Rest in Peace - Republic Dominion of New Holstice

New Hope Hospital

Just as other Republic personnel, Sabena was at New Holstice in order to assist the many hospitals on the planet. She was assigned to look over one hospital in particular: New Hope Hospital. It had yet to be ransacked by any thieves or gangs.

Since the Mass Disappearance, Sabena was extremely busy helping the Republic secure the systems surrounding Onderon. She was warned about her increasing fatigue. The advice she got was to take a few days’ rest. Her tiredness showed on her face and in her demeanor. Normally, she seemed to be a very bright and cheerful woman. Such was not the case today. She continued to take on assignments. She said that so long as someone needed her, she would act.

Sitting in the lobby of the hospital, Sabena meditated. She cleared her thoughts. Followed the standard practices of Jedi meditation. Every once and a while, a patient would enter the hospital. Sabena would remain undisturbed as she sat on a bench.

Yet, a group began to gather just outside of the hospital. They numbered about six individuals. Many carried vibroblades. A couple had blasters. Sabena opened her eyes and rose from the bench. The group walked into the hospital.

As this rough-looking group walked into the lobby of the hospital - armed and apparently ready for a fight - Sabena positioned herself in front of them. She stood alone and had a somber look upon her face.

Looking at the group of six before her, Sabena calmly told them, “Welcome. How may I help y̡ou?

Slowly she nodded. Kian was right. Either they would adapt and overcome or they wouldn’t. With time they’d know for certain but for now they would have to endure, it’s what Jedi did wasn’t it? It had started to feel like it and if there was one thing Kana could feel certain of it would be that when this was all over, hell, while it was still going even, the swordsman business would soar. Jedi and sith alike trying to overcome their loss of the force.

“I… It’s a haze.” Kana started upon Kian’s question. “Cries. Whispers. Lost souls wandering aimlessly in ignorant bliss as if they weren’t aware of where they were.”

The images cleared up. “Blood all over. Steaming, boiling, bubbling puddles. There were bridges. I remember Corvus being there with me as we made progress for a sort of puddle. A quick dip, insatiable rage.”

Then the memories hit her again. She covered her mouth and fell back into a horrified realization.

“I killed those men. Alderaan and my home. Everything in ruins, not the same world I loved. A home ripped from me, perverted by the Sith.”

Tears welled up. Arms hugging her legs. The urge to wag back and forth proved hard to resist. What had Kana done? Where had she been? What the hell was going on in the galaxy?

Corvus was confused. One minute she was on a park bench and the next she was in a bed. And she wasn't alone. Was this a dream? Was she going mad? Had the Force finally broken? She'd avoided using the Force since she'd returned to Alderaan and seen how it had been in some way broken. The few times she's tried to use it, it had not acted the way she expected.

Yet her memory was of thinking of her sisters, sitting on a bench and falling asleep. And yes, she was sure she'd awoken. And she'd felt to see if the Force was there. Yes, she remembered that. And the feeling of guilt was there too. She'd hoped it wasn't. But she hadn't used the Force and so this could have nothing to do with any possible reaction.

But she was lying in a bed and...someone was lying next to her. There were no voices in her head - there was no chance this was anything that was left over from the taint she'd suffered on Kashyyk or even the feelings she'd encountered when she'd arrived in Alderaan from that place.

So she looked across. "Who are you?" This was truly surreal.

"Sleep well, pumpkin?" her body was ethereal in nature, " Your sisters are waiting. "

Corvus simply didn't know what to say...

He wandered aimlessly through one of the gardens surrounding the hospital, the wounded and grieving were everywhere it seemed. It had been bad enough when half of the galactic population had vanished, but the wars were another thing. The trauma of loosing friends and family had spurred conflicts that were bloody and savage beyond all measure. The galaxy has lost it's hope, he thought as he noticed a rare Corellian sunflower sitting in a perfectly tended bed of soil. He knew people that had disappeared, everyone had. But unlike everyone else, he didn't lose anyone close. Hell I don't have anyone close to lose. Benny on Nar Shaadda? Bon Panu on Duro? He shook his head, heading for a bench to sit down as he thought about all of his contacts, and realized that he didn't have anyone all that close to worry about losing. Aunt Spia back home? I haven't seen her in almost 20 years. She's as much a stranger as these people here.

He wondered if there was a place to get hammered close by, the last few months had taken their toll on his sanity, not because of the loss of life or the constant war. Those were terrible things that should have been avoided as much as possible. So much for hoping the galaxy would band together in the face of tragedy. It was the realization that he missed it all, he was never an adrenaline junkie, but storming that pirate base was something that he couldn't even describe. He let his mind wander back to all of those times he had ran cargo for the Pubs in war zones, a lot as of late, and he tried to rationalize the reasoning he kept doing it. His mind going in circles trying to discover why he had picked a side after all of these years of staying away on purpose.

He didn't owe them anything, and they always paid for whatever they needed, even when he was being stupid and was willing to do it for free. He needed to find a cantina, badly... Too much time for reflection was a bad thing for someone that spends as much time in their own head as he does. The load master had said that the Ranger would be unloaded and refueled in a matter of hours, which was perfect for him. If he spent too much time in this place he just might drive himself crazy.

Or maybe she hadn't. Maybe she hadn't seen Corvus. Was it someone else?... Probably. Without a word the Zorren pretended to check her datapad before turning, going back into the shadows. If she was wrong... the risk was to great. She couldn't approach someone if there was a chance it wasn't the woman she was looking for! No, there were better ways to spend her time. Like, well... there really wasn't anything she could think of. Talking to the one Jedi she knew seemed like a great idea. Maybe they could discuss what happened outside the rift? Or not. I've been saying that to much lately. Or this. Or that. Or maybe I should just shut up... Her nails dug further into her palms, drawing more blood. Once again the woman didn't care. Nyx focused on sneaking back into the hospital one way or another. At some point she'd need to get a that bacta treatment...

But she'd let her wounds suffer first.

As I got on my speeder to help assist in removing bandits and looters a call on my com frequency came as a surprise to me. I heard my name and responded with "Go ahead commander". About 10 seconds later a female voice came on the com and said "Sorry master Jedi the commander had to step out for a minute but he told me to tell you that looters have been seen at the main hospital...our forces and another Jedi are there and trying to calm the situation". Something about her calling me master Jedi made me smile so I didn't tell her that I was only a apprentice.

I had acknowledged what she had said and replied with "All right I am on my way..tell the Jedi on scene that I am on my way to there position". It was a long shot but I prayed to the all the force we had left that the situation wouldn't get out of hand.

"It was a horrid place." Kian said shaking his head. "But what happened after it was worse. I killed in anger....in rage." Kian said and held his tongue for a moment. He wasn't telling the whole truth . He had gotten past what he had done on Alderaan. It still bothered him, but he was beyond the guilt and shame of it. What he wasn't past was the dreams of Aria that had resurfaced since his time in the darkness.

"I saw Aria there." Kian admitted and he was surprised that he had even been able to admit it out loud. He felt a weight leave him at doing so. He comforted himself with the notion that it was only an illusion....for the thought of his beloved wife in a place like that brought chills to him.

Kian looked away, back at the monument. "Now I keep seeing her in my dreams.....in that horrible place." Kian added, bowing his head in defeat.

Corvus shook her head. She was back on the park-bench again, staring at the hospital. As she did, she was two people leaving the building. Teali and Melori.

She stood. What should she do? Taeli she would have rushed to greet but Melori she couldn't approach. So she watched them as they departed. There was no logic to them being there - but at least she got to see them both. Maybe Teali had organised the visit? It was possible but very unlikely. But they were here - that much was true. As they slowly moved away, her vision was blurred by tears. Unable to use the Force to see if they were still alive, she'd been gifted an opportunity by more mundane means and she felt as if a weight had been lifted from her. More than the Muntuur Stones combined.

Regret. There Kana was all thinking about herself and her past. Clinging to it just like she wasn’t supposed to. In a sense Kian was too, perhaps, but there were some kind of exceptions to that rule, wasn’t there? Having the past make itself reminded and clinging to it was two different things after all.

“I’m so sorry to hear that, Kian.” Kana sighed. “I don’t know what that place was and I don’t intend to find out either. It was a wicked place and that is good enough for me to not contemplate it. In fact anything that is as far from it as possible is good.”

She looked at the glowing pillar of memory moths again. “I left Flint’s name imprinted on one of the moths after the Battle of Kashyyyk.” It was a distant memory. “It just felt right to come back here and make myself reminded of the people who has been lost throughout the ages and not just now.”

“Maybe one day my name will be whispered amongst the rest here; but not until we fix this crisis we’ve got at our hands.”

A great disturbance in the Force...

A rippling so hard it caused Aaralyn to nearly collapse immediately in pain. Her eyebrows would furrow and her mouth would open slightly - a soft grunt escaping her lips as she held her mouth open, holding back what was no doubt cries of pain. Her stomach muscles clenched and clamped down hard. The pain eventually got the best of her and her eyes would begin to water and hands would grasp her stomach as she gazed down, mouth still open in shock.

What was this? A familiar sensation. Mira? Aton?

Her back hit the wall harshly, her body sliding down it as if she were going into labor again. The sensations flooding her body hard all over again, the lights suddenly swirling and her vision blurring from pain. Her arm would reach out, desperately grasping at anything she could clutch - she couldn't cry out through the Force - she couldn't cry out at all. All she could do was feel the pain through her body, her stomach and upper legs.

A solitary gasp of breath came from her and a quick release - then suddenly a vision of a woman walking past her - giving a quick glance. Memories flooding her mind, that flowing purple hair, ruby eyes that were similar to Mira....

No, she was dead....

How could that be? Mother?

Then the pain suddenly stopped and Aaralyn would gasp in relief. She folded over briefly, bringing her knees to her chest as she fought against the residual pain that slowly seeped away. Why had [member="Kryslin Ledias"] come back? How was that possible? Was this linked to the disappearance of the beings across the Galaxy?

Why had her mother's presence effected her in such a way?

Was Mira in danger? Aton?

Questions that burned through her mind as she slowly rose up and looked around the part of the hospital that she was in. Luckily, no one was around to witness this strange event.

Elizie gulped. She never would have doubted the Force before… in fact, she did not doubt it now. She doubted herself. If the Light Side deemed her unworthy, if it deemed every single Jedi unworthy of its guidance, what was her place to question such decision? She could only ponder about the Light Side’s reason for leaving its servants and guardians. They have failed. They must have. It made no sense as she believed the vast majority of Jedi remained true to the Code – except for those Ession extremists, of course. The memory of the speech given by one of the Ession Jedi on Kashyyk, the one about offering no mercy to those who opposed them, still gave her chills. That wasn’t something a real Jedi would have said and it disturbed the girl for quite some time to know she served along people who were not much better than the Sith, maybe even worse. It was one thing to use the Dark Side to kill; it was entirely different to use the Light Side to do the same.

The Padawan appreciated the support of her fellow Padawan, but she really could not rely on others. This was something she had to do by herself. Her gaze hardened as she looked straight into his eyes. “But I have already failed. What I did is unacceptable. When this crisis is over, I will hand in my lightsaber to the Jedi Council and face consequences for my actions. Be it an execution, jail, Agricultural corps. It is the right thing to do. It is what a Jedi should do.” Elizie said, her gaze softening and turning back towards the pillar of light. Standing up, the Arkanian Padawan glanced around, her face expressionless as she took a deep breath.

“Well, let’s do our duty. We won’t help anyone by standing around, Padawan Aureleos.”

What she said caught Uri by such surprise. Yes, he planned to tell the council of what had happened but, he had no plans of giving up the jedi way because of it unless the council believed him to be guilty. He was in a difficult place with the murders he committed, but he knew where he stood with it. He knew how he felt when his blade carved open the neck of the republic soldier.

He stood up shortly after her and put his hand on her shoulder to hold her in place. He leaned in and began to whisper, "How did it feel when you did it? When you took their lives?" He closed his eyes and took a gasping breath accidently blowing in her ear as the face of the soldier he killed flooded his mind again. The haze was lifted from Uri's mind just as his lightsaber reached the soldier. He pushed it back out of his mind. He knew that is wasn't him that killed the men but the corruption of that place that had a hold of him. He opened his eyes again pulling back to where he can see Elizie's face. "I don't know about you, but I can't remember how I felt, but I know that I didn't have control. Something had me. I know because before I... cut the soldier, I was able to pull my hand back. Not far enough but... I know it wasn't me who did it. I wouldn't have tried to heal him is I had. That place used me to kill, but I didn't decided to do it. And that's exactly what I plan to tell the Council when I admit to it."

Corvus laughed at the thought of the Muntuur stones. There was talk of moving the Jedi Academy to Ruusan and there were many voices that championed it. Corvus was neutral at the moment. She saw positives for either site.

And she was still open to the concept of using one of the Jedi Praxeum instead. The hosted the Holocrons from time to time and currently held the few important data files from the Library and the Muntuur Stones themselves. The rest was just bricks and mortar. Memories aplenty but there was no value beyond that.

But Ruusan had a nice ring to it for an historian. For one that loved the period of history of the Army of the Light it couldn't be any better - but she would always go with the majority - that was just her style.

"Miss? Hello? Excuse me, but are you Drapeam Nyx?" Oh chite. Someone had come to get her- of course they had. Did Nyx really think that she could avoid them forever? Well, no, but she figured that she would have made it longer than this. Maybe she could bluff her way out... "Ma'am? Is everything alright? You seem tense and... oh dear, your hands are bleeding! Please, come here, let's get you inside..." The man stepped towards her, placing a gentle (yet firm) hand on her wrist. Her mind was racing, trying to think of any way to get out of this. None came to mind. So she let herself be taken towards the hospital. Part of her could barely hear the nurse talking into some sort of comm, probably announcing her arrival, and telling her something about 'things being okay'. "You're her, aren't you? Nyx?... Oh deary... I've heard you've had quite the day. Don't worry though! You'll be fine. Just fine. We're going to take good care of you."

She wasn't listening. She nodded anyway.

Now awake, the Admiral set about his normal duties before going back to work on the Maelstrom. He was hoping that Tyven would be able to join him to help with matters.

One key innovation he had thought of the night before had been the placement of turrets. Turrets on the top of the superstructure had a 270 degree firing arc. However, he’d gotten thinking about it and came to a revelation. By placing turrets on the bottom of the ship – since it’d never have to land – he could engineer it so it could actually fire behind the ship with some of the turrets! There were virtually no capital ships which could do this, and it would give the Maelstrom a formidable advantage if it was fleeing from danger.

With this piece of design made he settled down to breakfast and to wait for Kayleigh.

Kian picked his head up and smiled at Kana. Her words rung true and Kian was grateful to her in that moment. He was allowing himself to be too drawn into the memories, too caught up in the past. What had he told his apprentice Varus? He needed to learn to let the past go......it was clearly easier to give the advice then to follow it. Kian had followed it for a long time, but the place of shadow and blood had brought them back to the surface.

"Thank you Kana." Kian said and he meant it. Then he reflected on the other part....on the Jedi who they had lost over the years. There were so many of them.

"What's wrong Kana, you don't like the idea of serving the Jedi all wrinkled and old." Kian said grinning broadly beneath the mask and patting her on the shoulder. "I'm sure you do an excellent Yoda impression." Kian added, trying to lighten the mood. But he knew there was something to what she said. With the duties of a Jedi, it was more likely that they would die with their boots on. It wasn't something that kept him up nights and as a Jedi he was willing to die for the right cause, but thinking about ones mortality was never an easy thing.

"'A Jedi does not cling to sorrow, young Padawan. We accept it. Sorrow is a part of life as well as joy. There are gifts to be found, even in death and sorrow…strange gifts. We accept this, we learn, and we go on.'" Kian said turning away from monument and toward Kana. "Plo Koon said that......" Kian said, "It has always brought me comfort."

She wanted to think of something different, keep her mind busy with duty, do what a true Jedi was supposed to do, repent for her crime, anything… except for returning to that moment, what she wanted to bury under her memories as if trying to escape from it when one could not escape their past. There was nothing that could change what she had done, so there was little reason to dwell on the past. In fact, Elizie had already accepted it, making peace with her conscience, but that could not help with the fact she had failed as a Jedi. Lack of self-control, killing in anger, those two became glowing signs to her that she was unfit for active duty. The white-haired girl tried to figure out if she still belonged in the Order or not, balancing on edge. Logic told her the strange portal made her do it, but it was still her body and mind that carried out the deed.

But her fellow Padawan wanted to hear it from her. She didn’t really know what to say. The question just took her back to that fateful moment when she cut her own soldiers down for no reason. Elizie did not want to think of it, but to give Uri the answer he wanted, she had to remember it all. And so the white-eyed Padawan went back to the start where she woke up on Alderaan, the rage and lust for murder already reigning supreme within her body. Then came the slashing, the screams, the pain as she tore through the men, cleaving them into chunks of meat, their deaths like violent explosions in the Force. As the last soldier fell, the top bisected half sliding off the rest of the body and hitting the ground with a wet thump, the thirst for killing was satisfied and vanished.

“I felt nothing. I saw what was going on, but couldn’t really act, didn’t want to act. I have never experienced something like that before. I was just a spectator, trapped in my own body, with no control over my actions. I will tell it to the Council, but it still does not excuse what I’ve done.” The Arkanian said, her face stone as she clasped her hands behind her back.

Kayleigh woke the following morning after finally managing a few hours of restfull sleep. Oh thank you, thank you body for sleeping. Slipping out of her bed she made note of the message from [member="Friedrich Stahlmann"], requesting her company when available. I need a shower. Sorry Stahlmann, I need to take advantage of the luxuries first. And so she hopped in to the hot shower for longer than even remotely necessary. Simply standing underneath the hot water was something she had only dreamed of for what felt like months. Once she finished she quickly grabbed her clothes and dressed in her navy casuals and hurried down the corridors toward both Stahlmann, and nourishment.

Entering she waived to the admiral, sitting down immediately after getting something to eat. "Apologies, I needed to make use of the benefits of being off of a ship for once. What is it you needed me for? I saw something come through regarding a design of sorts, but honestly I was simply too tired to look it over in full yesterday." She smiled as she started in on her food, it was very rare she got to sit and enjoy a meal with someone else, and had never actually sat to simply talk about anything with Friedrich. It was a bit odd, not being in combat with, or for, the other admiral.

New Hope Hospital

One of the six thugs raised a blaster pistol at Sabena.

“Don’t resist and we’ll go easy on you,” he threatened.

Immediately, Sabena drew her lightsaber. A green blade sprang to life. The thug with the blaster pistol fired at Sabena. The second man with a blaster began to fire at Sabena. She blocked the first few volleys. Yet, she then rushed to her left. The proceeding shots trailed behind her path - missing her completely.

“What?” yelled one of the gunmen.

Sabena held her lightsaber low to the ground and by her left hip. One of the thugs rushed for her. He carried a vibrosword. After lifting it up high, the thug slashed toward Sabena’s right shoulder. Even just before the thug made his attack, Sabena’s lightsaber was traveling upward and to her right.

With a single upward slash, Sabena sliced the vibrosword in half. Then, she swung her lightsaber back down. The criminal before her let loose a scream as his hands fell to the ground. He tumbled over and writhed in pain on the ground.

Sabena turned her attention to the rest of the group.

"You didn't do anything... We didn't do anything," Uri spoke sternly trying to convince both of them this is the truth. "They can see and feel how broken the galaxy is right now. They'll know we're telling the truth."

He glanced down. This is what he hoped at least. He didn't wished to be executed or especially exiled. He took a deep breath being mindful of the fear swelling with in him. He had faith that they would be found innocent since they couldn't control themselves, but seeing Elisie now, how she couldn't overcome it, placed a little bit of doubt in his own heart. If they don't believe the story of being body snatched, it worried him that they might say that a murder is a murder. Because Uri and Elizie took the life of others, they must give their own lives in return. He would rather die for his actions than be exiled. He didn't wish to be casted out of the order. He wasn't a sith or dark jedi. He didn't feel the dark side of the force drawing him away from the light. He was so conflicted. Uri planned to tell his master of the predicament first. He knew Corvus could help him make sense of this. He trusted her with his life after all. He trusted her to take his life should he be heading to the dark side.

Uri glanced up at Elizie again remembering her words and then clearing his mind, "Have no doubt. Doubt leads to failure... We should really listen to you. You're very smart and strong." He pat her shoulder lightly then returned his hand to his side.
