STRENGTHS
  • Anti-Capital: Designed to strike against capital ships in orbit over a planet, the anti-orbital cannon fires three consecutive hypervelocity slugs one after the other to batter down deflector shields, bust through the hull, and cause rapid decompression and devastation.
  • Long-Range: The advanced targeting suites in the cannon allow for it to hit any capital ship in a large radius around the planet it's stationed on. However, the further away a target is the more likely their chance of evading the attack is.
WEAKNESSES
  • Stationary: The anti-orbital cannon is built in a fixed location, and cannot be moved without near total disassembly. This makes it the perfect target for enemy bombers and orbital bombardment, necessitating its heavy defenses.
  • Targeting Speed: Because the cannon is so massive, it takes quite a bit of time for it to not only calculate the most precise assault vector but also to rotate and angle the barrel into position. Nimbler ships can maneuver out of its line of sight before the cannon can fire.
DESCRIPTION

Protecting some of the Sith Empire's most important planets, including it's pair of capitals, are massive fleets capable of blotting out the system's star, legions of soldiers and armored vehicles that stretch across the horizon as far as the eye can see, and battlements of imposing permacrete and durasteel that can withstand sustained orbital bombardment.

However, the sight of massive hypervelocity cannons larger than most buildings reminded native inhabitants of the Empire's ability to protect and destroy anyone foolish enough to attack their most fortified worlds.

Designed to specifically target enemy capital ships in orbit, the Empire's anti-orbital cannons fired bursts of super-accelerated solid slugs, three at a time. The first slug would penetrate the capital ship's ray shields, battering the particle shields down in preparation for the second slug to either continually weaken or rupture the particle shielding around a specific point. The third and final slug would either smash into the capital ship's hull, rupturing it and causing depressurization, or continue to deal damage against the already battered particle shields.

To open fire on enemy ships, the particle shields surrounding the hypervelocity cannon would have to be lowered to allow the hyper-accelerated slugs to bypass the ray and ion shields. This was considered a vital window as enemy bombers could exploit this brief moment to attack the cannon emplacement.
