With the admittance of Makeb into the Silver Jedi Concord, Isotope-5 became readily available to Finley (at a price). The pilot began to experiment with the exotic mineral, knowing of its capabilities to improve the performance of starships. That was hardly the end of the potential of Isotope-5, as he found the substance could create interesting effects when used to generate force fields.
One effect he discovered that friction between objects could be nearly reduced to nil by encasing each object with a thin cocoon of energy that simply made objects slide against each other like smooth ice. People caught within these fields would have extreme difficulty moving or grasping objects without aide like mag locks. Even their armor could slip off without being properly secured! The effect would last until the user deactivated the grenade on a timer or reeled back with an included energy tether.
Finley applied this discovery to his creation of the Slider Grenades, creating a nonlethal crowd control item ideal for his more pacifist Jedi cohorts. On the flip side, such a "weapon" was one that most enemies would never expect.
Finally, the skating fan could make his own rink anywhere, no ice required.
