Sabena Shai
Character
Sabena Shai was a Jedi Padawan of the Galactic Republic. She had been raised by the Jedi since before she was a toddler and thus only knows of the Jedi's values and ideals as ways to live. She was devoted to the Republic, believing that it is the best bet for galactic peace. She was well learned and spent much of her time learning of the galaxy via what was written in the Jedi Archives - fulfilling one of the pillars of being a Jedi Youngling.
After the One Sith conquered Coruscant, she retreated with the rest of the Jedi Order. While on Anaxes just in the aftermath of the battle, she was approached by Jedi Master Kira Liadain - who reportedly noticed a unique yet undisclosed talent within the young woman. It was then that Sabena became Kira's Padawan and began journeying the galaxy with her.

Sabena displayed a very kind and caring personality. She seemed as compassionate as the Sith were ruthless. She seemed eager to assist when others needed, as well as considerate and discreet with those confided to her in confidence.
For those that observed her, it appeared that she was very charming and able to convince others with ease to assist her in return - or sometimes, just to assist her with no promise of anything in return. This charm proved useful in the few instances of her training that required her to investigate problems on Coruscant or go undercover. It was this charm that drew the interest of Jedi Master Kira Liadain.
Blonde with blue eyes, she bore a striking resemblance to former Jedi such as Spencer Jacobs and Daella Apparine. Where the latter spent a lot of time hiding her feelings, Sabena was very emotive. Others would seem to know how she felt with ease - allowing them to understand what she supposedly thought.
For attire, Sabena kept it very simple as any other Jedi would. While she took the time to make her clothing and robes somewhat appealing, she did value the practical nature of what the Jedi wore and thus had no issues with it. She also would wear minimal makeup, at the most, opting for a natural look most of the time. It helped that she had naturally clear, smooth skin.
Standing just below average height for a woman, Sabena was hardly a physically imposing presence.
The biography the Jedi have of Sabena is very simple. She was born on Anaxes during the growth of the contemporary Galactic Republic. She was discovered to be Force sensitive early in her life. Her parents were not Force sensitive and decided that life under the training of the Jedi would be best for her future. Thus, Sabena was one of the many Jedi raised in the order since birth.
With the Jedi Order being the only thing she has known all her life, its values became a part of her culture and ideals. She went through the training of being a Jedi since she was old enough. She spent the majority of her time on Coruscant and built a rapport with the group of Younglings she was partnered with.
For most of her life, it was fairly comfortable. Coruscant, under the watch of the Republic and Jedi, was fairly peaceful. Yet when Omni - a super intelligent AI with an army that surpassed the Republic might - appeared, life for Sabena quickly changed. The attacks by Omni ended up tearing up the Youngling Clan she was in. Many were killed by the surprise attacks. She had always found droids and automatons to be disturbing - yet the event just further fueled her distrust of them that lasted even up to 837 ABY.
Following that, most that Sabena had grown up with began going their separate ways as they were chosen by Masters. Sabena stayed behind for a little while longer - long enough to witness the One Sith conquer Coruscant and destroy the Jedi Temple as she fled. This event was burned into her mind - from Darth Odium's relentless destruction to Darth Junra's betrayal. She lost many more friends from her Youngling Clan. She memorized the names and faces of all the Sith that appeared that battle, as well as the comrades that had died at the Jedi Temple.
Once Sabena had arrived on Anaxes, she remained there until, after her return from Sith capivity, Jedi Master Kira Liadain offered to teach the young woman the ways of the Force.
During the Battle of Manaan, Sabena went with Lira Dajenn, Sopher, and several other Jedi to board the Phobos in space. Upon boarding the hangar, the Jedi managed to take down Yuuzhan-Vong forces that were on the ship. Eventually, Mordecai Zambrano, in full armor with a Kraetos shield, came from the main hallway to the hangar to confront the Jedi. During the fight, Sabena threw some black powder at him and managed to get the Kraetos shield to ignite it. With the help of Lira, the two Jedi pulled down a catwalk on Mordecai. Though the Sith evaded the catwalk, he lost his shield and lightsaber in the process.
A freighter, crewed by Lara Zambrano, soon crashed into the hangar. During the ensuing chaos, Sabena lost her lightsaber under the catwalk debris. Yet, she managed to kill the Kraetos shield and procured Mordecai's lightsaber before noticing the extent of the damage that the freighter had caused. Lara was Mordecai's daughter, and she had been severely injured by the crash. As Sabena approached Mordecai and Lara, Lira left the hangar in order to find the controls of the Phobos.
After approaching the Zambranos, Sabena healed Lara so that she would not be in immediate threat of dying. The effort exhausted Sabena and Mordecai did not pursue the Jedi's death any further. Sopher assisted the young woman to one of two J-1 starfighters left. Sabena quickly took off. Lira contacted Sabena and asked for a pick up. Lira had convinced the Yamosk controlling the Phobos to crash into the Immortal. After Lira sliced her way out of the Phobos, she activated her beacon - which Sabena honed in on. Sabena managed to catch up with Lira. Exposing herself to the dangers of space, Sabena opened the cockpit of the starfighter she was on to let Lira in. This knocked her unconscious, but Lira was then able to pilot the starfighter to safety with Sabena.
According to the Jedi Archive's logs, Sabena had almost sub par scores in lightsaber combat training as a Youngling - at least when dummies and droids were involved. Most trainers would report her as having stiff legs - not being too quick or nimble. She also did not have much physical strength to aid her in fights, being just below average height for a woman as well as being very thin in her build.
However, she was very gifted in the Force - even if it took more than a second glance to realize. This was the foundation of her strength in all aspects of her life.

Back to the Republic! With possibly just a little bit of a revenge flavor. Sabena should be a fun little Jedi to roleplay with. For those wondering, there will be no planned betrayal six month later (maybe sooner, maybe later, or maybe not at all). Those that roleplayed with me in the past may find new nuances in how I write Sabena. I suggest paying attention to those if you want to stay on top of her shenanigans (as benign as they are, depending on your point of view).
