- Sectioned off: With blast doors and special shielding that sections off the laboratory from the two other sections of the ship, potential outbreaks are entirely contained.
- Liveable: With the top section of the ship almost entirely dedicated to living quarters, outside of a small cockpit, up to four researchers can live in the mobile research station for up to 3 weeks.
- Overequiped: With the idea in mind to bring everything necessary, the laboratory is equipped with as much heavy duty equipment as possible, while the rest of the equipment is safely stored away until use is needed. Up to 3 weeks off disposable supplies will also be stored on the dormitory level.
- Unarmed: This is a scientific vessel. It is not meant to defend itself, either. It’s slow, bulky, and any room for small arms has been sacrificed to hold more disposable supplies.
- Limited long term viability: This is a mobile station, and even with more supplies that could be delivered, there’s only room for a few medibeds on the vessel where more long term illnesses can be observed.
- Cramped space: RRML’s are packed to the brim with as much scientific equipment as possible. 4 researchers, two attending to the beds and the other two working in the stations is near capacity without the researchers bumping into each other.
The Laboratories Concerned with Force Overreach, hereafter referred to LCFO, has many laboratories that are connected to the conglomerate throughout the galaxy, as well as a headquarters on Vassek. However, the galaxy is so vast, and events can pop up so unexpectedly, that the executive decision was made to create a mobile laboratory that could land and conduct experiments wherever was needed. A collaboration between @Zenva Vrotoa’s Vrotoa Industries and the LCFO connected manufacturing wing Csaplar Ironworks, the Rapid Response Mobile Laboratory, RRML, came to be.
There were a few pieces to this laboratory that Aaaine made clear needed to happen. It needed to be livable for a short-medium length of time, it needed to be able to take in potentially radioactive/contagious elements, and it needed to be able to do the majority of testing on site. All three were completed within the bounds of a small craft. The choice to create a spear shaped vessel seemed to be the smartest move. RRML’s are split into three layers, or floors. The living space and cockpit at the top, the laboratory in the middle which takes up the majority of the craft, and an unloading area at the bottom. The laboratory was separated from the top and bottom of the sphere by a singular, ray shielded blast door. Beyond that, there is a small decontamination space that one must pass through to be able to access the bottom and top of the ship.
The top included the living area, four small cots and a food synthesizer, as well as the majority of storage. A small cockpit sat at the very top of the sphere, piloted often by a droid brain. Researchers are able to live, albeit spartanly, in this space for up to 3 weeks. The food synthesizer can produce food for up to that long, and more supplies could technically prolong the amount of time researchers stay on the ship. A small shower is also included, with a recycled water tank located on the bottom of the ship.
The middle, the laboratory, is the largest portion of the ship. Two medi-beds, as well as a pair of bacta tanks, take up the majority of one third of the available space. The rest is filled with every piece of Virology and general laboratory equipment one could find. Every stage of research, from identification to production, albeit on a tiny scale, can be completed within the confines of this sphere. 4 researchers in this space can work generally without bumping into each other, and if any other spaces are needed, multiple small research stations can be set up outside the sphere. Those stations are packed into storage, alongside a pair of speeder bikes. Electric plug-ins are located near the bottom of the ship, too.
The RRML will allow the LCFO to be where it needs to be, as quickly as it can. Research does not need to wait weeks, months for the appropriate data and information to get where it needs to. If the LCFO can be on site, helping, researching alongside the situation, better and quicker salutations are right around the corner.
