Minotaur
SIS Tactical Implant

Image Source: Ghost in the Shell
Intent: An implant for SIS personnel
Development Thread:
Manufacturer: SIS
Model: Acuity Implant
Affiliation: SIS
Modularity: Compatible with iBorg Aerek and Zerek sockets (one of each)
Production: Semi-Unique (5)
Material:
Desh-terenthium, noted for its very high tensile-strength-to-weight ratio. Will not cause neck problems.
Optional Taozin Nodule, preventing mild to moderate levels of Force interference (such as is experienced on the planet Dromund Kaas, or caused by Knight-level technometry/mechu-deru).
Strengths:
- Provides an interface to SIS and GADF battlespace management and tactical messaging systems.
- Compatible with iBorg nodes
- Well insulated against EMP, slicing and Force attacks
- Reasonably discrete, but found with a cursory inspection of the owner
- Heavy EMP strikes will disable the implants
- Requires heavy surgery and training to use
Description:
The Acuity node was designed by the SIS for its agents, pilots and soldiers to increase effectiveness in many operational roles. It provides a neural interface between the user and a range of systems that can be expanded using iBorg compatible nodes.
Without any expansion the Acuity can provide information to the User. This can be visual cues, most useful in Augmented Reality situation. It can be aural or it can be in a direction information feed into the awareness of the user (e.g. knowing that an infantry battalion is 10km east).
It comes preloaded with GADF and SIS interfaces. This has a 30km range and will interface with any nearby military devices to join the wider network. This enables the exchange of any form of message. Voice comms, text messages, videos. If a battlespace management system is in effect it will provide this information, for example AR identification of friendlies and capabilities. For example a soldier could look at an airborne X-Wing and identification information, heading and mission could all be displayed. Voice comms can be configured to sound as if coming from the direction of the source.
Other features:
- Knowledge cartridge compatibility. Note that knowledge cartridges contain information, not, say, muscle memory. This function will not give you 'I know Kung Fu' moments. Automatic virus-scan on knowledge cartridges. Can hold two at a time, but limited information can be stored internally.
- Cortical Datasplint: Permits secure internal storage that can be wiped in the event of capture.
- Various recording/review modes for images seen and sounds heard.
- Average of 20% improved long-term memory (for post-implant experiences).
- Average of 15% improved short-term memory.
- Short-range internal comlink/datalink (range 30km).
- Powerful, socket guards, internal firewalls and slicing countermeasures. Sufficient interference will automatically trip a hard break in the datalink's circuits, preventing all possibility of communication or slicing unless the user decides to reactivate the datalink.
- EMP/ion insulated. Sufficient impact (a strike from a capital-grade ion weapon or an EMP bomb, for example) will disable the Clarity, and may cause loss of data, but will not normally cause loss of cognitive function apart from the damage generally incurred by ion weapons. Handheld weapons are unlikely to disable the device unless directly targeting the interface itself.
- Force insulated. An optional internal Taozin Nodule, prevents mild to moderate levels of Force interference, such as is experienced on the planet Dromund Kaas, or caused by Knight-level technometry/mechu-deru. Caveat: Force-users have reported that this optional feature interferes with the precision of their Force senses. The location of the nodule also offers a mild degree of protection against Force manipulation of the head/shoulders region.
- No loss of personality. Caveat: living with a Clarity is a new kind of life, and your personality may grow in new directions. Some Users may become addicted and start to limit verbal communication. Switching off for a few hours a day is recommended.
- Waterproof.
