Rekindle | CIS Dominion of Druckenwell

R E K I N D L E

Once, Druckenwell prospered.

An accord was formed with the old Confederacy - a deal which saw the planet's shipyards transformed into the center of all naval power. The whole of the Confederacy's armada was born above the distant world; and the benefits of this commerce rained down upon the people. There was never a shortage of work. There was never a shortage of opportunity. Yet, that all changed when the Omega Protectorate invaded. Overnight, the peace of Druckenwell was shattered and her prized shipyards came crashing down upon the planet's surface.

And though meager efforts to rebuild were made by the Protectorate conquerers, Druckenwell was never the same.

With the fall of both the old Confederacy and the Protectorate came a newfound challenge for the former, industrial giant. They were alone in an ocean of competitors: a planet which lived and died by its Shipyards now had no one to support. No one to build for. No means of providing for the billions living below. Druckenwell fell upon hard times - a Depression ravaged its economy, the most skilled of her people began to depart for opportunities elsewhere...it seemed as though there was no end in sight for their suffering.

But the Confederacy returned and they remembered.

As the spread of their ideals worked ever northward, an olive branch was extended to the distressed world. An offer to rekindle the oaths of old and to bring true restoration to Druckenwell. But...there was hesitancy on the part of the native population; rightfully so. To re-enter the fold would certainly bring about a boon to their economy, but what happens if the Confederacy falls again? What happens if avarice marches on Druckenwell again? Would they be empty again? Would they be subject to the suffering of their previous years?

Thus, a middle ground had to be reached. Re-entry with assurances that their plight would never again repeat. To this end, an opportunity was presented to the native population: a Trade Convention open to the Galaxy. Sponsored by the Confederacy, corporations far and wide could come and form relationships with new customers - and Druckenwell. In doing so, even if the worst happened, the planet would never find itself bereft of all support. In doing so, Druckenwell would gladly restore its place among the Confederacy.

Now, just before noon would the main hall be open to the public. The towering doors of the Il Avali Industrial Complex slid open to reveal the plethora of booths belonging to numerous corporations. The avid buyer might browse each stall and purchase wares on display - or better yet sign a contract for services in the future.

Where there was commerce, the Red Ravens were sure to follow. The booth they put up for the event was a highlight of most of their products from raw ores, to fine jewelry, weapons of various makes (naturally deactivated for display purposes) to the most advanced droids and pleasurebots. There was something for everyone, no matter what their inclinations.

Those with more discrete needs were attended to by over dozens of Raven Specialists who were cordial and more than happy to assist in any way.

Blending into the crowd were Raven Secret Buyers, a team of elite members who job was to test the service level provided by front line agents. Their identities a secret to protect the integrity of their work.

Word of the Confederacy approaching Druckenwell was an opportunity that Cady had to take to further her business. There was a convention stirring and Cady would be bringing her A-game for it. She had just acquired a new business venture she was eagerly waiting to share throughout the galaxy: the Galactic Shockball League, a sports league that was once a galactic sensation long ago. It's revival was depending on Cady. She would not fail.

She approached the CEO's entrance of the complex and was stopped by security. She showed them her badge and she was then allowed entry. She had an outfit tailored by her people at Lucid Luxuries specifically for this event. Cady walked with a few of her associates from the GSL including some coaches from established teams, financial advisers, and realty specialists. She had come prepared to make a statement in this part of the galaxy. It was only up to the Confederacy to accept her business.

Cady was lucky enough to secure a rather large booth in order to fully express the GSL's worthiness to the public. She hired workers to work overnight to make her booth the most stunning and appealing to the public. There were huge holograms of famous shockball players, visual representations of shockball fields currently established in the galaxy, datapads of current economic benefits the GSL has granted to other worlds it has brought it's business to, and even a virtual reality room so people can experience playing shockball themselves. It may have been a bit much but it would be worth it in the end.

"Lady Arwyn, we have everything prepared as you commanded." a worker reported to Cady. She patted his should and smiled at him before he walked away with the other workers.

"It's showtime." she uttered, looking about at the other booths.

Chikako always preferred worlds to come under rule of the CIS by peaceful means, though probably taking a bit longer then annexation it prevented possible destruction and future rebellion and in this case said diplomacy was limited due to the planets acceptance because of past history. This combined with the multitude of business associates making things all the easier for herself as a representative/ambassador to the new resurgent Confederacy.

As such talks had been short, leaving way for a more extravagant then usual party, something the young Duchess was more then eager to attend, but that was not all. Despite still being a child and untrained in the ways of ruling the Echani noble still aspired to reclaim her old house, completing her mothers work to unite all the house into an Empire with herself enthroned as is empress, as such getting acquainted with some ship manufactures would be of upmost importance for future events.

Flanked by her usual displacement of Jedi body guards, wearing an innocent smile across her youthful face Chikako made her way slowly into the Main Hall, having VIP access to the many booth present due to her noble stature and designation as a diplomat. "Now boys, I maaaaaaay act all silly and billy most of the time, but today is strictly business, so if I try to run off and do something stupid like always you have my permission to stop me... you hear that, you can finally do something besides just sighing and face palming, is not that great"? "Anyways, where to first".

The King of Ergonomic Assessments
Even though the Sith Inquisitor had the word Sith in its name, today's SI was most famous for selling... ergonomic assessments; its media market share in the Caldera was just a secondary claim to fame by now. He knew that Druckenwell's future required its workforce to be working in safe and healthy workplaces, so he traveled from Chokan, where he finally completed a set of ergonomic assessments himself, to peddle more ergonomic assessments. The Confederates will be hard clients here; they mostly used droids for the more menial labor, so the more creative work that needed sentients will definitely make use of those assessments. Already he knew that the more likely clients to take up ergonomic assessments were those that took the long view. He had to make sure he had the presentation of the benefits of ergonomic assessments at the ready. He knew as well as anybody in the business of workplace health and safety that there was more to employee morale than WH&S but an unsafe or unhealthy workplace would definitely eat into employee morale and productivity even though they chewed through either item in different ways. Once the stall goes live:

"Increased productivity, decreased absenteeism, decreased medical expenses: better safe than sorry with ergonomic assessments!"

Location: Il Avali Industrial Complex, Helix Syndicate Booth
Objective: Sneer

The Syndicate's booth was far from the most populated or most obvious. The Helix Syndicate was a largely autonomous corporation. It did not need to mingle with other companies and enterprises in order to get ahead. Its expansion had been one borne out of its own singular efforts. There were no bright displays or obnoxious banners, just a few Syndicate Enforcers and a few representatives. The people who came to the Syndicate to get things done did so because the Syndicate got things done. Money problems? People problems? Information problems? The Syndicate took care of it and, if the price was right, no questions were asked.

There was no need for grandiose displays. People came to Tytos. Tytos did not come to them.

Except for this one time, apparently.

A sinister looking Trandoshan accompanied Tytos as his bodyguard, following closely as the Umbaran made his way through the crowds and back to the Syndicate's booth. [member="Darth Metus"] had invited them here because Darth Metus, presumably, wanted something done for him. The construction of a booth had been pure courtesy. Tytos did not expect many other people would be drawn to the Syndicate's innocuous slice of ball room territory. But that didn't mean Tytos wouldn't pass by the other displays, see what was going on.

"The Red Ravens have a booth. Did you see that?" Tytos sneered, recalling the ore samples. Clumps of dirt. What nonsense. When Derrenger said nothing, he continued. "I can't imagine what barrel they had to be scraped out of to be brought here. Pathetic."

Again, Derrenger said nothing. Always such a responsive audience, that one. Still a great deal more preferable to Grigori. The pair continued forward, heading back to the booth where they would await Metus' arrival.

The importance of an opportunity for diplomacy over war was certainly not lost to Malus, but perhaps if he were mistaken for one of those simpleton Sith some may think otherwise. He responded to his thought with a light scoff, thinking of those supposed "Sith Lords" that let their passion get the better of them. Joining the CIS was perhaps the best decision he had ever made, and on top of that the economy was booming.

There were plans of his own, of course, to establish a company. Funds were not an issue, but he wanted to make sure things were planned right before it happened. Fear of war was profitable enough on its own for companies these days, but he had more ideas in store.

As he stepped into the building, Malus was pleased to see that the Trade Convention was bustling with activity. Getting to know information about other businesses was good enough, but he was also excited to be here as a customer.

The Red Raven Booths were a bustling hive of activity, as each merchant tried to outdo the others with their displays. There was even from free entertainment as jesters in gaudy color outfits walked among the guests, performing all sorts of deeds of illlusion and amusement. Hawkers freely distributed baubles like snow globes of exotic places, commemorative die cast metal medallions, and vouchers for Red Raven give aways like baskets of fresh produce and credit prizes.

Chikako was slightly overwhelmed by the shear amount of companies and business me present at the convention, the place full of booth for their respective owners, in some cases the actual boss being present, which just showed the magnitude of the convention. "Wow, so many places, where do I begin", 'no think about this logically, where would someone trying to increase their power and influence start, weapons businesses maybe hmmmm'. If she learned about anything of the gun trade and under world in her brief travels around the galaxy before regaining her lost memories it was that Helix industries and their own manufactures produced a great deal of good, from small arms to huge ships.

If any company was going to help her reclaim the Echani throne and construct her own empire it would be the Helix Industry and their endless supply of weapons and ammunition to go along with it, "Men, to the Helix company booth we go, just don't tell anyone about this, itssssss a seeeeeeeeeeeecret, got that". A round of nods from her guard detail was all she needed to start happily skipping towards the booth occupied by [member="Tytos Ardik"], the Trandioan on watch not bothering her, Chikako had seen worse, and killed worse.

From experience, the Jawa knew most Sith, or heck, even non-Xi Charrian people in general, would not even hear about ergonomic assessments before they are required to do so, so he tried hard not to scream Utinni when the customers that came to him asked questions that were, in his eyes, rather trivial to answer. And Force forbid, Xi Charrian ergonomic assessors often needed protocol droids when dealing with non-Xi Charrian clients. His staff, comprising a mixture of Xi Charrians and non-Xi Charrians, was busy answering all questions they might have about ergonomic assessments, its benefits and costs, and invariably the group and bulk discounts are brought up for those who ran businesses that needed or wanted some. Perhaps [member="Darth Malus"] would actually get to his booth for what he knew, but any visitor to business conventions would realize that ergonomic assessments stick out like a sore thumb. He even had a holovid about the whole process of ergonomic assessments, filmed in Ziost's headquarters as the Sith Inquisitor's very own offices are subjected to ergonomic assessments on holovid. Furniture positioning, lighting, noise were major items that were assessed without fail.

It was rare Natasha could feel regret from the AI in her head. But as she walked around the back of the Vitae Industries booth, small as it was, with the pile of cybernetic examples on the table for the consumers to view, and the medical supplies and occasional stims on the other end, she knew what he was thinking. We did this. His voice was a surprise to her. He normally didn't talk like this. Never really opened up. Cal, Galaar, the Dreadguard, all of us. We caused this. She shook her head, He would be like this for a while. Not much she could do about it.

Not much could be said for what they could do here. Production facilities? It wasn't a factory world, but it certainly wasn't a slouch industrially. With the right talks with the right people, they could perhaps get a lab going. Who knows? It may turn out to be a good day after all. At least for her. S.T.R.A.S.K. would probably stay mopey all day long. But she could deal with that.

At first glance the figure who walked into the booth bore nothing out of the ordinary, save for the fact he was a Zabrak and his business suit, made from the finest scarlet shimmersilk, could easily purchased a small moon. Upon previewing the product line, Daxton spoke with one of the representatives and asked if they were willing to accept a commission to install their product for an entire bridge of an unspecified ship.

[member="Natasha Darkstar"]

A representative from the Red Ravens approached the booth to inquire for more specfics on their product line, specifically the cybernetics as well as the array of stims. Depending on the products available, it could possibly be a series of high volume medical purchases in the future..

The King of Ergonomic Assessments
"Utinni! Ergonomic assessments are still useful onboard a ship, but you want an ergonomic assessment for a ship's bridge" the Jawa told the Zabrak called [member="Daxton Bane"].

By now Klesta was experienced enough in the field, in how to actually get ergonomic assessments done, to know and understand that an ergonomic assessment was a service and he could tell by the Zabrak's speech that an ergonomic assessment was a good or product to his eyes. Plus a ship's bridge usually had enough stations for a group discount, but only the very largest, usually the command ships expected to regularly lead fleets into battle, would have enough stations for a bulk discount. That was one of the more... unpleasant parts of the job. He realized that the assessments themselves are only the tip of the iceberg; the Xi Charrians knew that it was all the extra stuff done outside of the assessments proper that made the difference in whether or not the assessments would actually be effective. That very stuff he realized just now that could make or break an ergonomic assessor's career. For a former senator that championed transportation dossiers in the Senate, he realized that perhaps getting the Red Ravens to buy ergonomic assessments from him to get help designing the bridge was not that different from the transportation issues he had to deal with.

"What an ergonomic assessment will do to a ship's bridge is to determine whether or not the bridge stations are safe and healthy for its crew to work in. In essence it's a specific maintenance check"

[member="Klesta"]

“I understand. I also understand that what you offer can increase efficiency and productivity, which greatly interests the Red Ravens. We control a vast merchant fleet and we are interested to see if your product would help us increase our profit margin. To this end, we are interested in negotiating a contract for one of our heavy cargo freighters.”

“If we determine that this does increase our profit margin, we would be willing to extend this upgrade for our entire merchant fleet of roughly a hundred freighter class ships of various designs.”

Klesta

The King of Ergonomic Assessments
"Exactly how ergonomic assessments actually increase productivity is more about reducing healthcare expenditures and the resulting absenteeism, and also reducing the occurrences of work accidents"

Yes, he was touting an increase in productivity, just that not everybody readily understood that high absenteeism or chronically sick crews were lowering productivity. Of course, he knew that people called in sick for malicious reasons, but ergonomic assessments would help reduce the legitimate injuries. Reduce the amounts of work accidents and work-related injuries, to the extent it was possible without changing the routes flown; then again, he knew since he served in the then-GR Senate that WH&S in a shipboard context depended on how often ships entered combat, along with a few navigational hazards. He also realized, and [member="Daxton Bane"] probably would, that, if one was flying cargo routes, R&R was fairly straightforward: if Star Tours was any indication, stopovers were the crucial points where to drop off injured crewmembers and pick up healthier ones. But in combat, it was much more irregular: one could get six weeks of leave and then enter the fray for indeterminate periods of time, especially if one was operating warships doing something other than escort duty.

"Sounds good. One ship with options on the remainder, at bulk discount rates"

[member="Klesta"]

“Excellent. Just a few minor details before we sign the contract. First all work would be done at one of our secure shipyard facilities, you staff would be provided with all their needs within reason, plus we would pay a bonus on top of the cost of the installation fees. In return, for the duration of the modifications, they cannot make contact outside the facilities. Second, they cannot make copies of any plans or blueprints of what they experience while they are at a Red Raven facilties or craft. Our work relies on discretion and efficiency, so we cannot afford to compromise either. Third all materials you will bring in from the outside would need to undergo through inspection prior to installation. This inspection will be conducted by a joint commitee comprised of Red Ravens and the host of our space facilities. If you have no problems with these terms, we just have to settle on the price.”

Cady smiled at each one of the patrons who decided to stop at her booth and experience what she had to offer. The kids took pictures with the mascots, the teens tried out the VR, and the adults spoke with the coaches about the sport. She could almost see the League growing from the baby she had it as now into a full fledged adult.

As Cady finished speaking with one of her coaches, she spotted the Helix Syndicate's booth down the hall. Her eyes found [member="Tytos Ardik"] eventually and an idea popped into her head. She made sure that her people were good without her and she walked over to the Syndicate's booth. She did her best to avoid to white haired girl and her band of guards and walked up to Tytos. "Hello," she began, "Are you Tytos Ardik. The Tytos Ardik?" Cady did her best to feign a sense of starstruck as she walked up to him. Perhaps it would make her appear more knowledgeable of him and what he does. "It certainly is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Cadyssia Arwyn. I'm the commissioner of the new Galactic Shockball League. I was wondering if we could talk."

"All we need is usually standard shipyard equipment, plus perhaps some tools such as a soundmeter and a luminometer. Other than that, we shall keep no copies of plans or schematics"

A classified project for which the ergonomics are handled by the SI, he thought, while he seldom had the chance to work on anything remotely resembling secrecy, much less top-secret level, and [member="Daxton Bane"] described a top-secret project, at least as he understood the GR's statutes of secrecy from the time he served in the Senate. But the paper trail shall simply consist of a bill to an undisclosed client, because he was still legally obligated to keep records of transactions, at least of when and for how much. Yet the Xi Charrian staffer next to him started thinking of who could benefit from such a leak as the Zabrak started fearing such leaks to occur. But the Xi Charrian's mind was too busy with the thought of how such a leak would affect the conduct of future ergonomic assessments, while Klesta was about to draft the terms and conditions of a contract that he has to run through Daxton before he could actually sign it. After all, if there was a term to which he did not agree, it could derail the entire deal, and that he knew all too well; he added one last condition to allow secrecy and what to do in a breach of secrecy.

"As a result, a security deposit equal to the bulk discount is required, and the security deposit shall be forfeited if any leak occurs"

While loitering about at his own booth, Tytos happened to spot [member="Chikako Liona"] moving towards him with a large escort. When one of the support staff manning the booth noticed Tytos narrowing his eyes disapprovingly, he decided to fill him in. "That's Lady Liano coming this way."

"That is a small child," Tytos observed, sounding as though he disproved.

The employee shrugged. "That too, I guess."

Tytos was still debating reproaching his employee for speaking so casually when [member="Cady Arwyn"] appeared. Without a huge security escort, he missed her completely. But that hardly seemed a good excuse. She was... Striking, to say the least. Which meant if she had meandered over here to bother a decrepit antique of an Umbaran such as himself, she had business. Fortunately she wasn't just a pretty face - Commissioner of the Galactic Shockball League sounded at least moderately important.

"I am," he said cautiously, reluctant to believe he was much of a household name outside of the Alignment or Bakura. Tytos shook her hand regardless and added, "A pleasure. What would you like to discuss?"

Drukenwell's orbit, once dominated by imposing shipyards, now bore a new station.

The Chiron hung low in orbit for all to see, advertising its presence to the inhabitants and encouraging them to come aboard. The station had been in orbit for some time now, since Alistair had heard about the large trade convention that was taking place planetside and saw an opportunity. The convention was were he was now infact, slowly pacing the open halls, keeping a keen eye on the copious booths that surrounding him.

He had his own booth representing Myre Productions & Services, run and managed by its own capable team that set up as soon as the event had begun, showcasing the odds and ends he had began to produce recently in an attempt to give his fresh company the jump-start it needed. However, he saw another opportunity here. Keenly aware of the Confederacy's presence lately, he'd been informed that they would be making a rather large appearance at the convention.

Alistair had been toying at making contact with Confederacy representatives lately in an effort to establish some form of official deal with them in regards to the Chiron and his company, and today might just be the right time to do it. Making his way through the crowds of locals and tourists alike, all basking in the atmosphere of a city market, but one that was so much larger, he strolled towards the general area he'd seen the Confederacy's recognisable faces, intent on striking up a conversation with whoever would lead him the highers-ups at the convention here today.
