The True Face of Envy...

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

[*]Role: A Hungered Vassal to her Lord and Master, Darth Voracitos
[*]Links:

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 32
  • Force Sensitivity: Knight
  • Species: Zabrak (Dathomirian)
  • Appearance: Though once, Rosalunn Javil was known for her attraction, she has fallen far in her vain pursuits for further beauty. Her face in particular has been mutilated beyond all recognition or repair, and corrupted in the agony of the dark side. Deformed and skeletal, Rosalunn Javil in all her shame hid her hideous scarred face behind a mask of beautiful artisanship, and regal garments.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Rosalunn Javil, (Alias: The Lady Envy)
  • Loyalties: The Sith Empire, The Coven of Gluttony, Darth Voracitos
  • Wealth: Her wealth is the wealth of the Coven, at the discretion of her Lord of Gluttony
  • Notable Possessions:
Alchemical Mask - A mask gifted to Rosalunn by her former master Novam through his knowledge of Sith Alchemy, for her purpose of concealing her unfortunate disfigurements. The mask is blaster and lightsaber resistant, and is capable of absorbing Sith lightning to some degree. However, the artifact is quite heavy, and not made with great quality, meaning while it is resistant to the above, it will just as easily and will likely break resisting any of the above.
  • Scrolls of Smoke Demons - Created by Rosalunn herself in her studies of Sith magic, these inferior scrolls intended for Smoke Demon incantations are made with care, but lacking in full understanding and knowledge. They are still capable of summoning Smoke Demons provided the incanter is prudent about their targets, though they will be weaker and less controllable than the historical relics.

[*]Skills:
  • "Nethermancy", Skill (Moderate) - A type of Sith Magic developed by Darth Voracitos after his expedition into the Netherworld, where along his journey he bound innumerable tormented souls to his will, likely through a form of Force Walk. To create his Coven, he offered his Vassals a portion of the power he had consumed in the Netherworld, and thus utilized a technique similar to Invoke Spirits, to give his Vassals command over a few of the spirits he had collected, amplifying their strengths by virtue of ancient dead dark siders formerly trapped in the Netherworld. Thus, Nethermancy comes with the flexibility of making the practitioner stronger with a variety of skills inherent to the bound spirits they are borrowing. Though with no physical remains to amplify their power, and their power being diluted by virtue of the souls being borrowed by their master who they are bound to, a greater volume of souls are required to have any meaningful impact on one's mastery and command of the force. Additionally, it means these strengths are inherently tied to the will of Darth Voracitos, who can relinquish their souls on command, or immediately re-assume control of them in a variety of horrifying manners. One should beware the tempting power of Nethermancy however, as without the cure to the madness inherent in being host to multiple spirits (even if borrowed from their Master, Voracitos), the users of Nethermancy will find that their natural connection to the force shall decay as they become reliant on their power, while their bodies will decay the longer they do not use its power. This creates a powerful addiction, that will eventually strip away their ability to control their violent urges, or destroy them by shunning it.
  • Dwomutsiqsa, Skill (Novice) - Whether by virtue of her Nethermancy or her own power, Rosalunn is capable of summoning a Smoke Demon, a being capable of manifesting into its victims various fears, as well as being capable of vaporizing its intended target after paralyzing them. Additionally, Smoke Demon's were known to have significant strength, being comparable to a wookie's, and were seemingly immune to blaster bolts (though not to lightsaber blades). They were also known to be able to accomplish this with relative silence. Some of the fall backs included however, that the summoning of the demon required a ritual incantation involving the power of a scroll. Since the scroll that Rosalunn possesses (created by her in her studies) is inferior to any original, naturally her own Smoke Demon's are both less powerful and less under her own control. For instance, her's are unable to paralyze their victims before attempting to vaporize them, and is likely only capable of damaging its target as opposed to being lethal should the target become aware of the Smoke Demon.
  • Sith Alchemy, Skill (Moderate) - By her own nature, Rosalunn seems inherently capable of utilizing the power of Sith Alchemy, and is able to moderately alter objects and living beings through the power of the dark side... though her application is limited, as is made clear in her first attempt to utilize her power to changer her appearance, resulted in permanent and disparaging disfigurement.
  • Dathomir Magic, Skill (Untrained) - Considering her lineage (and a part of her ability to utilize some form of Sith Alchemy), Rosalunn has the potential to learn all the spells of Dathomir Magic, but has had little opportunity to do so. Though her powers do often manifest in ways that gives one the image of a Dathomiran Witch.
  • Force Drain, Skill (Advanced) - A side effect of her attachment to the Coven of Gluttony, Rosalunn's force energy has been fed upon by her former master Novam, and her current Master, Lord Voracitos, thus Rosalunn possesses a void in her soul that allows her to feed upon the force energy of others. Her use of the power is an active one she must choose to use, unlike the presence of Darth Voracitos, who's mere proximity often makes her lightheaded from its effects.

[*]Personality: Vain, vindictive, and venomous to the core, Rosalunn Javil is nothing less than an avatar of jealousy. A narcissist in the purest sense of the word, she sees beauty in almost nothing but herself, especially when she came to terms with her disfigurement. The mask her former master Novam had granted her, gave her a new face - a new identity. For all those who found her beautiful before her tragic accident, and rejected her in her time of need, she finds vengeance in destroying anyone who find them as suitors again. For the one who enticed her into slavery, through the promise of power, she found vengeance in bowing his head to her feet. For the whole galaxy that reviles her and would see her destroyed for what she has become, she finds vengeance in obliterating the beauties of the galaxy, leaving only herself to be loved. There was little light in the soul of Rosalunn Javil, but the light died long ago when The Lady Envy was born.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: The Force
  • Combat Function: Rosalunn Javil, The Lady Envy, is more of an assassin and sorceress than a warrior, and her skills reflect this in combat. She is able to summon a smoke demon, provided she has ample time to read her incantation from one of her scrolls and chooses a meaningful target, which can silently dispatch a target if she can manage to focus and control its movements. However, if pressed into a confrontation where this is not possible, she will attempt to use Force Drain to wither her opponent down to allow her to escape. If she is unable to escape, she may call upon the power of the souls vested in her by Darth Voracitos, and attempt to invoke spirits to grant her their strengths and abilities, in the hopes they will be enough to defeat her assailant. Rosalunn Javil however, should be considered utterly harmless if ever removed from her ability to command the force, as she is untrained and unable to physically engage in combat.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Rosalunn Javil was once considered a beauty to behold, valued for her face, the strength of her own vanity knowing few bounds. She was showered with gifts and suitors, but it was not until she discovered her true ancestry, not simply a Zabrak, that she sought to use a hidden power within herself. No, she was not a Zabrak entirely, but a descendant of a Nightsister marooned on this foreign planet during the 400 year darkness, and with that lineage came the power of the force... and the dark side. Enticed by the prospect of her abilities, she gave in to her temptations, and her vanity. Utilizing what very little she knew of the magick and power that would come to dominate her life, Rosalunn attempted to transform her appearance into a form so beautiful and perfect none would defy her desires.

The transformation failed... horrifically, and forevermore Rosalunn would carry the burden of her egregious mistake upon her very face and body. In terrible pain, she sought out help from her suitors, who all abandoned her or reviled the monstrosity they assumed had killed Rosalunn Javil. She raged against her misfortune, and the dark side sustained her despite the agony that now plagued her. Hiding herself away, she kept watch of her suitors with lust and greed. When another beauty garnered their attraction, it was then Envy that took control of her actions. With her vanity destroyed, her damaged narcissistic heart reasoned the only way she could love herself again, was to destroy any beauty that wasn't hers.

Like a phantom, she would murder the men and woman who attracted her suitors, and would spare her suitors to watch beauty die wherever their hearts or lust wandered, following them like a curse. Some, unable to face this demonic trail of blood, took their own lives. Enraged and heart-stricken by this development, she became desperate to keep her suitors alive and filled with grief. This was when, a new suitor discovered her, and saw opportunity...

The new suitor of course, was a servant of the Lord of Gluttony himself, Darth Voracitos - a Hungered Vassal of the Coven of Gluttony, by the name of Novam. He had been sent across the galaxy in search of riches, artifacts, or new subjects to be added to the Coven. He offered her the same power that was once offered to him. When initially she refused, Novam was able to procure for her a gift through the power of Sith Alchemy, knowledge passed on to him by Voracitos. The gift was a mask of ethereal beauty, to match the beauty her own face once held. She accepted it with gratification, and reconsidered her former refusal. It was at this time that she became a Starved Subject of the Coven, swearing fealty to Novam and Lord Voracitos as had many others upon his return from the Netherworld.

Disillusioned with her new position, Rosalunn attempted to leave the Coven, only to find she physically could not. Her mark prevented the vengeful spirit of deformed beauty from leaving the will of her new masters. She was whisked away from her suitors, and her vengeful mission was ended prematurely. This fostered a deep seated hatred for her new masters, in particular Novam who in a sense deceived her of what he was offering for his own gain. Thus, she learned all that she could of the dark side, and did all that she could to make herself indispensable to Novam, who was none the wiser of her inevitable betrayal.

She played the long game, ever envious of her master's position, and ferocious in her pursuit of knowledge and power. Her slow yet growing hunger fed upon her master's other subjects, and fed upon subjects of Novam's rival Hungered Vassals. Finally, it came to a point where Novam was unaware of his dependency on Rosalunn's obedience. Then sometime recently, Rosalunn came upon her master as he made audience with the other Vassals and Darth Voracitos himself. She and all his subjects under her own command, fed upon his power, draining him until he was weak enough for her to physically dominate him. Voracitos was amused by the spectacle, and allowed Rosalunn to accept Novam as her Subject, making her a new Hungered Vassal to his power, as such the Sith Lord relinquished the Nethermancy he had bestowed upon Novam, and transferred it to his former subject and new master.

With her revenge on Novam complete, she used her new found strength in the force to create a small "gift", in return for the beautiful countenance she now wore, for Novam. It was a heavy mask that would forever bow his head to Rosalunn Javil, who relinquished her old name and became: The Lady Envy. With nothing left to seek vengeance upon, and now possessing the power to restore her beauty in a sense, The Lady Envy considered returning to her homeworld for her former suitors, serving Darth Voracitos in name alone. She however, reconsidered this and began to see a kind of beauty in the atrocity she had become out of her vengeance, reconciling in her vain heart that she could be beautiful again not by restoring herself to watch she used to be... but by destroying everything that was more beautiful than she was. To hold that kind of power, she then desired the power of Darth Voracitos himself, and resolved to once again become indispensable to her master, while she scourged the galaxy of anything more beautiful than her countenance, awaiting the day she would assume that power and become the envy of every living thing in the universe...

So a nicely detailed submission, however I do have one or two things that need addressed or clarified:

  • Darth Voracitos said:
Thus, Nethermancy comes with the flexibility of making the practitioner stronger with a variety of skills inherent to the bound spirits they are borrowing.
What skills and abilities does this NPC gain specifically from this? The given information is rather vague, and I would be uncomfortable with the idea that this would let her gain access to a whole slew of enhancements and skills that are not outright stated.

[member="Taeli Raaf"] I would take it to mean that upon being granted the ability to borrow these souls and utilizing nethermancy, it merely elevates a user (in this case Rosalunn Javil) from whatever force mastery they were before (i.e., acolyte) and elevate them to a level of control equivalent to a step above them (knight). So instead of merely using force push, they are amplifying their power with these souls to get a better bang for their buck, than would be typical of their ordinary skill.

So in this particular case, without Nethermancy Rosalunn Javil would be equivalent to an acolyte, but being allowed to borrow and invoke these souls borrowed from Voracitos, her strength and control over the force has grown to the equivalent of a Knight, and has given greater insight into the above force powers listed in the submission.

Is that a satisfactory answer? :)

Is there a downside to such an increase? Besides Voracitos being able to take the souls away if he ever desires to, there doesn't seem to be any downside to drawing on the powers of these souls.

[member="Taeli Raaf"] not really, it is functionally the same as/similar to Invoke spirits as linked in the description, except by its nature the spirits being invoked are bond to Voracitos, and thus are borrowed by a Hungered Vassal like Rosalunn Javil, subject to removal at any time (in case a Hungered Vassal grows too powerful and attempts to challenge him).

I suppose them using skills they weren't really trained for aren't truly learned, thus once their souls are relinquished, they lack the raw power to preform any more.

I feel for her to keep that ability, a serious downside needs to be added in as this is an extremely powerful ability, especially when Force Walk and Invoke Spirits both have serious consequences for people who use them. Right now, it just seems too much like a blank check to increase someone's power and abilities.

Also, very minor gripe, the Sith Empire needed to be linked under loyalties.

[member="Taeli Raaf"] minor gripe addressed.

As for the "ability" itself, I don't see any downsides to Invoke spirits at all in wookieepedia, which is my only source of information, which for all intents and purposes, is this ability. The only difference here is the source of the spirits being invoked, which come from Voracitos who they are bound to. How he acquires them and the weaknesses associated with that skill would fall primarily on him, since he is the original host.

Tbf, the skill is more fluff than anything, as the power level of the NPC in question will remain (at Knight), this only gives Voracitos an avenue by which to strip them of their powers (thus forcing them down to acolyte) by making them reliant on the spirits they have borrowed, so that none within his Coven can challenge him. Additionally, since the spirits are bound to him and not them, he can keep an eye on them wherever they are, and thus cannot escape from his will.

Though if I must come up with something, I suppose I could make the prolonged reliance on such primal spiritual hatred for their power, cause their natural connection to the force to decay, and have their body wither the longer they go without using it, in order to create an addiction Voracitos may take advantage of.

Would those be sufficient weaknesses?

The following was added:
One should beware the tempting power of Nethermancy however, as without the cure to the madness inherent in being host to multiple spirits (even if borrowed from their Master, Voracitos), the users of Nethermancy will find that their natural connection to the force shall decay as they become reliant on their power, while their bodies will decay the longer they do not use its power. This creates a powerful addiction, that will eventually strip away their ability to control their violent urges, or destroy them by shunning it.
