Burn the past - Heal the future

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Intent: To create a species of Risen for Shamira to use in future roleplay.
Canon: Mynock
Permissions: N/A
Links: Bronze Tanzy (Vines for movement and new muscles), Thralda Leaves and Acknite Moss (combined to create the skin over Bronze Tanzy), Thralda Leaves (thinned and stripped to create the skin for it’s wings) Blood Nettle (sharp leaf tips on the beak), Icsebore flowers (coating the tips of the Blood Nettle leaf spikes)

GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: Risen Mynock
Designation: Non-sentient
Origins: Created and “risen” at Caer Badru.
Average Lifespan: Risen Mynock can for an average of ten months to a year before the magic and plants holding them together begin to fall apart and die.
Estimated Population: Semi Unique - 8 created as of this sub’s existence, and 6 of those 8 are still “alive” while two have decomposed. 5 reside on Ryloth, while 1 has been given as a gift and as an experiment to see the effects of the risen once off Ryloth.
Description: Risen Mynock’s are even more frightening to look at than their none risen brothers. Naturally, as most all Risen are, they mostly come in a light green color, with the fleshy “skin” connecting their wings to their bodies partially see through due to the thinness of the leaves used. While Mynock’s more often than not are little more than scavengers, Risen Mynock’s have been given an elongated beak, created mostly of Blood Nettle leaves. Handling of the beak is extremely discouraged, as they are each tipped with a small amount of Icsebore flower oil. Much like the Risen Boar-Wolf, a Risen Mynock’s skin is leathery to the touch.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Breathes: Type 1 - Cannot breath in an vacuum like a regular Mynock
Average Height of Adults: .5 meters
Average Length of Adults: 2 meters
Skin color: Dark green, slightly fuzzy looking skin, with green splotches where the leaf mixture for the skin is more prevalent. The skin connecting the wigs to the body is a much lighter, see through green. This is due to the thinned thralda leaves.
Hair color: The moss along their hide can appear hair like. It is typically described as a deep brownish color.
Distinctions: As with most risen, there is not a distinction with what the creature used to be in terms of gender. However, with Mynock’s, Shamira has observed the female mynock’s that are risen do have a slightly lighter color of green on their wings than the former males. Either way, there is very little difference between male and female, and, in general, all of the risen Mynock. As the Risen do get older, and degrade, eventually their green coloring does become more and more brown, the color of dying plants and leaves.
Races: Singular species
Force Sensitivity: Non-sensitive

Strengths:

  • Upgrades, people!: While a mynock in it’s before risen form is little more than a parasitic hairless bird, Risen Mynock’s have been given a elongated and hardened nose, tipped with severely sharp spikes and can be much more than a simple nuisance now. In the tests where they have been released in a pack, these Risen have been able to kill creatures as big as aak-dogs and tauntuans.
  • No sustenance needed (with exceptions): Exactly like how they functioned before the Rising, Risen Mynock’s do not need water or food to sustain them as they have no major organs. The only necessity they have is to feed on electricity whenever the hunger arises.

Weaknesses:
  • Still a parasite: before being risen, Mynocks were known to be parasites that fed on ship’s electrical wiring. While Risen may not necessarily need this constant feed of electricity, they are still known to be unpredictable and will chew on wiring if left unattended. The best way to curb this, crudely enough, is to literally hook wires up to a portable battery and allow the mynock to satisfy themselves.
  • Still a beast: Risen Mynock’s can be trained to be loyal to a single person or group, much like a hawk, they are still beasts, and still are prone to unpredictable bouts of violence. There are better options out there for hunting companions.

CULTURE
Diet: Other - Risen Mynocks, and Risen in general, do not need food to survive. Mynocks do not even need water to keep them going, instead functioning on a spotty supply of energy and photosynthesis.

Communication: Risen have the ability to put together small amounts of telepathically transmitted sentences and words through the Nether. They are more often than not little more than broken basic, but the more time they spend around a sentient after they’ve risen, the more language they can pick up. This is communicated through the Nether to those that have a strong connection to the animal, most typically it's creator. Otherwise, it's squawks and screeches would just sound like normal animal noises to the unconnected. Risen Mynocks are the first Risen to also use a varied use of screeches and squacks to connatate meaning.
Technology level: No technology use.
Religion/Beliefs: No religion, as they are still, at their core, animals, outside of revering and respecting the witches of the Mandragora for bringing them back to life.
General behavior: Risen Mynock’s are an interesting deviation from the typical behavior of Risen in general. Instead of hanging out around rivers and basking in the sun most of the day, they are much, much more active at night rather than the day. During the day, they can be seen hanging from trees around Caer Badru, their wings functioning as large photosynthesis catchers. At night, the group of Risen Mynocks that stay on ryloth can be seen flying through the moonlit skies together, their screeches akin to ones uncivilized worlds would call banshees.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The idea for Risen was not exactly something that many witches had toyed with before Shamira Kaurto had joined the Mandragora coven. Necromancy was plentiful, but it was really only used to bring back the dead in small amounts, and the results were typically less than exciting on their own, at least to her. Because of this, Shamira wanted to create a better necromancy risen zombie like creature. This endeavour took a large amount of research to even begin to conceive on how to do it.
The first task was collecting the samples that were needed to actually enhance the dead’s body functions past where they were when they were alive. That meant studying many, many different plants to find out what worked best. Thankfully, there were quite a few at Caer Badru to start this research off. Shamira spent many a night in the gardens, testing vine’s strength, spikes sharpness, and the toughness of moss. Once all of this research was done and collected, attempting to figure out how to use the force to grow these species quicker and reproduce them through the force using plant surge.
Like collecting the sources for the Risen Boar Wolf, Shamira needed the carcasses and bones of Mynocks before being able to actually going through the rising process. Thankfully, retrieving them was a much simpler process than the Boar Wolf, and did not require an entire expedition to get them. Instead, the bodies of these parasites were shipped directly to Caer Badru where Shamira spent a few weeks studying them and their anatomy.
The rising process, this time, was a bit more involved than the Boar Wolves, as Shamira had to fundamentally chance parts of the Mynock’s anatomy. Fusing and elongating the leaves to the Mynock’s face to function as a beak and face, removing their suckers. This also included removing the skin position of their wings and replacing it with leaves containing the ability to use photosynthesis. This process, obviously, resulted in quite a few failures before current eight functioning Risen forms were finished.

I really enjoyed reading this sub and it's a very interesting and cool concept. I just have one question:

Communication | You've stated here that "Risen have the ability to put together small amounts of telepathically transmitted sentences and words". How is this possible if they are a non-sensitive species?

In my mind, and in practice, what is literally keeping these things together is the Nether. Which, being an extra dimension within the force, allows shamira to understand what they may be thinking in animal speak and have it translated through her mind into words as long as she has a connection to the Nether.

They're not going to just..speak to everyone, is what I mean. It's really only their creator, and those with the ability to connect to the nether.

Ah, ok, I see. Would you mind adding that into your description in the Communication section to give a clear idea that the telepathy is between the Risen and Shamira?
