Absolutely elated and puffed up with pride, Haro couldn't help but laugh as he witnessed the adorable introduction and Leshanna's ecstatic reaction.
"Ha ha, yeah! Especially for you, actually. Since you love Bodie so much, I thought you'd enjoy having a little droid of your own, so I made this one to help you with your studies. It's got tons of cool features but there's some specific ones for alchemy and botany, since you've been getting into that more recently. I don't know much about that stuff myself so I got some ideas from some of the other students and, well, check this out!"
He proceeded to show her the little air-tight temperature controlled compartments tucked into the 'thorax' of the little spider-like droid—he was really proud of those—as well as how to activate some of the other tools and features. He explained that it could understand basic but that it could only return communication in
binary.
"C'mon then," he encouraged the little droid.
"Show her how you can fly."
Compartments near the tips of its four legs slid open and mini repulsor lifts powered on, allowing it to hover just above Leshanna's outstretched hands. It glided through the air, circling around its new friend and intended master before it came to a stop at eye level with her and bobbed as if satisfied with its inspection. Just then, Bodie buzzed out from the open cargo bin on Haro's speeder bike to join Leshanna's slightly larger droid in a playful arial dance. Haro loosed a bright mirthful laugh at the display before he found Leshanna's eyes again. Looking upon her, witnessing her unbridled joy, he swelled with the thrill of being the one responsible for that beautiful smile. The words he wanted—no,
needed to tell her suddenly welled up in him and, despite his nerves, he stepped closer to her and took her hands in his.
"The truth is... you've been on my mind a lot lately, Leshanna. Like, a lot," he began, a sheepish little smile dancing across his lips for a moment as he glanced down at their entwined hands where he made soft little circles on her skin with his thumb—a small way to vent his fidgety nervous energy. She was his dear friend, first and foremost, and he felt like he could tell her anything... well,
almost anything, but this was new territory for them. This felt almost as crazy as leaping off a building onto a flying gargoyle to save a beautiful girl, only now he risked not only his own heart but hers. His eyes met hers again, a solemnity settling over him as he continued.
"Especially what you said that night, during the drinking game with Naami..."
"I think..." He chuckled wryly at himself, at the pride he had to fight past to get to the admission.
"Heh, well, I've been scared too... to tell you the truth, even after you told me how you felt."
"Since the moment I saw you, and fought by your side in Ozzuk, I've always thought you were beautiful. But getting to know you has shown me that beauty goes so much deeper than the surface." He squeezed her hands, holding her gaze as if she was a lifeboat in a storm of vulnerability.
"You are brilliant, driven, powerful, super brave, and fiercely loyal, but above all that, you're kind. You have shown me nothing but kindness since I got here and... honestly, I don't know if I could've made it this far without that. So thank you." He brought her hands up to hold them against his chest as if to show that he meant every word, so she could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
"I don't know what the future will bring. My sponsor could pull me at any moment and take me half way across the galaxy, or you could get swept up into something way more important than hanging out with some shipyard mechanic." He flashed that roguish smile, lightening an otherwise heavy topic with the quip, but the weight of his feelings for her was clear.
"So... I don't really know what that means for us, but... I just want you to know... how much you mean to me, while I have the chance to tell you." He paused, before taking the final leap.
"I really like you, Lesh. Like, more than just a friend. I like making you happy. I like holding your hand." He squeezed her hands where he held them against his chest before he released them and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her in closer.
"I like being close to you."
His gaze dropped to her lips again.
"And, I think... I'd really like kissing you too."
