Revenge Isn't The Issue

Trevin saw the planet before the ship touched the ground. A lot of people may have looked upon him and felt sorry for him when they realized he did not have eyes, others looked upon him as a lesser being maybe, but it was all he knew and there was nothing strange about it. He still "saw" things but not in the traditional way. Force sight was the technical term but he and other Mirakula just referred to it as the vision. Trying to explain what it was like to see with the vision was no easy task and he often times just took the lazy way out and said it was something similar to sonar, but it was nothing close, the way he saw things was much clearer than what eyes could see. He witnessed what things truly were, good or evil, or just plain things.

He was unsure about what to think of the new life he was undertaking. He had grown accustomed to life outside of the military, working every day, making meager wages, and sleeping in a nice bed inside of a place he had labeled home. Leaving it all behind had been no easy decision, but, the promise of a new life and possibly gaining enough strength to wreak vengeance on the man who had wronged him was something he could not pass up. There was excitement about learning the ways of the force, it was something that had intrigued him for many years, but he never thought he was capable of actually using it. More than anything he was anxious to get started.

The ship touched down and Zeltros, his pet canoid, jumped to attention. Reaching his hand out he gave the animal a soothing touch, he was not used to flying, and Trevin could feel that he was uneasy. Standing to his feet, Trevin pulled the hood over his head and hid the pair of black goggles that he used to hide his empty eye sockets. Tapping the side of his leg, the large canoid quickly jumped beside Trevin, and in mere moments he was stepping onto the planet of Roon.

He was meeting a man named Josiah, a Templar Ranger, who was to teach him how to control his powers. He knew nothing about the man besides his occupation, and honestly, he was completely ignorant to what was to come next. He knew he was meant to meet with him at the entrance of the large castle, a building called Roon Sanctum, and so Trevin did as he had been told. The castle was large and imposing, nothing like anything he had seen before, and a bit of nervousness began to run through his veins. He was just now realizing that he had no clue what he was doing and he considered turning and running back to the ship. But he was a man who did not quit and this was no different than anything else he had ever started.

He was going to finish it.

The events which had transpired on the world of Hypori were such that many were left with a bad taste in their mouths. The Confederacy of Independent Systems had been called to the world by the planetary leadership in response to riots that were simply getting out of hand. People were dying left and right, property was being destroyed, and nothing short of a militant intervention would have prevented outright anarchy. As such, the nation did what was necessary and quelled the riots; not due to a hatred of freedom, but out of the necessity of keeping the innocent men, women, and children of Hypori safe from harm's way. That day, many men and women distinguished themselves in the streets of the capital city, and among those was a man named Trevin.

According to the information the young Master received about the gentlemen in question, Trevin had served alongside the local authorities on Hypori during the riots. Furthermore, he was discovered to be Force sensitive over the course of the operation and was selected, due to his admirable service and untapped gift, to be trained on Roon by one of the Templar Order. Josiah, being the highest ranked Ranger, volunteered to take the man under his wing and had arranged the meeting of the present. As such, when Trevin's vessel touched down, the young Master was already at the Security Checkpoint awaiting his arrival. Garbed in his typical hooded jacket, cargo pants, and boots, the Templar seemed like an average joe.

When Trevin eventually made his way to the rather-imposing doors of steel which barred his entrance into the Sanctum, Josiah patted the security guard operating the station on the shoulder and instructed him to open them. It was then that he departed from the Checkpoint and made his way down to the opposing side of the door. With a hiss, mechanical components began to move and the doors slid open in order to receive the man standing before them. Once fully open, the young Master stepped forward and confidently strode across the distance between them, then extended a hand in greeting.

"Good afternoon! You must be Trevin. I am Josiah Denko, pleasure to finally meet you."

The robe wearing man had that same aura of the Jedi that he had fought alongside while in the Republic, Trevin knew that it was the force, but it was different in its own way. Where as the Jedi had a very pure and bright light, this man had a particularly.... neutral shade around him. It did not stick out as much as the Jedi or Sith he had encountered and Trevin found it a lot more pleasant to be around than the overbearing aura of a Jedi. Trevin was not to be confused, he had no problems with Jedi, just the way they carried themselves made them seem more self righteous then they really meant to be.

As the doors began to unlock, Trevin tilted his head to watch the inner workings of the mechanism work, one of the many perks of his vision. Where normal people would just hear loud noises and watch the doors open, Trevin was able to watch the mechanisms go to work and it was quite impressive. If the man goal was to keep people out he would bet that their would be many foes who would be able to easily penetrate the stronghold. It was a comforting feeling to know that, once inside, he would be relatively safe and unharmed from outside visitors.

"Pleasure is mine," He reached out and grasped the mans hand, feeling the power of the force radiate from him, he wondered if Trevin emitted something similar to it just weaker. "So this is Roon Sanctum? Quite the impressive structure. Must have taken awhile to build something like this?" Always the curious man, he could not help but think that a building of this size and security must have taken quite the long time to build. He was genuinely interested, and it showed as he gazed upon the building once more, scanning around and admiring the work that had been done.

It did not even take the contact between them for the young Master to fill the Force brimming within the Miraluka. Despite his sight not being as tuned to the enigmatic entity which characterized their lives, Josiah could feel the Force within this man and was delighted that he would have a hand in cultivating his usage of it. Once Trevin grasped the Templar's hand, he rendered a firm, brief shake before retracting his grasp and motioning past him. "Come, follow me, I'll show you around." he began, before striding forth. As his steps bore him closer to the true entrance of the Sanctum, which consisted of a tremendous archway of stone leading into the structure itself, Josiah began to respond with a brief history of the Sanctum.

"Actually," he said, "the Sanctum itself was once a citadel owned by an incredibly wealthy individual centuries ago. With the blessing of his descendants, we moved in and updated it to serve our purposes. Security, modern appliances, that sort of thing. We even have exceptional holo-net connectivity." The last portion was said with a smile, denoting the joke. Josiah realized that joining the Templar Order was a tremendous step for anyone to take. After all, the initial portion of time involved leaving one's home and life behind in order to train...and as such, the young Master wanted to take as much of the awkwardness out of the situation! "Where we're heading first is to the Dormitories. We have a quarters already awaiting you. This space is entirely yours, of course."

He then turned so that he looked the man directly where his eyes were supposed to be. "Do you have any questions? I'll be more than happy to answer them."

The man's personality was much different than what he was used to, but, not in a bad way. The work until your fingers bleed, no excuses, mentality was the only thing he had known for so long. Short and curt conversations, minor acknowledgments of his good work, serious talk only was what he knew and what he was used to. So the friendly demeanor that Josiah gave off was somewhat soothing to him.

"I am excited to explore this place," He interjected when Josiah gave him a chance to speak. He was intrigued by the castle and its new age approach to such an ancient building. He was only allowed minor glimpses at the place as they walked around, the nature of his vision made it to where he wanted to inspect everything inside and out, and sometimes that could take hours. "Quite a step up from a tiny cottage on a factory world."

Quarters. It felt like he was going to his barracks again, a small tingling of deja vu washed over him as he marched behind Josiah, memories of his first days in the military began to flood his memories. He guessed this would be similar, though a bit more rigorous, and in that regard he found a bit of solace. Familiarity was nice to him as he was not too big on change.

Questions? He had a million but he did not want to ramble off and look like he had just blindly stepped into a role he was not prepared for. "What exactly are the Templars, more specifically, the Templar Rangers? I know I am force sensitive, I have known for awhile, but how exactly are you different from the Jedi and the Sith?" A basic question but a question that had been on his mind since he accepted the offer of joining this Order.

The first statement had caused the young Master to grin and a small chuckle to escape his lips. It was one born purely of nostalgia, for when Josiah had entered the Sanctum for the first time; he too was overwhelm with the desire to simply explore until he had memorized every single nook and cranny of the ancient structure. Even to this day, there were many things about the Sanctum that the Templar did not know; and this was not due to there being any secrets! This was due to the sheer size of the castle, coupled with his duties as Justiciar. Perhaps, he would have to go exploring the Sanctum at some point with Trevin and see all that there was to see...

However, before the young Master could comment on this train of thought, a question was posed to him. Ah, and what the loaded question it was; the million credit inquiry that could spell a successful recruitment or cause an immediate march back to the landing pad. This, however, was a question that the Templar had once asked the former Archon; and in response he quoted the same answer. Turning his attention to Trevin directly, he began with the recitation of the Templar Code: a doctrine that was relatively unknown to the rest of the Galaxy. In fact, he was certain that, outside of these walls, no one even knew the Templars had a Code!

"We believe in a Galaxy free.
Alone we are Great.
Together we are Greater.
With each day, we shall grow Strong,
And tread the twilite Road to Dawn."

After he was finished, he paused, then began to explain. "The Templars are governed by what we like to call the Five Virtues. This doctrine is epitomized by the Templar Code, which I just recited. Freedom, Individuality, Community, Growth, and Balance. What sets us apart from the Jedi and the Sith is that we want you to experience true freedom, to be who you are and not have to change yourself in the slightest upon entering these doors. The Jedi, speaking from personal experience, while benevolent guardians of the Republic, do expect changes over the course of your training; to mindset and ultimately personality.

And personally, it was this Virtue that recruited me...but I digress. It is the first virtue that also explains why we side so heavily with the Confederacy. Since the day of its formation, the CIS has worked tirelessly to liberate the South from all forms of oppression; and we will continue to do so! The next virtue is individuality. You are your own unique person, your path is your own, and we will never expect you to follow in the shadows of another person. That is what sets us apart from the Sith, amongst several things; as each Master seeks to mold their Apprentices into a similar, or spitting image of themselves.

The third Virtue is community. While we stress the importance of personal freedom and individuality, we do also stress loyalty. Not just to the Templars, not just to the Confederacy, but to those you know and love. Just because you are free and unique doesn't mean you should plant a dagger between your best friend's shoulderblades. Next, there is Growth. There are many ideologies which have characterized the Galaxy, and many have walked through that Gate. Sith, Jedi, Witches, you name it. We want each person who joins our midst to personally grow in their intended path, and then to share with their fellows that Growth. This way, we can grow as a full community, and each person grows stronger from the additional knowledge that is shared.

Lastly, the fifth Virtue is Balance. We do not stress one particular side of the Force, rather we accept all. It is because of this that our Order is balanced, and has three towers within which to meditate. Some may choose to walk the path of the Sun, or the Moon, or the Stars; yet no matter what path they choose, the Order will always have someone of another persuasion to balance the scales. This aside, we desire balance in our daily lives. A time and place for all, etc etc.

Does this sufficiently answer your question? And is there anything else you'd like to know?"

Codes, virtues, and chants were things he had once laughed at. He had always considered himself a free man, a man bound only by his own rules, so the whole unity of the community ideal was almost laughable to him. He didn't need anyone besides himself and he firmly believed that mantra. None the less, he listened to him speak, and the more he talked the more he heard him mention the freedom of individuality. It seemed almost impossible going along with the other virtues, but at the same time, it made sense in a way. They were not Sith nor Jedi, they were free to be what they wanted to be, so long as they obeyed the laws that were set out. There was no black and white, it was only a grey area, and Trevin was free to follow his own free will.

"That's a lot of information to soak up," He chuckled and scratched the bottom of his chin as he let the words ring in his ears. "It definitely answers my question." He wanted to bring up the Sith, the man he wanted dead more than anything, but he held his tongue. He figured it was wise to keep the fact that he wanted to accrue power so that he could one day kill the man who had taken everything from him a secret. Vengeance was a motivation that was best kept secret.

"I guess I am just curious as to when we start?"

"It's quite a mouthful to take in, I'm sure, but I'm glad that it answers your question." came the reply of the young Master with a smile. He continued to guide the man along through the Sanctum, and of course their heading was that of the dormitories. As they moved ever forward, Trevin posed a question about when they would be starting his training, to which Josiah replied, "Once you're all settled in, we can get some basic lessons going immediately. No time like the present!" This, as with most that the Templar stated, was uttered with a genuine smile. It did not take long for them to arrive at the dormitory in question, which had ample sums of space for the new Templar to claim as his own. There was a bed, desk, dressers, and various terminals scattered about:

All the modern admonishments that a man could want!

"Well, here we are, once you're squared away we can get started. Sound good?"
