Shadows of the Past

In the Darkness there is Truth
[member="Mirien Valdier"]

Naamah was quiet for most of it as her former superior slash owner spoke. There was only one instance when she suddenly spoke up, that beign when Mirien talked about how personal it was for her and what Madeline had done to her. "You never saw the camps from the inside," Naamah said very coldly.

She left it at that - it would not do for Mirien to suddenly choke her to death or crush her lungs in a rage after all - but the point was made. Naamah had never been a stable or kind woman - and she was not inclined to sympathy her.

Regardless she gave Mirien a curt nod after she had finished. The plan was solid...her former superior...no, owner was good at her job. She could almost...no, she did not trust her. But then trust was not needed. They had a mutual enemy they both hated and that was all there was to it. Apparently there two Naamahs: One was playful, slightly nutty and tried to ramble a lot. The other was businesslike, cold and terribly laconic.

"Seems solid. Atrisia gets a far less foreign guests than it used to, but the festival is still a big occasion. There will be massive parades across Jar'kai to glorify the queen. Schoolchildren goose-stepping in uniforms with Maddy badges. I have a way to get us in rather close," her tone was impassive, a strong contrast to before, but then she grimaced in pain as her features twisted and shifted under the pressure of the shapeshifting process. The reptilian scales vanished, so did the snake-like eyes, though they would look as cold as ever, hair was regrown and the features of an Atrisian woman took shape. A woman who was undoubtedly beautiful if not for her coldness.

The woman in question was a replication of Madeline Kahoshi. "Guess it would be awkward if we tried to get to the some place at the same time, but still workable for a certain duration of time. Certainly to get us into her lab later. I remember a security code from my escape there. Same with the layout. I remember everything." This was factual information, but more than that. As Mirien would probably know from Naamah's file the girl had eidetic memory. This was obviously very useful...but it also meant she recalled every moment of torment in vivid detail. "If any tech blueprints get stolen...I want copies." This was probably not up for negotiation.

Anemone Nivalis

M.D., Expert Trauma Surgeon
The grasp around her shoulder admittedly caught her off guard. That aside, as clingy as she always was, Anemone couldn't help but allow her body to lean into Dells', sniffling slightly as her own body pressed against that of the red head. Her eyes closed as she stood there, time seemingly standing still. For that moment, it was as if reliving her past. She could still remember the day she first became the woman's subordinate. The warmth she felt internally as they grew close was equivalent to the warmth she felt as the two stood close now.

"I know..but I just had to tell Tegs...I mean, this is Siobhan. She's always doing this kind of stuff, but it never once dawned on me that she could actually.. I never thought she'd really end up like this. I knew she could, but... the idea of any of us being like that. I just never thought it could really happen..." Her eyes opened, looking up to her sister, as she'd done so many time in the past. "What do we do now?..."

[member="Delila Castillon"]

While all this took place at the hospital, [member="Delila Castillon"] got to show that she could be comforting and considerate as well, and [member="Mirien Valdier"] was visited by a ghost from her past, Kaida Taldir was mostly oblivious to everything else and still indulging in all sorts of icy goodness. One might ask why this writer is posting such a scene, which is not really related to the main plot. Well, they wanted to use their frost elf to increase her post count...oh, wait, that's not the reason! It has something to do with showing what other people are doing. Besides, this writer loves explosions and thought that wrecking things through the use of cryomancy would be fun.

Regardless, now that we have written enough 4th wall breaking lines we shall get to what Kaida was actually doing. The last time we left her she had conjured up a very strong and thick wall of ice inside one of the many training rooms in the Angelii barracks. Since the Angelii were all elementalists of one form or the other, presumably this sort of thing happened a lot and so the clean-up crew would know better than to complain. Being a cleaner employed by the Angelii must really suck, when one thinks about it.

Anyhow, two battle droids, specialised constructs created to serve as training opponents for the Eldorai warriors, were bombarding the ice barrier. Salvoes of blaster bolts streaked through the air and peppered against the barrier, blasts of heat that sought to overcome the cold she had woven across the chamber as if it were a web and she the spider inside it. The crimson beams that lanced through the air were joined by bursts of flame that leapt out of the wrist-worn flamethrowers of the automatons, blasts of scalding, scorching heat that splashed against the shield. Strain was evident upon the features of Kaida, even though they were obscured by the ice that coated her body like a second suit of armour, as she sought to maintain the wall, strengthening it where it seemed it might weaken, using her Sciia to keep the temperature down. Obviously driving her own body heat down to such an extent and keeping the wall up was not the most practical thing, but it was about testing limits.

The wall was strong and, as the cold spread across the room, which would soon feel like it was a place of ice and cold, the droids would find it more difficult to move, with the ground turning wet and slippery. But they were not equipped with toy blasters, and Kaida had been maintaining the barrier for quite a while. The burning heat could not be withstood forever and so, as she grimaced, the barrier began to weaken. It could not be torn down by their weapons, but the crystallised ice began to weaken and turn back into liquid form. Bit by bit bricks of the wall succumbed and fell, as the ice melted like snow before a hot sun amidst the blasts of flame that swept across the breaking wall, seeking to engulf Kaida and swallow her up in an ocean of fire.

The frost elf let out a long, cold breath as she sought to gather herself. Flames whipped at her body, though the water around her did its part to make them die down. Icy blue eyes beheld the two droids as they levelled their guns at her and time seemed to slow. Then suddenly the water rose and was sent crashing towards them like a small tidal wave. After all, if she could manipulate snow and ice, then by the same token she had command over water. Such was the onslaught that one robot was caught full-on and sent flying, crashing onto the hard, cold ground before being drowned. The electronic systems of a machine did not go well against the wave, especially when she was manipulating its temperature even lower, and sparks flew as some vital circuits died. However, the other droid was more quickly to react and somersaulted, leaping into the air and pushing itself off the wall so that it might jump straight at the cryomancer. To give her something to deal with it tossed two grenades at her.

One a sonic grenade, the other an EMP one. Instinctively Kaida sought to deflect them with a push of telekinesis, but the explosive balls were set to detonate on impact. She heard a loud, seemingly deafening bang as the sonic detonated, breaking her concentration and making her ears ring, though her shield kept the worst of it out. More serious was the EMP grenade, given that she was, well, rather wet...just not in that way! There was a bit of a distance between her and the detonation, but she was still in the radius and so she was shaking badly and violently as electrical sparks struck her, surging through her body. She bit down her tongue as the electrical bolts slashing at her made her feel like she was being hit by a bolt of lightning.

Hilariously enough hitting opponents with ice and then having electromancers give them a good frying was a favourite tactic of hers. So perhaps being on the receiving end was a learning experience for her. She fell to the ground, dazed and stunned for a few moments before she managed to regain her equilibrium. The droid charged at her, swinging an electro-staff and seeking to give her a good burn. Kaida managed to dodge and roll before the staff made polite conversation with her face, a surge of the Force breaking her own ice coating in the process to ensure better mobility. As the droid came at her again with its weapon she danced across the room, seemingly being driven closer to the wall and thus cornered. What she was doing was something else entirely...making the ground turn even more slippery and wet...and thus more difficult for the droid to walk on. In order to throw her off-balance the machine suddenly activated its wrist-worn blaster and fired, though obviously this would be a stun bolt. It hit her in the arm, deadening it so that it felt numb and she grit her teeth, then let loose a blast of telekinesis that hit the machine as it sought to bring its staff down.

The droid was thrown back and landed in a pile of snow and water. This...did not agree with the staff and as sparks flew, the end result was that the droid was grilled and struck by its own electro-staff, the surges of electricity wrecking ever more havoc due to the water goodness around it. Kaida finally put the machine out of commission by calling a blaster into her hand and firing a round into it.

The answer of course to Siobhan’s problem was simple: Stop death charging Sith!
However, Tegaea was not inclined either to be so blunt or to push that particular agenda at the moment. However, she was resolved to do some tactfully, in private, very soon.
“I know, love, it’s alright, I’m not angry with you….”

As for the assassination plans being discussed nearby, Tegaea hardly approved of her planet being used for such plots. However, she wanted Mirien on the team, and so long as no vengeful Space Japanese showed up and Miri didn’t expect her or Sio to take part, she had no issues.

[member="Tegaea Alcori"]

This writer could deliver a long rant about how Siobhan had little use beyond death charging and that, if she just stayed on Kaeshana, she would probably do little more than induldge in hedonistic debauchery. That said, the image of Siobhan losing her 'combat prowess' by spending all her time as a decadent aristo and then getting taken down by a common Sith is somewhat amusing to this writer.

In any case, back to the actual plot. Unfortunately the threat of losing one's mind made people, well, afraid of it. This also induced clingyness, and even normal Siobhan was a very clingy woman. "I can't take losing my mind...I just can't. I've got only myself to blame I guess. If...I keep losing more, you'll stay with me? I don't want to be a burden." She averted her gaze from her wife and turned away slightly, ashamed it seemed. "I'm afraid," she said quietly almost in a whisper.

“Of course I’ll stay with you, Siobhan. I’m not a monster who would kick out her wife for no reason. It’s alright, we’ll find a way through this, like everything else.” She kissed Siobhan and held her close, letting the other woman know she was there for her.

Oh what Tegaea didn't know, wouldn't kill her, or so the saying went. Though the former Inquisitor had no intentions of involving either Tegs or Sio in her plans for ridding the galaxy of Empress Kahoshi. No, this was something to be done by Mirien, for Mirien, leaving Firemane and Kaeshana completely out of it.

Mirien nodded, "Nor do you know the whole of what led me to leave." In fact few to this day exactly what reasoning she had for taking exile and walking away from everything that mattered to her. But that was the tale for another time.

"Yes, I figured after the purge, Atrisia's relevance in the galaxy as a whole has gone down significantly. But that aside, there will be so many distractions with the festival going on. Slipping such a task by them will be much less complex in the coming weeks." She wrinkled up her nose at the thought of the evil queen, "That witch will get what she deserves. The woman thinks she's untouchable."

Mirien seemed a bit shocked as Naamah began to transform, even more so as the shapeshifter took on the form of Madeline Kahoshi herself. "Well now, that's handy, I must admit." The usefulness of being able to become the Empress, certainly had it's advantages. "Between her, and the code, we should be able to gather anything and everything we wish."

A thought did come to her, on that note. There was a set of files, her original files that had been kept by Emperor Kahoshi, and it was reasonable to assume that those files still existed. Right now, she very much wanted get her hands on that part of her life. Chances are, it'd hold a clue or two to her past. "There is a singular set of files I wish to obtain as well while we are there. The Empire stole my life from me, and hid a great deal of my past to keep me as a pet. I want those files. And no doubt Madeline would have access to such."

The she nodded a final time, "Of course, we'll see to it that you get copies of any tech you desire that we manage to steal while we are there."

Delila wasn't going to get into specifics that such things happened all the time in war zones or battle. Nivalis knew well enough the statistics and consequences to such a life by first hand experience. Putting a hand on Nivalis' back, Delila made sure to walk down the hall a bit. Their voices could carry and such a conversation should not be overhead by Siobhan and Tegaea. At the end of the hall was a floor-to-ceiling window of Kaeshana. Delila stared out as she spoke, keeping her words measured.

"Now we must be there for Siobhan and Tegaea.....as much as they allow anyways. Your job will be to find out more about her condition. In reality, if she grows worse or this progresses, Siobhan will need 'round the clock care. She loses so much memory that she starts wandering off or sets a fire on the stove it will certainly prove to be problematic."

"Hopefully the two have discussed practical medical care plans while Siobhan still had her wits about her." Delila paused for a long time, struggling for the right words. "As for myself....I will do my best to make sure operations continue to run smoothly in the Etti IV and Levantine Sanctum side of the Firemane business. It is the only thing I am useful for in this situation"

.....and even then sometimes I wonder.

Siobhan leaned against her wife, absorbing what comfort she could take and visibly relaxing for a moment, before she pulled. "You're a better wife than I deserve. Thank you," she said softly. "I think I'd like something to eat and some water. " Eyes briefly roamed to see an redhead ([member="Delila Castillon"]) and a woman dressed like a doctor ([member="Anemone Nivalis"]), both very attractive and apparently friends, walk down the hall. They were apparently talking, though Siobhan did not overhear their conversation.

They seemed very familiar to her. She had the strong feeling that they were friends of hers and she should know their names, but...she just could not place them. Her head throbbed painfully. "Tegs...who are they again? I feel like I should know them," she said earnestly. "The redhead...she fought with me at Roche. She commanded the 73rd...we held off a Sith division. The other...she's a doctor, a very good one. Replaced the redhead's liver after it got torn out by Reavers, should have gotten an award for that. I just can't...remember the names."

Chaotic Evil Naamah Aesham getting access to Madeline's shiny toys would probably not go well. Of course, before that could happen they would have to successfully infiltrate paranoid, totalitarian Atrisia, successfully murder the Empress and steal all the shiny stuff. There were plenty of things that could go wrong in this scenario.

Anyhow Naamah smirked slighly. She had clearly taken note of Mirien's surprise at her transformation and seemed to be feeling smug about it. As for the singular file, Mirien could obviously have that. "Good. Then we're agreed," she said. For a moment her eyes flashed a venomous, predatory yellow before Madeline's natural blue returned. Come to think of it, for some reason Naamah found herself wondering why the queen had blue eyes in the first place. It was not exactly common among Space Japanese.

Abruptly, without warning, she suddenly pulled Mirien close and kissed her. "The queen will die. Shame we probably won't have the time to make her suffer like she should. I imagine your bosses will be wanting you back soon." Kerrigan had not looked well when Naamah visited her hospital room disguised as a nurse. Not that the Clawdite cared, but she figured Mirien did.

"Excellent." Mirien agreed, now with a plan in place, it was merely time to count down the days until they could be rid of the Atrisian queen and life would go on.

Drawn into the kiss, Mirien resisted for a moment, a little creeped out by the idea of kissing Madeline. It was such a strange thing. Pulling away she could only stare blankly back at Naamah, and for a moment the brunette couldn't speak a word. When her mind finally started to function again, albeit a bit flustered, she sighed, and shook her head, "Yes, I have business I need to attend to." She said softly.

Reaching into her pocket she withdrew a card and quickly scribbled down a series of numbers upon it. "Private and secure com channel. Contact me in seven days and we'll set everything in motion then."

With that spoken, Mirien turned and headed out the door, on her way back to the hospital. With some luck she'd catch Tegaea and be able to speak with the woman about Siobhan's condition. Once more she typed a simple message out and sent it to [member="Tegaea Alcori"], On my back to the hospital. She left it at that. Everything else could be explained in person.

Naamah looked very smug at the effect her transformation and action had clearly had on Mirien. "Admit it, you sort of wanted to bend the queen over and give her a good screwing," she purred. Yes, apparently she was being in an unstable mood again. She licked across her lips with her tongue. Her former owner was a good kisser.

No, assuming the shape of the woman who had wiped out your people, subjected you to horrific torture and then pulling your former superior slash owner into a liplock was not creepy at all. Well, creepy was a fitting adjective to describe Naamah with. Regardless she took the card and gave Mirien a nod. "Sounds good. And don't worry...I'll assume a form you're comfortable with. Give Kerrigan my love," she said as she looked over the card and then pocketed it. For her part Naamah had her own preparations to attend to. Their vengeance would be...bloody and beautiful.

Mirien stopped, turned back and lofted a brow. "You really think that I'd want to spread my legs for a woman who seeks to have my life ended? Who seeks to have all force users ended? If so, you are seriously deluded." Talk about stating the obvious.

Turning back out the door, she gave a small shudder as the woman mentioned Kerrigan. Far too creepy was the situation, but it was a means to an end. Even she wasn't strong enough to take on the Atrisian Empress alone. No, she needed help. And right now, that help was going to involve one nutbag, who was more than a few screws short of a droid.

With that Mirien was gone, and on her way back to the hospital. Once more she went through that strange series of emotions as she entered the sterile building, and fought against the itchiness of her prosthetic that she suddenly was hyper-aware of. It didn't take long for her to arrive back at Siobhan's door, once more knocking lightly as she opened the door a crack, truly not wanting to interrupt. "Mrs. Alcori," She spoke, overly formal considering her extracurricular activities with both Siobhan and Tegaea, none the less, she felt it required. "I don't want to disturb either of you, I know the timing is not good, but I do need to speak with you ... whenever you have a moment."

For her part Naamah did not stay long in the run-down, squalid motel but likewise departed, though she let a reasonable amount of time pass before she left as well. Both women leaving so soon might appear just a bit suspicious. Not that anyone was specifically hunting for them, but nonetheless.

Needless to say she did keep the guise of Madeline Kahoshi, but rather once again adopted the face of the red Twi'lek from earlier. Plenty of those around in the Visitors' Quarter after all and no one was bound to look for. Dressed all in dark leather and giving off serious don't mess with me vibes, no one was bound to make the connection. Getting Mirien riled up had had been risky...but fun. Soon, very soon, Madeline would be dead. Naamah would have preferred making her suffer, driving her to the brink of death, giving her the false hope of getting release, only to quash them and begin the whole experience again, but you did not always get what you wanted. Even if your perception of reality was at times strongly at odds with those of most people.

Through victory, my chains are broken. As little desire as she had to go running to the One Sith like seemed so in vogue these days, not everything of the Sith Code was a load of crap. Victory would free her...from the Atrisian Empire that had used her, from the queen who had put her through brutal torture - repaying that in kind would be delicious. Also from Mirien, as a matter of fact. Yes, dear. Maddy took everything away from you...including the part where you got to have power over us all, while working for a nation that hated you. That was very nasty of her. Is that the part you miss most? And what would your new friends think? Well, I doubt Kerrigan would care, the thought coursed through her mind as she vanished into the shadows that had long been like an old friend to her.

The Force shall free me. Not yet...but all in good time. Outside there was the strong breeze of a cold wind, rain was falling and so she pulled on her hood, walking quickly. Merry laughter could be heard coming out of a bar, with things soon taking a turn as a fight between patrons broke out, with one human being unceremoniously tossed out and landing upon the pavement with a loud thud, blood seeping out of an open wound in his skull. Naamah was quick enough to dodge so that the poor guy did not crash into her. Further aaway a Zeltron courtesan was leading a client down an alleyway. Naamah walked on and disappeared into a side-alley.

“The redhead is [member="Delila Castillon"], the doctor is [member="Anemone Nivalis"]. They’re both members of our team now. Delila heads up one of Firemane’s operations…our company…on a planet on the far rim. Anemone is one of our expert doctors. Don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll come back to you soon!” Tegaea said with far more conviction than she felt.

She wondered if she could reassemble the team of Force healers who had saved her wife after the battle with Shadow. Or perhaps the Jedi Master Phylis Alince might be able to help? Coryth Elaris was on Kaeshana too. The two of them could definitely do something…Tegaea had to believe this.

“Tell me the very last thing you remember…and I’ll fill you in as well as I can about the time after that…and your encounter with Shadow.”

"Miri...I'll see you quickly now, but then I've got to discuss something important with Siobhan." She rose and headed over to Mirien to hear her news quickly so she could get back to Siobhan.

[member="Tegaea Alcori"], [member="Mirien Valdier"]

Siobhan nodded as her wife mentioned [member="Delila Castillon"] and [member="Anemone Nivalis"]. The named did ring a bell...for a moment. It was like there was a door opening, but when she tried to walk through it was abruptly slammed shut. She tried to absorb some of the conviction her wife was projecting. At her further words she frowned. "We were...supposed to attend a briefing for Gehenna. Troop deployment and such, intelligence on Scutarii moves. Anya has the latest statistics on the production of the Typhoon-class," she said, looking around the hospital room with an expression upon her face that gave the impression that she had just realised where she was.

"No, this is not our summer house on Naboo." At this moment she sounded very much like a lost girl. She wanted to reach out and cling to Tegaea but then a new presence entered the room. Miri, who was that again? Was her wife meeting Miranda Lawson from Mass Age? No, that was ridiculous. Taking a deep breath Siobhan sat down on the edge of the bed, feeling very weak and lost.

Mirien sighed softly as Tegaea approached, "Look, uh... There is a chance I may be able to help the situation that Siobhan is in." Glancing back over to the brunette, a mix of worry and pain filled her eyes. It hurt her so much to see anyone going through what she had, and probably more so, because she'd been forgotten in the process.

"I was taught a while ago, how to erase memories, as well as take knowledge and memories, as well as how to repair damaged memories." Slowly she pushed her hair back from her eyes, looking down at the ground for a moment. "I may be able to help restore some of Siobhan's memories." A sigh followed, "But as for how much? And what I can give back to her? I can't make any promises. In fact, not knowing what exactly was done to her, I can't even promise it would work at all. The only thing I can do is try."

A part of her worried the outcome might be less than ideal, but she couldn't stand by and have the ability she did, and say nothing. Not when she had the chance to give Siobhan back some if not all of her memories. It was the very thing she desperately wished she could have done to her own mind, and restore back her memories, but that was not in Mirien's cards.

"I just don't want you to get your hopes up that this will be some miracle cure. Not when I have no idea if it will work on her at all." She whispered softly, not really wanting the conversation overheard by Kerrigan or anyone else for that matter. Another sad sigh followed, "It's up to you if you want me to do it or not. I can't force it on her, or you for that matter. Just let me know if it's an option you want to explore."

Tegaea hesitated slightly. It wasn't that she distrusted Mirien, because even know she'd only known her briefly, Siobhan had known her longer and clearly trusted her.
Rather, Tegaea's problem was that Mirien was asking to do complex, dangerous and personal things to Siobhan...who wouldn't remember her. Asking Siobhan to allow a woman she had never met, at least in her memories, to do such a thing was a lot to ask.
Ever present was the danger that it might make things worse, or even critically worse.

Still, could it be any more dangerous than brain surgery?

But there were some things which had to be filled in first. Turning back to her wife she gestured to Miri.
"Mirien here would like to try and use the Force to restore some of your memories. Now, I know you don't remember her, but she had your trust before, you were the one who brought her here to Kaeshana. But before you decide I need to tell you everything which has happened then."

And so Tegaea launched into a summarised version of the last x number of years, starting with the painful resignation of office from the Protectorate, their coming to Kaeshana, the founding of Firemane and the Game of Thrones with the Eldorai crown. She also mentioned Mirien wherever she could.

"And then you went off with Phylis to Alderaan to fight the One Sith...and here you are now," she finished.

"You needed to know all that so you can make an informed decision about who Mirien is, what's happened since you lost your memories, and whether you want to try her solution."

[member="Tegaea Alcori"], [member="Mirien Valdier"]

The irony was that Siobhan had probably only known Mirien for a day or two longer than Tegaea. After all, she had made her acquaintance during the course of a business trip to Alderaan, where the former Grand Inquisitor had been by chance!

In any case Siobhan listened to Tegaea mostly in silence as she spoke. No matter how badly her memory had degraded, she clearly still remembered her wife and in her presence seemed to calm down, the anxieties vanishing for a few moments at least as she was able to focus. The feeling of being lost and weak receded for now. Having someone, even a person she had clearly trusted, into her mind was a terribly sensitive subject for her. Leaving aside the fact that she had just been mind raped on Alderaan, there were also the memories of Darth Shadow.

Yes, she did still remember the 'little incidents' during her time as a Jedi Knight. "I understand. I'm...sorry for putting you through this. All of it." finally she spoke. Aside from the overwhelmning concern she felt for herself, there was also another feeling coursing through her, namely guilt at putting her wife through this.

"And...if it does not work and backfires what could happen then? I forgot more and things get worse? I forget things like how to walk and need to be cared for all the time?" she tried to keep the tremble out of her voice as she spoken openly about her fears, something that never came easy for her, turning her eyes towards Mirien.

Tegaea was no expert on Force based healing. Still, the prospect was clearly terrifying for her wife, and she took her hand reassuringly.
"I don't know, Miri will explain the danger to you and the possible consequences, and then it will be your choice. Know that no matter what happens I will always love you," she said simply and gave Siobhan a kiss.
