Sith Crusades: Attack on Voss

Sorel sensed the darkness from a distance. Here on Voss, such a presence stood out like a very sore thumb. Usually, at any rate — for today was a different story. But here, in the trees, the darkness swallowed the light and so was apparent to even a Padawan travelling in the vicinity. And given Sorel was looking for such an aura, the discovery was simple although hardly welcome.

So she continued her measured side towards the dark-sider and as she approached, allowed her cloak to drop to the floor. Her sabers remained attached to her belt but she was connected to the Force and trusting in it for guidance.

Once she was close enough to speak, she heard the dark-sider utter words that told her she was correct to listen to the Force and come here. Whoever the dark-sider was, his aura was enough to tell her he was a seasoned Master and would be a formidable opponent.

“I cannot think of any place that is good to do battle. It is better you walk away now. But something tells me that isn’t go to happen.”

She was now standing, facing the Zabrak’s back, her hands by her sides. “And, for what it is worth, my name is Sorel.”

"A Jedi who wants to avoid combat? Not many of your order these days stick to it. Well, outside of the Silver, but even then you're more of soldiers than peacekeepers." He was mostly musing to himself. For ages the only Jedi he knew were just as much warmongers as they claimed the Sith were. Ah well. "We could talk about philosophy, as I'm sure many of our respective orders have, but I can feel how set in the Jedi way you are, and I've no doubt you can see how set I am in the Sith." Slowly he pulled his Sith Sword from it's sheath, doing his best to make the normally aggressive motion as passive as possible. He had come to show the Jedi the error of peace, but he had more respect for those so devoted such as [member="Sorel Crieff"] to mindlessly attack.

Instead he held the unique blade to the side, letting the blood red edge burst into life to give the weapon it's sinister aura. "When you are ready."

The Priestess looked on in quiet approval as the young Witch collected her last remaining wits and painstakingly picked herself up. The damage done was clear and Allara would need immediate attention, but for now the focus was on returning to Korangar which they did with no haste at all. Loxa walked with the girl, allowing her to use her strength, and guided her alongside her daughter back to the Skarsovi Ship. A light timbering groan greeted them as they stepped inside, Loxa leading her to an area where she could rest within the sling of branches and a bed of animal hide.

Korangar shuddered, waiting for Boethiah to join them before emitting a thunderous groan and a brilliant flash of vibrant green light. Within moments the ship pushed off from the lands and into the sky, making away for home.

Sorel listened to the dark-sider. Many Force sensitives enjoyed talking ahead of an encounter. Some just liked the sound of their own voice and others used Dun Möch. She was wary of the second and was prepared to put up with the former if it gave her even a chance to talk the opponent out of the fight. But as she listened, she realised this was not going to be a likely outcome.

“I am a Jedi, pure and simple. So we progress on that basis, with you upholding the ideals of the Sith.”

She remained calm as he drew what appeared to be a sword that was alive. But she was trained well enough to understand how foolhardy it was to focus on that too much. So she remained impassive and connected to the Force, her sabers still attached to her waist.

“I will never initiate a fight,” she replied to him, impassively. “But I will finish it.”

"So be it." With one last respectful bow of his head the Sith brought up his sword and let the Dark flow through his body. Blue eyes changed to a shade of red, and all expression drained from his face, leaving his lips in a thin line. He rushed forward with his blade held within his mechanical arm as his left came up, letting loose a quick jolt of electricity meant to put [member="Sorel Crieff"] off balance as he closed in. Once close, he would bring around his metal blade in a quick slash for the Jedi. As she said, she would not start the fight. But she would not be the one to finish it.

Sometimes there was a long debate before the duel started. Sometimes one party talked so much, the duel never happened. But Sorel knew that was never likely to happen here as the Force — or more specifically her gift of Farseeing told her.

One of her sabers snapped into the palm of her right hand as he rushed towards her — the blade activating to meet the electricity stream that was heading towards her.

And no sooner had her blade absorbed the energy then her second blade was in her left hand and she was deflecting the Sith’s sword. She was comfortable allowing him to take the lead, it would afford her time to study his style and preferences, for later in the duel.

As he walked blindly through the woods, he came across a clearing big enough to land a corvette in. He could wait for his shuttle there. Minutes passed, but no response came from the shuttle, and no shuttle flew overhead. Finally, he concluded that the shuttle had been shot down. Now he was trapped on a planet filled with Jedi who would hunt him down and take him prisoner. Great. Just great. Why did he have to get himself into this mess? First the Monogator gets shot down, and now his shuttle. He would likely be found if he were to stay here, so he slipped back into the surrounding trees.

As he wandered through, he wondered how he would get himself off this planet. Taking a local ship off would be too risky, he had no ships of his own, and Jedi were searching everywhere for him and other Sith. In fact, it may just be better to turn himself in and think of an escape plan then. He was no survivalist, and certainly couldn't survive for much long out in this wild enviroment without freezing. He hadn't expected to be shot down and miraclously land here either. So he pushed on, step by step.

As the light brightened from the two blades clashing a grin could be seen on the Sith's face for only a moment, a hint of his mindset. He lived for the thrill of a fight. He was bred and born for war. And where others found misery and hate, he found life and enjoyment. Even after loosing everything, Krest still smiled at the sound of battle. With [member="Sorel Crieff"] defaulting to his lead, a lead he was quite willing to accept, both of his hands wrapped around the hilt of his unique blade and he would step for her, thrusting the blade out to pierce her chest.

He would not stop there, instead continuing his assault with powerful yet random strikes aimed everywhere and nowhere, lashing out under the guise of mindless anger and fury. Yet with each strike his focus never wavered and his eyes remained zoned in on the Jedi before him. As the strikes continued, it would become all too clear that they weren't mindless, instead probing her defenses and reactions while seeming unpredictable.

Sometimes you sensed wanton abandon in an opponent — their desire to win was burning so bright they were prepared to risk all for a win. But if Sorel were to pin an emotion on this Sith, it was calculating but none the less brutal. It was as if he was born to duel — or at least bred to.

Which made this a challenging contest. Sorel did not enjoy fighting — but her mindset was such that she would die to protect the innocent, and the Younglings and Padawans under her care came under that category.

So it would prove an interesting battle — both had a will to win, but originating from entirely different places.

And as these thoughts flashed through her mind, she was acutely aware her defences were being probed and so she kept her control tight and did not seek to counter, but instead sought to give her opponent no opportunity to gain hope she was easy prey.

Simply probing was leading the Zabrak nowhere as he lashed out with his steel blade. [member="Sorel Crieff"] may not enjoy fighting, but she was as seasoned as him, perhaps more so. A quick change of tactics was needed. Once again he brought his sword down, aiming to force an overhead block. If he got what he was searching for his hand would drop down to release a blast of the Force to push the Jedi back.
