STRENGTHS
  • AR-0B Damage Reduction Armor Component - With an ablative current coursing through the hull, this system assists in the removal of harmful particle build-up and other debris that would otherwise cause additional damage to the hull plating of the vessel. This also assists in lengthening the longevity of the vessel's hull plating, providing for longer periods of service between retrofitting or large-scale repairs.
  • GalaxyGuard Mark VII - A shield system component that provides additional endurance to the vessel's standard Deflector Shields. This system also extends the range of the shields to provide additional coverage - thus extending the defensive capabilities of the Deflector Shield.
  • R-PB6 Repair System - Comprised of short-range Probe Droids housed within a specialized launch system - this component ejects the probe droids into space near the launcher. Once activated, these droids can begin repairing the hull of nearby vessels as well as the original vessel that launched the droids.
  • L-41c Weapon Power Converter - An older component - the original design of which was developed during the Galactic War between the Old Republic and Sith Empire - which provides the capacity of transferring power from a vessel's engines into their weapon reserves. This allows for a vessel's weapons to be fired for a longer duration or more sustained period during combat - potentially increasing the likelihood of surviving a dogfight.
  • WhisperThrust Engine - A rather uncommon engine component that utilizes supercooled gases and specialized engine components to scatter escaping exhaust from a vessel's engines. The Engine is designed to leave behind as little of a sensor wake as possible which in theory would permit a vessel no larger than a freighter to remain virtually undetected on sensors provided they remain at a cruising speed.
  • Heavily Armed - Compared to other Gunships or Gunboats of a similar size, the Rugrus-class is more heavily armed, earning it its designated classification as a 'Heavy Gunship'.
  • Need for Speed - The vessel itself comes equipped with multiple Ion-based engines providing it greater speed for a vessel relative to its size, permitting it to match speed with Starfighters save for the fastest vessels in existence in the Galaxy.
WEAKNESSES
  • Dual H9 Turbolaser Cannon - Though serving as the primary weapon system of the Gunship - placed in a forward-firing arc to bring to bear its full capabilities - the weapon itself is known to rapidly drain its power reserves. This is due in part to the H9 Turbolaser originally designed to be installed on larger vessels such as the CR90 Corvette. This means that the Gunners must skillfully and carefully utilize this weapon least they render their primary weapon powerless and must wait for it to recharge before it can be utilized again - placing them at a disadvantage during a dogfight.
  • WhisperThrust Engine - Though this system has the potential to render a vessel no larger than a freighter virtually undetectable to Sensors, it does not, however, make the vessel itself invisible or otherwise undetectable to the naked eye. Likewise, bursts of high speeds - such as through the utilization of the SubLight Acceleration Motor - would render the vessel immediately detectable on Sensors.
  • SLAM Passout - An unintended and undesired side-effect of the SubLight Acceleration Motor is the possibility that it can render the crew unconscious after it's been utilized. This can render the vessel vulnerable in a number of ways - be it due to the pilots having passed out and can no longer operate the vessel, or the Gunners being incapacitated and incapable of operating the weapon systems.
  • Vulnerable to Boarding - Due to its relatively small size, and lacking any actual internal security measures short of the crew's sidearms, the Rugrus-class can easily be taken from within when boarded by a dedicated boarding party.
  • Low Squadron Count - Though not necessarily a weakness in full, the size and design of these vessels make deploying them in vast numbers infeasible. Those that are deployed must be done so in such a manner as to compliment or cover one another to further increase their chances of survival - ultimately their lack of deployment numbers can also leave a fleet vulnerable when it comes to Anti-Starfighter Operations or those operations that require some means of Starfighter Support.
  • Exposed Engines - Though maintaining high defensive capabilities - the Engines of the vessel are relatively vulnerable - both in terms of being more exposed in their stacked configuration as well as lacking additional weapon coverage in the aft region of the vessel. A dedicated Starfighter or Squadron has the potential of slipping behind the Rugrus-class and disabling its engines from behind, effectively leaving it dead in the water.
  • Flying Barn - Though known for its speed, it lacks considerably in the category of maneuverability - with the potential of outrunning Starfighters save for the fastest Interceptors, it is incapable of utilizing that speed for such rapid maneuvers as tight banks or rolls to outpace and place the vessel in a more favorable position. This can often limit its usefulness in dogfights or prolonged engagements in which maneuvers will dictate the outcome of a conflict.

DESCRIPTION
Designed to fill a role between that of a Dedicated Starfighter/Bomber and a Corvette - the Rugrus-class Heavy Gunship is meant to act more in a support role in terms of combat capability rather than a direct combat role. In this instance, it is often deployed from larger vessels when comprised in Squadrons - or singularly when on long-range missions - often to support Anti-Starfighter Corvettes and Frigates. Their primary weapon, a Dual H9 Turbolaser, is fixed in a forward position and provides a devastating weapon that can often make short-work of a Starfighter's defenses. However, its main drawback is its power consumption - which if fully depleted can render the vessel without its primary weapon, or worst yet, render the vessel itself completely powerless and dead in the water. This is often mitigated or carefully balanced with the vessel's L-41c Converter, which allows the Gunners to transfer power from the engines into the weapon directly to ensure that its power reserve is not depleted more rapidly. This though has its own downside which can often render the engines powerless, requiring a delicate waltz to maintain appropriate power levels in both the weapon and engines.

However, it should also be noted that the vessel boasts an impressive array of weapons outside of its primary cannons, consisting of Ion Cannons, Torpedo, and Missile Launchers, as well as Auto-Blasters and Anti-Missile defenses. Even with it being heavily armed and armored for that matter, the Rugrus-class is surprisingly agile in terms of speed, due in part to its six Ion-based engines, which provides the vessel a means of potentially outpacing some of the fastest Interceptors in existence. However, in terms of maneuverability, you'd have better luck strapping engines on a barn and turning it on a dime than the Rugrus-class would of being able to perform a similar rapid maneuver. This can, in turn, limit its usefulness in a prolonged dogfight as it is rather more equipped to screen enemy corvettes or frigates away from Anti-Starfighter vessels - or utilized in the interception of slower-moving enemy vessels such as Bombers and Shuttlecraft.

Even with these drawbacks in terms of its lack of maneuverability, low deployment count in regards to squadron sizes, and the energy consumption of its primary weapon - the Rugrus-class fills an important role that other Lastwall and affiliated organization's vessels lack or cannot properly fill. The Rugrus-class assists other vessels in their own missions, ensuring that Corvettes and Frigates have an additional heavy hitter to support their own complements in terms of Starfighter Squadrons or weapon load-outs. Likewise, the Rugrus-class can also be utilized as a heavy escort vessel - as it is capable of carrying passengers, albeit a limited number - though lacks the same capabilities as a dedicated shuttlecraft might. Still, with the Galaxy spanning Conflicts still posing a threat, the Rugrus-class is poised to become a more common sight in the galaxy.
