"Yeah, so do I. For Kellan, anyway".

Balun had been smart enough to ensure that by the time Kellan came of age, and should anything happen to him due to the risks associated with his line of work, a trust fund had been arranged and steadily increasing in financial value as the years went by. Already, the kid had enough to pay for a small fleet, but he wouldn't be able to touch any of it until he was in his twenties unless Balun made some changes.

"Hope you don't mind, but I've also put you and Makai down on the trust as well, just in case anything should happen. If I'm not around to be able to help my boy manage it, both of you have nothing but my full confidence," he informed Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell , glancing over at his father with a bit of an apprehensive eye. It was an awkward and grim thing to discuss, but it was the truth, and he wanted his father to be in the know.

"Moving back to the subject of my mother, though", he kept the conversation going, more than happy to remove them from the subject of their own mortality; "How exactly would you lure her out? Besides, if I do get access to all of her assets, that might do the trick too" he suggested, though shrugged his shoulders as if he were only making guesses at this point. That was the case with his mother; he never really knew anything.

"I think for a normal person touching the assets would lure someone out of hiding. However, last I ran into your mother she was a little...disheveled. Something tells me credits don't concern her, if that is your thought. Unless you're thinking she's monitoring the accounts to see if we're researching her."

Judah shrugged as well. Legs crossed as his attention flicked to the shockboxing match for a few moments. Two new opponents had moved onto the screen, ready to take their places and begin. Expression turned into a frown for a small moment as he was working through a few ideas in his head. One had crossed his mind before.

"We can put a bounty on her. Alive, naturally. Just for capture or location." Judah gave a long pause, looking concerned. "You know I would have taken care of your mother right? I still would now, if she would listen to me. Don't think I'm just a jerk or something out here. I'm not."

He still took care of Makai's mother. Despite what others thought - that he was a complete ass or something similar - he wasn't. Judah shouldn't have to clarify that with his son, but he felt it was better left said.

"Dad, you don't have to worry about that chit. You've given me more than anyone in this life. My Mother, for whatever reason, made her own choices. You're not responsible for her, anymore than I am," Balun spoke with a frown, not wishing for Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell to feel that, somehow, the actions of Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais reflected upon him as a parent, or an individual as a whole. "As far as I'm concerned, you've been the best thing to happen to me. Finding out I had a father out there, let alone Makai as well...-It changed my life in ways I'd only dreamed of. I never actually saw myself being a part of a family, but that's thanks to you".

Judah had been the one to discover Balun, his bloodwork a DNA match with his father's. With a little help from his own pocket and a few credits in the right direction, Judah had managed to contact Balun, and they had both finally been given the chance to get to know one another. An opportunity that they should have had long ago, but were denied that right by Balun's Mother.

"And she obviously thinks she can take care of herself, given she's chosen that kind of life. Being on the run from the Imperial Security Bureau, she's probably had to be in hiding for a good long while. They're the type to infiltrate other organisations just to have eyes and ears on the competition," Balun added, thinking about the Imperial connection with his Mother and what kind of life she might have been living as a consequence.

"No need to thank me, I haven't done much."

Which was true. Sure he had found Balun Arenais Dashiell Balun Arenais Dashiell about twenty years too late but perhaps better late than never. Judah did his best to be available for Balun - advice or just to listen, to try to find out the unlock of how one suddenly parents a grown child. Different if Balun would have grown up even in partial custody under his roof.

"I'm sure she can take care of herself - just saying I don't shirk my duties. Yet back to bringing her out of hiding, maybe not the bounty right now. Let's push harder for you to gain your claim to the family assets and see if she drags herself away from hunting the ISB. If not, if you want to talk to her, I'll track her down for you."

He nodded his agreement with the notion of securing his claim to the House Arenais Humanitarian Trust, not having much to add. Truthfully, he couldn't help but feel a little bothered by the fact that the conversation had turned back to him and away from his father's interest, not to mention that once again, his mother was the root of his problems.

"Sorry, I wanted to talk to you about how you've been, and we wound up talking about me and...Well, her", he apologised, voicing his regret. "You, Makai and them are all the family I need, Pop. You've done more for me than you recognise, but I guess selling yourself short is a Dashiell trait," he forced a smirk at Judah. That's exactly what he seemed to be doing in Balun's mind, refusing to acknowledge the influence he had been to his youngest son.

"I know you've got a lot weighing on you, but I want you to know that for me, the past is buried. I've got you guys now, I've let that chit go. There's no blame on your part; you can't know something you've never been made aware of, and I'm just happy to be here with you guys now. This is the family I've always wanted, so keep that in mind, okay?" he told his father, speaking sincerely in the hope that it might rest well with Judah.

"You've never really said it out loud, but I've often wondered. So, y'know, just in case..." Balun tried to justify what he had just said, as though he needed a reason or an excuse to care about his father's emotional state.

"Family you've always wanted? Poor kid."

Judah gave a self-deprecating chuckle. He was naturally guilty, wasn't sure if anyone in the universe who wouldn't be. Balun seemed to be fine with it though, and that's all that mattered right now. His guilt would stay but it was rarely had the forefront and typically only reared its head in situations such as this. Given Bale was a father now, Judah suspected he understood on some small level.

"I don't have too much going on. You want to travel out together and hit up the Mahina Shipyards on Mnemosyne? Apparently part of the asset package of yours. Could be useful for your business and it would be a real boys trip - me, you, Kellan. Given your age and how long your mother has been on the run...I mean, I doubt they are in use but I love bringing things like that back to life. All part of being a salvager."

"Please, our family's awesome. Makai and I are both successful; he has his family, and I've got Kellan. There isn't any real drama between us. What's not to love?" Balun challenged his father's sarcastic remark, sharing the humour in it as he grinned back at Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell ; "It sure as chit beats having no family at all".

Balun took the final drag from his cigarra before leaning forward to stub it out in the ashtray, just as his father mentioned the Mahina Shipyards on Mnemosyne, clearly piquing his interest. He glanced back at Judah with a slight incline of his head, "Mnemosyne?" He needed clarification, "That's where Iona Starchaser Iona Starchaser lives", he added as if to explain his sudden intrigue. Though the shipyards certainly did send his blood rushing through his veins, the coincidence couldn't be overlooked.

"House Arenais has some sort of connection to Mnemosyne, then?" he asked further, trying to see the link between his maternal heritage and the planet itself. They had chosen a curious location to set up business, and to find that said business dealt with starship construction, which was right up his alley; it all seemed too good to be true.

"So a girl you like lives there and suddenly you're interested?"

Judah chuckled lightly at his own comment. He knew Balun Arenais Dashiell Balun Arenais Dashiell had a larger interest than just his friend. There were questions regarding his mothers side of the family and its connections to Mnemosyne. He hadn't dug that deep into the genealogy of the family, just the assets. That was something left for Balun to either decide for himself. Given the attitude of potentially meeting his mother, the old salvager was sure he made the right call.

"Actually, I have no idea. Could be just for business. I do know there are some family holdings on Commenor. Estates and things, so if you're searching for family origins you might want to start there. Not sure where this family hails from...or if there is anyone left. Your Ma said no, but I can't exactly say I trust her judgement on this. Unless something tragic happened that I am highly unaware of."

Show & Tell

Balun chuckled softly in response to his fathers comment. Was he really that bad? Perhaps when he'd been sixteen, the whole Galaxy suddenly opened up to him, but not anymore. "Once upon a time, perhaps, but that ship's long since entered hyperspace, I'm afraid", he grinned back at Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell before polishing off the last remnants of bourbon from his glass, soon pouring himself another and raising the bottle in show to his father, offering to pour his old man another if he so wished.

"Commenor and Mnemosyne. Closer to the Coreworlds and the Empire," he thought aloud. It was difficult to know what the Coreworlds looked like since coming under Imperial Leadership, let alone if they still held any resemblance to a time that was before his life. "With the ISB in the mix, I wonder how much of Mom's stuff has been tampered with..." It was a worthwhile thought to consider, given that he didn't necessarily wish to draw the ISB's attention to himself and the Dashiells.

With the prospect of a coming trip, Balun didn't take long to decide it would be best for Kellan Dashiell to remain on Joiol with Vesha Daruun to care for and keep him busy in his father's absence. "When did you want to head out there, Pop?" he asked, thinking about the boy as well as his work concerning Jhaessa Prime's continued expansion. "I'll make arrangements for Kellan, and I've got people to step in for me back home where work's concerned", he explained; "Just let me know when it works for you, and we can make it happen", he concluded eagerly. The prospect of acquiring more assets certainly seemed positive, even if he wasn't exactly sure how he felt about the news that his Mom was around, somewhere out there in the Galaxy and close enough to make contact with his father.

Judah shook his head at the alcohol. He was perfectly fine. Having got back into drinking, the salvager was now more keen to observe hard set limits for himself. Two was the typical cap he stopped at these days. Empty lowball glass remained on the table, Judah listened to Balun Arenais Dashiell Balun Arenais Dashiell 's concerns about the planets being in the Core.

"If you're nervous I can go on my own. ISB, the Empire, the Core has little concern for me. I can always frame this as a salvage trip."

Business in these areas normally continued. He found little issues when he traveled for such a thing - only here and there. As far as he was concerned there were no economic restrictions heading towards the Core, only with the one Sith territory and the Blackwall.

"We can go any time. I don't have too much I need to attend to. Or that cannot be moved around on my schedule. Let's go out there and see what the 'verse has to offer."

Balun sat there for a moment, glass in his left hand and his right clumsily fishing out another cigarro from his packet on the couch at his side. His mind was on the potential that this Mahina Shipyard could bring for Dashiell Retrofit™, not to mention what other assets might become available to him.

The idea that he was last in the line of a prominent family, or at least wealthy enough to own their own starship manufacturing facility, was all a bit surreal. It was difficult not to question whether there might be someone out there to dispute his future claim, or someone lost to the family to suddenly appear and take issue with him. It seemed that the sooner he got a handle on these things, the better. And he was thankful he had his father to help guide him through the whole process.

"The sooner, the better, I think", Balun replied, soon lighting his second cigarro for the evening since his arrival; "Can we leave as early as tomorrow? I'll crash here and make the arrangements tonight. Vesha is here with Kellan, and there's no safer place for him to stay, so that's easily settled. The rest is just business administration until we return. I can have Tharan cover all that for me".

Tharan Zeren Kai was Balun's go-to man when it came to the business side of his life. Having his hands in too many pockets of personal interest, both as a Jedi and as an executive, meant that he needed to bring in a senior-level employee with the right head for leadership in his absence. Kai had been splendid thus far and had yet to disappoint, well worth the credits.

"Along the way, I'll do some more research into Mom's side of the family. See what I can drag up on the holonet...-There's bound to be some info out there on them, given Mnemosyne allowed them some sort of corporate success".

Forgoing something larger, Judah piloted his custom Santhe Challenger towards the moon of Mahina. Brows furrowed as he tiled his head, angling to see if there was a readout of life surrounding the shipyard. Oddly nothing large was showing up. No power readings of major note. No heat. No movement.

Judah was unfamiliar with the layout of the station. If someone was holed up deep below the ground then it would be totally off his readings. The Santhe Challenger was a luxury yacht, not a workhorse and could only perform so many miracles.

A little disappointing was the fact Kellan didn't join them. Judah understood the practicality - especially with Balun's mother acting crazed. It was only logical to himself that the woman was potentially hiding out in the shuttered shipyard. Perhaps a few levels down as not to draw the attention of surface scanners such as his own. Then again, he didn't consider Kris to be overly practical so perhaps he was thinking much too far ahead in the matter.

"Not looking very damaged from the surface. Might be able to get things up and running quickly once its transferred over. Here's hoping no pirates have taken over the lower floors....then again, how many are even coming out this way, beyond to go to that Jedi school you were telling me about."

Show & Tell
Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell

ch9gJU3.png

During the trip to Mnemosyne's lunar shipyards, Balun had spent a good deal of his time in the lounge of his father's luxury yacht, huddled over his datapad and seeking any sort of information he could find about the Arenais family. Much to his surprise, it hadn't been all that difficult to find historic news articles and Jedi documentation that had been declassified regarding the heads of the Family, Kay and Veiere Arenais.

Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell had been right in that they had connections to Commenor. Not only had Veiere been a Jedi Master, but the Lady Kay had been elected president of the world, and later they had enacted a Monarchy as their reach had extended across other planets and territories. This collaboration of governments became known as the Commenor Systems Alliance, and Veiere and Kay were its King and Queen, all the while Veiere had been aiding the Order of the Silver Jedi at the time.

Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais was the granddaughter of Veiere Arenais, daughter of Asaraa Vaashe Asaraa Vaashe and Caedyn Arenais. Balun's Mother had started with the Silver Jedi, but for reasons he couldn't discern, she had quickly moved to live with her Mother on Naboo during the height of the Confederacy. Back then, the CIS seemed to be different from the Confederation that the Galaxy knew of today. They had an Order of their own, the Knights Obsidian, and Kristyl had been a member of that group. A Force User, like the majority of the other members of House Arenais.

Many of the documents Balun read over seemed to involve Political and diplomatic movements of the Family. They seemed to all have sided with the democratic Governments and the Jedi, much to Balun's relief. However, he also read several holonews and debunked military reports concerning both Veiere and Caedyn Arenais participating in the war effort of that era against Sith-Imperial Forces. Veiere himself had reportedly been killed in battle by a Sith-Lord Darth Prazutis Darth Prazutis , while Caedyn Arenais had even stood face to face with Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex at one point.

It was difficult to piece things together, what with numerous articles varying in date, length and detail, but it occurred to Balun that perhaps this was part of the reason why the Imperial Security Bureau had been interested in Kristyl Arenais. An attempt to eliminate the line of House Arenais, lest it pose further threat to the Imperial War Machine that was the Empire and Sith Order.

Standing on the bridge alongside his father, Balun watched as they neared the still-distant verdant green world, closer to the moon of Mnemosyne than the world itself. It seemed busied with planetary traffic coming and going, yet Mahina Shipyards appeared to be dead by comparison. The young man's eyes glanced from the distant planet to the manufacturing facility itself, and his brows raised as he took in its scope and layout embedded within the moon's surface.

"Grist, look at the size of the place. It looks fit to build battlecruisers..." Balun exclaimed under a quiet breath, as if speaking too loud might suddenly risk his chances of securing the rights to the place.

His father had a point about potential activity within, though Balun never left home without his Lightsaber and K-16 Bryar Pistol. He had learned from a young age not to be caught unprepared. Arguably, younger than most for such a heavy lesson. 'I should have brought Chip with me', he thought to himself, though he knew his father's fear and distrust of droids, and had wanted to respect that.

"Pop, Dashiell Retrofit could make a killing with this place", Balun pointed out the obvious. Mahina Shipyards could considerably expand upon the current manufacturing line that the Retrofit Orbital Foundry was presently capable of. The shocking thing, though, was that this was but one of the assets Balun was potentially looking to inherit, and the possibility of others made his head spin.

"Entertaining the idea of making battle cruisers now?"

Judah wasn't keen on instruments of war being attached to the Dashiell name. Hospital ships, transports, defensive shields, support vessels all were fine. He didn't take any pleasure in having one of their ships firing on a planet due to the fact innocents were always included - it was never the idiots who started the wars who suffered.

Yet if that was the case it was a conversation for another time.

"So far it looks like an easy time getting this shipyard back online. I don't see any gaping holes. Nothing looks collapsed. If we are lucky maybe just new power and ventilation systems. Not sure how long this place has been abandoned. Only one way to really find out. We might need to grab envirosuits..."

Taking the controls of the vessel once again, Judah navigated them closer, zooming straight for the internal hanger that appeared to be built into the side of the asteroid. The Santhe Challenger glided smoothly, angling into the bay. The minute he crossed the threshold lights flickered on, illuminating a large, empty space.

"That wasn't odd at all."

Show & Tell
Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell

ch9gJU3.png

"Well, my first commission under Dashiell Retrofit was a Maritime Fleet for Lazerian IV", Balun pointed out with a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders. "It was a job at the time and my maiden entry into the world of shipbuilding, so I jumped on it back then. These days, though, I don't know. Battlecruisers are a bit too overkill for my liking". He wasn't someone who considered himself a profiteer of war, yet the Fleet for Lazerian IV had been the first of its kind, and he had offered them security in their construction. Despite this, he wasn't so naive as to think that they might never be used against other worlds.

"I suppose that's around the time when the company became less about retrofitting old tech and more focused on creating new kinds. I really ought to change the name, but that would also feel a little sacriligious," he chuckled softly as he watched the entrance to the Mahina Shipyards hangar swallow the bridge of the Yacht, Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell leading them in to gently settle down upon the floor of the vast facility.

Glancing at his father, he couldn't help but smile at the comment on their smooth entry to the lunar station. It was true in that they knew nothing of what to expect upon their arrival. For a time, Balun had even considered the possibility of Mahina Shipyards still being manned, but it had probably been a few decades, at least, since it was last operational. Standing foot in the place sort of felt a bit like an ode to a past he had never lived. A piece of his heritage that Balun knew so little about.

"I suppose it's time to check this place out in person. Might pay to grab a blaster on our way out, Dad, you never know," he suggested will padding the leather holster of his Bryar Pistol. Given that the Hangar had lit up like a lifeday tree upon their entry, power was still running through the facility. It was difficult to know if that was due to negligence or an unsanctioned occupation force. Either way, it didn't bring Balun any comfort.

"I guess if chit goes south, you might finally have a reason to appreciate my training" he grinned warily, offering Judah one final glance over his shoulder as he started to make his way from the Hangar towards the loading bay of the ship where they could depart and taste the stale air of the old shipyard.

"Then keep the name."

Meandering down the corridors after Balun Arenais Dashiell Balun Arenais Dashiell , Judah picked up an old A280 blaster rifle. More cumbersome than a hold out blaster rifle yet if there was something large in the hangar that needed stopping, the rifle would do it. Gaze flicked to the environmental readouts, looking stable with good oxygen supply. A positive sign.

At this point he was wondering if the station had been set to some type of automatic mode after being abandoned. Kind of a last person out hit this switch type of deal. Wouldn't be the first time he saw such a thing. Decades of restoring space stations and there were always a few people intended to return back to. Often times things got in the way and they couldn't - collapsing government and business usually the top cause.

"Funny, I was thinking if sh!t hits the fan you could see my skills in action."

Brushing past Balun, Judah went first, no way he was letting his son go first. Not as long as he was around.

Boots carefully touching the decking, moving silently as possible. Footfalls still echoed across the space, massively empty. Not even a speck of equipment was left. Carefully he turned himself in a small circle, blaster rifle held at the ready.

"To be fair, if we are to be attacked they will wait until we are further away from the vessel. At least, I know I would. Alright, I'm going to make my way to that main entrance. A good place to start. I've got my hydrospanner with me. Doors might be locked."

Show & Tell

ch9gJU3.png

"You and I getting into a scrap together would certainly be a first", Balun chuckled softly as he followed his father down the landing ramp of the Yacht and out into the sterile air of the great Hangar. So far so good, the lack of visible life within the area offered Balun the time to smile to himself, not having let it escape him that his Father had taken up the lead, almost in a protective manner.

Balun didn't argue, and it felt good to see his father in such a light. He had never had any doubts about Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell 's care for him and Makai, but it wasn't often that they both found themselves in this sort of situation, where danger could be around any corner. Furthermore, Judah had told him long ago that he had once been in the military, a fighter pilot at one point and had experience in the field the likes of which Balun had never seen his Dad put into play. It was a curious thought, but he quietly hoped that wouldn't change and they wouldn't be forced to fight for their lives today.

"No other ships on this deck, but this can't be the only hangar", Balun suggested as they gradually moved further away from the Yacht, and in the direction of the Hangar entrance leading deeper into the facility. His left hand drifted down to the blaster holster at his hip, flicking the catch that held the pistol securely in place, in case he needed to draw the firearm quickly. His Lightsaber remained locked in place against the magnetic plate of his utility belt, though it wouldn't take much to change that.

Reaching the door, Balun stepped to one side, stopping beside the terminal and quickly running his hand across it. Nothing happened; the doors remained closed. "Guess you're up", he grinned back at his pops. Better to make use of the hydrospanner rather than cutting it open with his lightsaber. After all, they'd only have to repair the damage once they had secured the station.

"Yeah, I'm fairly certain there's another hangar. To be fair I did not study the plans for this place. Didn't seem to be my place to do so."

Judah would study them if asked. He was certain he would once they got in and started making plans Balun would ask for his opinion. So far, so good though. Just use intuition to poke their way around. The entire purpose of this was to view the status of the station and go from there. Head craned up looking to see if anything was amiss, so far nothing.

Looking at the panel, he strapped the rifle across his back before pulling out the hydrospanner. He used one end to pry the panel up, revealing the wiring underneath.

"If I can't this we will melt it open with your lightsaber. Prefer not to though."

Keeping the hydrospanner in one hand, he used his other to start tracing the wires. Brows furrowed as he looked over the panels innards, debating on which one to pull. Tracing one back, he found what was suspected the power supply to keeping the door locked and secure. He quickly pulled it, disconnecting it from the power.

Nothing happened.

"Hold on."

Stepping back, he used his good shoulder to push into the door, manually moving it aside. It let out a loud grinding noise, resisting.

"Track needs lubricant. Hasn't opened in awhile I feel."
