- Multi-Counter: Multiple types of interception warheads and projectile countermeasure technology utilized by the Saladin allow it to appropriately respond to a multitude of different threats.
- Rapid Response: The Saladin is designed for rapid, close-detection and response countermeasure warfare, meaning it can be effective even when projectiles are fired at a very close range.
- Area-of-Effect Explosives: The Saladin is extremely ineffective against Area-of-Effect explosives as its method of countermeasure, prematurely detonating a projectile, will detonate an area-of-effect explosive just the same as if it had impacted on target, which could possibly disable friendly infantry nearby.
- Finite Munitions: The Saladin has a finite amount of munitions and thus can only be active and respond to threats so many times before the system must be reloaded.
The RMV-APS14 Saladin Anti-Projectile Countermeasure System is A next generation close-range, rapid-response defense system produced by Roble Manufacturing, designed to evolve the abilities of anti-projectile warfare and better equip bases, vehicles, starships and even mobile units with better defensive capabilities.
The Saladin incorporates an internal passively-active electronic scanner array that is continuously scanning the battlefield for threats. This extensive online time is powered both by solar radiation collector panels and a Sybarium crystal-centric power generation amplifier, allowing it to operate on a completely independent power source from any vehicle, ship or mount it is on. Once an incoming projectile is identified, the Saladin launches an explosive anti-projectile warhead -- designed with a combustible casing to minimize fragmentation on impact, and a blast effect to prematurely detonate or destabilize a hostile projectile -- that essentially will intercept and destroy an incoming missile or projectile. This is very effective for anti-vehicle weaponry, but less so against area-of-effect projectiles, as the Saladin will still detonate the projectile even if it is premature, which could lead to friendly casualties nearby if the missile or projectile has a wide blast radius.
Ultimately the Saladin will be a vital instrument to anti-missile and point-defense weaponry in the wars to come, and demonstrates the next generation of defensive technology that Roble Manufacturing is prepared to deploy.
