DON’T TAKE ME ALIVE

TOR VALUM

Being in the middle of a crossroads has never been a comfortable place to be in. Yael Kandar has been in a few throughout her life. Stuck between war and love, then love and dream. Now, she feels like she is closing in another one of those which wouldn’t let her leave unscathed.

She has never been good at following order. That was apparent in her stint as Enclave prominent dueler. But that turned out to be a disaster. So she tried to do the impossible, joining the Kyr’kara Blades, fighting for the Iron Covenant in open spaces and zero-gravity. Yet when her contemporaries started to look up to her, she disappeared.

The leadership mantle makes her skin itch like an allergy, the nightmare that was Enclave descend to chaos never stops haunting her.

So she flew away, first for a week, taking on a small bounty. It’s not like she had anyone waiting for her in Kestri, nor the Mythos Fleet. Gailen Keldau hasn’t reached out to her, and she doesn’t have the appetite to look for someone new, someone she would certainly hurt tenfold.

And the hunt brought back the fire in her. So she chased for more and more. Made friends in shady places while hiding from her former Black Sun employers. Maybe that’s the life she has always been made for. Maybe that’s how she can contribute to the Covenant the most, without the risk of plunging them into another unnecessary war.

So, when a bounty hunter friend offered her to join force for a bigger, more dangerous bounty on a marauding Sith, she didn’t hesitate to take the offer.

But first, she needs her Beskar’gam reforged. It’s an old model, with too many dents and bad memories. And she has the means to buy more equipments.

Thyr Kyron… I heard you run the place nowadays,” Yael announced her arrival to the place she once often visited. A lot has changed since the Enclave Crusade, and she hasn’t dare to walk in the place she once get to know Shai Maji Shai Maji .”

I need a repair and upgrade. Gonna gank a bunch of Sith in no time. You know how dangerous those lots can be,”

With the majority of the Iron Covenant embarked, the Mythos Fleet abroad somewhere in the Core, the population of Kestri's capital was diminished by some eighty percent. The outer sectors of Tor Valum were all but abandoned, and only the Basa'r Baryatr and Gtadrsa’na. Verd'kandar, smiths, and engineers of Kestri's industrial sector made up the majority of vode. Here and there, warriors had made their way back to Kestri to hawk some of their spoils from the Mythos Fleet's conquest abroad.

Market day in Tor Valum did not command the crowd it had when the majority of vode were still on Kestri, but the Ji'yr Market still was very busy. The regulars were much more prominent in the smaller crowd. From Thyr's own booth, she could count on one hand the beskar'gam that she didn't recognize; some Mythos Fleet verd, a Kryze from Mandalore, and a couple of veterans from out in the Cin'haastal range. Her own plunder from the morning's barters sat behind her, carefully wrapped in a cloth; circuitry, several camtonos of ore including beskar, a new grav-hammer, and her most prized victory of the day, an ancient beskar vibro-axe. She hoped to study and index the ancient design to improve her own craft. Her wares sat out front, shaded by the awning overhead. Some daggers and crafted weapons were on display, and the breastplate, pauldrons, and helmet of a beskar'gam set were on a stand adjacent to her table.

The market had slowed considerably once it had reached midday. Thyr stood absentmindedly at the table, her thoughts drifting out to the projects and quotas she had to complete. She'd probably close up shop soon and take back her prizes to the Bloodforges to get an early start. She casually watched two tiny foundlings run between the vendor's stalls, one chasing the other with a tiny stone dagger -- a Mandalorian plaything. The children squealed, the breathtaking thrill of the chase filling them with delight. Thyr's helmet made her impossible to read, but the corner of her mouth turned ever-so-slightly upwards as she watched the two, amused by their antics.

Footsteps from the opposite direction, nearing her, caught her attention, and she turned. Another newcomer. She thought she recognized the armor, but she couldn't place where.

Thyr Kyron… I heard you run the place nowadays,I need a repair and upgrade. Gonna gank a bunch of Sith in no time. You know how dangerous those lots can be,

Thyr stared blankly at the woman. If she ran things around here, then Kestri would be very different, but she chose to let that comment slide. Her eyes flitted briefly over her armor, cataloguing each piece, surmising composition, and evaluating how it sat on the warrior's frame. Yes, it could use some work. "How do you propose to pay?" Thyr asked lightly. She folded her arms across her chest. This stranger spoke of Sith, but something seemed. . . off about her. "You're not with the Mythos Fleet." It was less of a question and more of a statement, unless this vod would choose to challenge her assumption.
