a better ion drive for capital-class ships, Aurora Industries went through their acquired catalog and decided to develop a newer version of the Sossen line of ion drives. With a focus on support ships in mind, the Sossen-IV Ion Drive would be the standard ion drive to be deployed on all company corvettes and frigates in the future.

Going off the goals for the CREVALD-5 ion drive, the Sossen-IV is designed to be more energy efficient than its predecessors and have a greater thrust power than the Sossen-3, giving a vessel equipped with the engine a slightly greater or standard speed at the cost of less energy from the reactor.

Will this submission be utilized as justification to bump a capital ship's speed above what is considered standard for its type? (i.e. an equipped corvette's speed being ~8 where a typical corvette sits at ~9 or 10)

Not particularly, if anything it would be like 8.75 at most if someone used it in a sub, but it would need a trade off. This iteration is mainly for energy efficiency than speed
