- The thinness of the blade makes it impossible to fully block vehicle-mounted lasers or turbolaser bolts, which are thicker than the blade.
- Some forms are ill-suited to this type of lightsaber weapon. Such things as static blocks and bindings are ill-suited to this style of blade. Dueling forms are needed to get proper use of it.
A Sith duelist's weapon which was adopted by the Saber Rakes of the Tapani sector, used by these boisterous nobles for over a thousand years. Original models are of superior quality, and are extremely rare. Copies are routinely produced in the Tapani sector at great cost by master artisans. These copies are of inferior quality to the original Sith models, but still quite capable of harming a foe. Certain Houses in the Tapani sector have access to Sith artifacts and secret Sith knowledge which may allow the creation of the foils at the same quality as the original Sith models.
Tapani nobles have had these lightfoils as part of their culture for so long, they even carry non-functioning hilts to official functions where no weapons are allowed. They see it as a status symbol and matter of cultural heritage.
Some unscrupulous Tapani nobles use energy sheathing to conceal the power source on their lightfoils and have secret activation mechanisms which are not obvious to anyone but the intended owner. This allows them to carry fully functioning lightfoils to official functions, as they can not be detected as actual weapons by scanners or casual inspection.
