Private Rescue at Chandrila

Onderon, many years ago...

A tale is finally finished ...

Nathan had been surprised at Iziz, capital of Onderon, and after killing his way through a city full of Sith and the Knights of Ren to protect a large number of civilians, had found himself at a dig site the imperials had made under a comms tower of all places.

It had led to an ancient chamber which he knew was affecting his mind, for now he was up against a warrior in great silver armor that had light escaping through the joints, battling him with a soft orange lightsaber blade that had flames dancing on the surface.

He fended off the attacks with his Personal Lightsaber, which he did not often like to display of Jedi, wearing what, at the time, had been one of his best armors, with dark blue robes and black plating. The warrior struck with an expert, measured, ferocity. It was a blend of Makashi and Djem So, a hybrid Nathan had rarely encountered but was always deadly. He became much more defensive minded, but started using Niman as opposed to Soresu, because he knew this enemy wasn't going to be one that tired out.

He defended and struck as necessary, and the armored being finally spoke once more.

"You have made errors. Grave errors that cost innocent people their lives. Why do you fight?"

"To atone for those errors..." Nathan answered, fending off a slash.

"A seemingly insurmountable task. Elaine Tear once sought to atone for her errors. And she slipped right back into them once her people 'forgave' her. What is to stop you from doing something similar?"

"Because I don't care if the world thinks I've atoned. I only care whether or not that I know that I have..." Nathan said.

"Atonement is often a subjective thing...what counts as Atonement to you?" It asked grimly as it slammed its blade against his, driving him to one knee.

"I'm not sure yet. I'll know when I see it..." Nathan answered back honestly. "I think it's putting an end to the Cult. But I ain't sure. So I fight...until I am..."

"A refusal to give up...such an attitude is very conducive to atonement...but is that enough for one who has made so many mistakes?" The armored figure asked as Nathan rolled out of the way of the next strike.

"What's it to you?" Nathan asked, guarding...

"All who wield what we once used become a part of it in some way. It only comes to those who have erred severely enough to warrant its magnificent power.

The silver armored warrior rushed him, battering his defenses in every style. Nathan defended in every style in response, until he missed a strike and had his lightsaber knocked from his hand.

"Your atonement has failed..." The armored warrior said, pointing the soft orange lightsaber blade at his throat.

"Like I said..." Nathan replied. "I don't care if the world thinks I have. I only care whether or not I know."

He rushed forward, dodging the strike and drop kicking his attacker, teleporting his own lightsaber into his hand.

"And I'll never give up until I know. And maybe not even then..." Nathan added, redoubling his attacks as the warrior rose. He resorted to pure Shii-Cho to attack his opponent from all angles until he finally disarmed him with a heavy blow to his blade--

--and then shut off his own lightsaber.

"I do not require or want whatever power you are offering. I'm leaving..." Nathan said. "Where is the exit?"

The silver armored warrior stood straight, arms folded.

"It is the one who neither wants no requires such power that is often the one who needs it most. There will come a time you will need it. But that time is not today. Nevertheless..." The warrior trailed, erupting in flames like the rest of the stone circle they had fought on, before Nathan opened his eyes to find himself inside a small, burnt looking chamber with a small pit in front of him.

Nathan stared down, seeing a small, teardrop-shaped crystal with orange bands, a soft orange light dancing within...

"That power is now yours for when that time comes..." The Warrior's voice said in his head.

Nathan bent down, eyes widening in shock when he realized what he was staring at.

"It can't be..." he trailed picking it up...

"It's...It's the Furnace of Ession!" he exclaimed...

He immediately pocketed it. He still needed to get those civilians off planet. But he was in deep shock...

Present: En route to Chandrila in: Keren-Class Corvette (Lysandra's Reckoning)

Wearing: Kenobi-Pattern Jedi Armor (Black robes, blue armor plating)

Jedi Temple Guard Mask (Cortosis Weave Durasteel, black color)

Chandrilla was now in the domain of the Empire, but Nathan wasn't going to let that stop him.

He was conducting his own search for the Imperial Superweapon, independent of the efforts of Henna Ashina Henna Ashina and Romi Jade Romi Jade , refusing to trust visions. He would only accept hard, actionable intel.

Searching for the weapon, he believed, would be a relatively simple brute force process of elimination. The one place the weapon had to be was a planet in the deep core, and Nathan had sent his best spies out to seek it at great risk to themselves.

Why he was heading to Chandrila was because of the Crystal Canyons. The Force Crystals known to be there, as well as being the location of the third Barsen'thor's Tomb, would make it a tempting target for the Sith to try and locate and secure, the Force Crystals in particular, in case Solipsis had designs to incorporate them into whatever weapon he was making. (Nathan was guessing it to be a super laser, as this tracked with the last two superweapons Solipsis had made. He might even be trying to build something akin to Starkiller Base, but in a much smaller package).

He was also there on something of a rescue mission. Evidently, some Lightsworn Jedi had gotten the same idea about how the canyons might be mis-used. But they had been spotted and now a team of inquisitors was hunting them rather ruthlessly along with a full company of Stormtroopers. He had asked Feng Huang Feng Huang who had fought at the Lightsworn Attack at the Space Port to accompany him after catching her in action. Others might look down on her eagerness and aggressive nature. Nathan saw it as a bonus, provided it could be properly mastered into something that could protect the innocent and defeat the Sith. Nathan cared more about results and didn't nitpick much about means so long as the Dark Side was not used.

You have to have people who are moral. Who at the same time are able to utilize their primordial instincts in order to kill without feeling. His father told him in his youth.

(Cutaway of Captain Willard rising out of the mud in Apocalypse Now)

Nathan was in the meditation chamber of the ship. Nathan normally never meditated, considering it a waste of time. However, the mission was serious enough that it warranted finally deploying that which has rested so long in his private chambers in his mobile headquarters.

It rested next to two other crystals and the saber components necessary. One was a Plague Ankarres, the other was a blue Mestare Crystal.

He had no idea what would happen or would result from the effects. What he knew of the Furnace of Ession was hearsay, second hand knowledge. It was a relic virtually forgotten in the modern era. And it was not for lack of trying to discover more information on his part.

He closed his eyes and focused, feeling every part, including the terrible power of the Furnace and telekinetically lifted all the components up, fusing the electrical components together on the molecular level for maximum power efficiency. He had many blades, for many purposes. But it was his first time constructing a curved hilt Lightsaber.

The silvery object hummed silently with the dangerous power within, and Nathan activated it, the soft orange blade hissing out of the hilt. He tested the swing, noticing that due to the sheer power of the primary crystal, the swing and thrust was slightly slower than normal, meaning he would have to compensate with body enhancement powers. He shut it off, and switched to the secondary setting, the Plague Ankarres. The dull gray blade slid out. It swung normally. He shut it off and switched to the Mestare Crystal Setting and a sky blue blade slid out. He shut it off and left it on that setting after a few practice swings. He needed to know how the Furnace's meer proximity would affect the other crystals before he tried to figure out the primary settings full capacity.

He exited the meditation chamber.

"Padawan Huang?" He called out, wearing the black temple guard mask.

"We are nearly there. Have you prepared yourself?" he called out, looking for her.

Feng breathed deep steadying her breath, she worked through some basic kata's her own blend of Shien and Makashi. Feng believed balancing the forms made up for the weaknesses of both. Makashi wasn't strong against blaster fire or multiple opponents. Shien was vulnerable to single opponents and lightsaber combat. Feng delicately adapted the forms one movement was a high fencing move, the next a reverse grip Shien deflecting a blaster bolt. Feng used to wish she could have the kind of mastery of martial arts her Master Wuxia Wukong Wuxia Wukong displayed, but she had grown to accept that that wasn't her path. She still believed in improving her form as much as possible, she just also believed in diversifying her skills like her ones as a pilot.

As her jedi trials approached Master Wu was allowing her more and more independent missions. When Master Bloodscrawl had offered her a spot on this mission, Feng of course had leapt at the chance. Nathan Bloodscrawl Nathan Bloodscrawl was a legend in his own right as far as Feng was concerned, plus they shared a passion for ships.

Feng had been grateful when Master Bloodscrawl had allowed her to dock her eta 2200 Jedi Interceptor the Lightning Bolt. Feng was hoping she could show off her modification to speed she had made making it fast enough to be a racer starfighter.

Feng would love to chat about ships with Master Bloodcrawl while accompanying him on this mission.

Feng realised her form had gotten sloppy while she daydreamed about ships, she redoubled her concentration. Restraining herself from harshly reprimanding herself, but merely reminding herself to focus on the present moment.

Feng finished the set she had designed herself, relaxed her folded arms and bowed to her invisible opponent. It seemed silly to do so, but she had been doing it since Master Wu was a child and had impressed upon her the importance of respecting your sparring partner. At first Feng had bowed even when doing kata's alone so as not to break the habit. Now she thought of it as respecting herself.

Feng looked around the hangar wondering if she should meditate by going over the Lightning Bolts systems. Again some people found it odd that she would train in a hangar, but to Feng it had always been a more relaxing space than a training room. Besides the real world environment assisted with her preparations of real world situations. She checked the flight path on her holopad and realised they were almost there.

Feng grabbed a towel realised it was a grease towel just after she'd wiped her face with it. Feng made a face, she grabbed her gym towel to wipe off the sweat and now grease. Making her way to the meditation chamber, Feng just hoped she'd gotten all of the oil smudges off of her face.

"Yes Master Bloodscrawl I am ready." Feng greeted the Jedi Knight just in time.

Feng dropped in beside the Jedi Knight, and chewed her lips.

Krak it. She thought to herself.

"Master Bloodscrawl what's your favourite ship?"

Nathan blinked at the question asked by Feng Huang Feng Huang

"I've always been rather fond of the A-Wing. My father taught me to fly one when I was a teenager. They're a pain to upkeep but if it's properly done you can fly circles around other Interceptors. It's a good way to focus the Force within you as you work on it." Nathan answered her. Feng was enthusiastic. And they both shared a like for starships.

"I also have one of the very same Interceptors... Been working on making modifications to it, as I see you have. Bit of a racer, aren't you?" Nathan asked. Huang was the young rebellious type trying desperately to conform. He understood the internal frustrations he sensed within her.

"Oh, and, uh, you got a little bit of grease on your face." He added gently, trying not to tease her.

He gestured for her to follow him to the cockpit, explaining more of the mission in detail.

"Padawan, Chandrila is well into the Imperial Sphere of Influence. What we are attempting will be an extremely dangerous, high risk rescue operation. I believe our compatriots may have uncovered the tomb of the Third Barsen'thor', an ancient Warden of The Jedi Order. They played a pivotal role in an ancient war with the Sith, not entirely unlike the one we find ourselves in currently." He said to her. "The Sith will no doubt attempt to harvest the crystals here for some dread purpose. But that tomb, if our compatriots really have uncovered it, is by far the larger threat we have to suppress if it's come to that. We cannot permit that tomb to be defiled by the Dark Lord's forces if it can be helped..."

They finally reached the cockpit where two of his sisters, Melissa Bloodscrawl Melissa Bloodscrawl and Meleena Bloodscrawl Meleena Bloodscrawl were in the cockpit, with Melissa piloting. Both wore matte black reflec coated skintight Catsuits .

"We've entered Chandrila's space, Nate..." Melissa said.

"Take us down..." He ordered.

The fully stealthed Corvette set down on on the planet after a few minutes, close to the canyon.

"Huang, stick with me at all times...our priority is searching for signs of the Lightsworn Team. Their last transmission indicated they were being hunted. We will be heavily outnumbered. We must strike only when appropriate.

"Meleena, you will be searching for signs of crystal harvesting while we look for survivors... Melissa, take off as soon as we are off the ship."

Nathan and Meleena then led the way out of the exit hatch into a rocky desert area, with large growths of growing blue crystals. They hand landed on a small plateau above the canyon itself...and small Imperial vessels could be seen.

Nathan decided to test her tactical acumen.

"Tell me what you see, Padawan...what are we up against...and how would you infiltrate?"

Feng nodded eagerly.

"I like A Wings! Me and some of the other padawans had a race in them one time! I won barely even though they said I cheated! I didn't cheat I swear it! They were just a bunch of sore losers!"

Feng's face went from eager to scowling as she finished her run on sentence. Feng blushed as she realised that perhaps admitting to a Jedi Master that the Padawans had snuck out and held a race with A Wings wasn't the most wise or mature thing to do.

Feng cleared her throat awkwardly.

"Anyway I like A Wings, but they're shields are a little weak. It's why I chose the Eta, so I could modify it myself. Though I had to strip some of the defences like the flares, 29 l ECM Package and the Burner Deflector Shield. Extra hyperfuel line injectors, and boosters."

"Not that I use Hyperfuel in my races! I'm no cheat
!" Feng hurried to assure Master Bloodscrawl.

Great. Last thing I needed. Now he'll think I'm some no good rotten dirty scoundrel cheat" Feng thought to herself dejected her shoulders slumping a little.

Her embarrassment turned to mortification when Master Bloodscrawl pointed out she had grease on her face. Feng hurried rubbed her face with her sleeve, stopping for a moment to check in a shiny panel in the hallway that it was gone, before hurrying to catch up with the master.

Feng recovered from her embarrassment as she was given a mission report. She resisted the silly urge to stand at attention and salute. Master Wu was disciplined, but when it came to formality, beyond the terms of respect and the occasional bowing mostly during lessons or training, he was rather more lax then more military minded Jedi. Feng wasn't sure what the proper protocols here were. Should she bow, salute, stand attention or merely nod?

Focus Feng. The formality means nothing if you get us both killed.

"Master Bloodcrawl do we have any intelligence on what we are facing? How many? What troops or divisions of imperial forces we'll be facing? If they have any reinforcements nearby beyond the ground troops?"
Feng asked thinking of pertinent questions as they came to her. "Or at the very least what they might want with the tomb? If we know what they're after we might have a tactical advantage. If it's research they may have scientists with them meaning either less troops if there's only one ship or more troops if they've brought extra guards for the scientists in additional ships."

"Though I wouldn't put just wanting to destroy a sacred site past those sleemos"
Feng added with a scowl.

"Hi!" Feng greeted the two sister brightly and waved with a big grin on her face. Feng tended to get awkwardly enthusiastically nervous when meeting new people.

Feng nodded in acknowledgement of the seriousness of the situation. Lives were on the line. The Lightsworn were their brethren. Even though Master Wu disapproved of their methods. Feng rather admired them, though she found them a bit daunting and intimidating. Still she had fought beside them and they needed help.

Not that it means they are more worthy of help than others just because they're Jedi. Feng reminded herself gently

"Three Imperial shuttles. Twenty passenger's each plus pilot and co pilot. Possibility of sixty six ground troops most likely less. A platoon at most, plus whatever engineers or scientists they might need while desecrating the tomb. Shuttles mean a larger vessel nearby."

"Should we have the Lysandra scan for nearby ships?"
Feng asked uncertain and nervous that she had been asked for a plan of attack.

"Uhm" Feng hesitated uncertain.

"Well I don't suppose we can just kill the outer guard." Feng muttered frowning as she considered the problem growing a little frustrated before she remember Master Wu's advice when being given a puzzle.

Feng closed her eyes breathed deep and analyzed the situation. Jedi never sought to take life lightly, yet they needed to approach the crystal caves without raising the alarm. Feng's eyes snapped open

"Force cloak?" Feng asked with trepidation unsure if she had the skill under pressure. She had only done it as light hearted pranks. It was only now that she realised Master Wu had been training her in the ability disguised as a game. Trusting in Master Wu's training if not her own ability.

"Force cloak." Feng said with more surety.
