GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Raykkans [RA-AK-KAN]
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Homeworld: Raykka
  • Language: Raykkian | Huttese
  • Average Lifespan: 500 years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description: Mean, ugly, fragile, the Raykkans rely on technology and enslaved species to keep themselves secure and comfortable in decadence. They are widely considered cousins to the Hutts for their similar penchant for cruelty, exploitation and taste for pleasure. And because of the similarities in their young, before they grow up.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type II
  • Average height of adults: 2m
  • Average length of adults: /
  • Skin color: Hues vary from brown to dark purple.
  • Hair color: /
  • Distinctions: A combination of disuse and evolutionary efficiency the Raykkan’s legs have become shriveled and useless for normal function. In their stead they use their arms to move around when that becomes necessary. As a result their arms are highly developed, strong and capable of great feats of athleticism. Sadly most of that is only shown in private, when they don’t have to stand on them or move around. This caused most of the technology that is used exclusively by them to be operated by either their voice or their mind. It is their mind that has become the greatest beneficiary of their stunted evolutionary path. As their legs wasted away, forcing them to get creative, their minds grew stronger and stronger to offset the inability of physical manipulation. It is often claimed that only the most charismatic and forceful of Raykkans were able to survive throughout the generations, causing their strength of character and will to dominate their behavior.
  • Races: /
  • Strengths:
Innate mental strength: The Raykkans have an innate ability to dominate the minds of others and reinforce their own against intrusion. This isn't a Force-based ability, a better example would be the Zeltron's innate ability to influence the emotions of other sentients, but far more developed, stronger and thorough in its execution; as it was necessary for them to simply survive.
  • Acidic: Their homeworld was ruined millennia ago and this forced them to adapt. Much like their cousins, the Hutts, they are highly resistant against poisons and toxins.

[*]Weaknesses:
  • Fragile: They are weak and fragile. In a straight-up physical competition most species will have a big advantage on them.
  • Handless: Literally. Their arms serve as replacements for their legs. Which means that they can’t actually manipulate things with their arms for the most part, they need to get creative.
  • Vision: Their eyes are good for darker environments, but highly sensitive to stronger light sources.
  • Callous: Due to their species history, they are unlikely to see the suffering of others in an empathetic light, making it difficult to relate to others.

CULTURE
  • Diet: Meat. Meat. Meat.
  • Communication: Speech and Telepathy.
  • Technology level: Upper Outer Rim. They have taken to salvage and strip technology of others through intermediaries, hostile takeovers and elaborate contract schemes. Access to Core-standard tech is assumed, but corporate greed and a lack-of-will to invest into it broadly has left their worlds in an in-between state. For example they have starships, but the air filters of their factories are sub-par, et cetera.
  • Religion/Beliefs: They worship the now-extinct great serpents that once roamed the earth of their homeworld. They had a distinct similarity to the queens of the Raykkans, making them believe they were destined to be the overlords of their homeworld. They consider their queens as the living link to those serpents and have taken to worship them accordingly, for the most part anyway. While lower castes of Raykkans might buy into this psuedo-religion, the higher they climb and claw, the less they seem to care about their Queens. After all, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
  • General behavior: The Raykkans are a species that value hierarchy above everything else. Not in the sense of respecting it, but in the sense of climbing the ladder no matter what limitations are set before them. They are born into distinct castes, from the lowly worker to the middle-class to the wealthy moguls that control the flow of capital and entertainment through their society. But it is cold-stone cash that decides in which cast they reside- this means that there is a constant struggle to get to the top and then stay there. One mistake is all it takes to see all their hard-won advancement dissipate into a cloud of toxic smoke.

Family only matters in so much as it allows for a better promotional movement above. If it is beneficial, they will turn against each other one way or another. Except for their Queen, the queens of the Raykkans have a very distinct role within their society. They are mother, priestess, queen and CEO all at once. They hold the future of the Raykkan species in their claws and they know that very well.

The Raykkan hold a dim light on the rest of the Galaxy. Coming from a dog-eat-dog world (sometimes literally) they have little in the way of proper sentiment, anything worth exploiting will be exploited, anything worth selling will be sold, they care little for anything else.

There are only a few species out there that have the respect (sometimes begrudgingly) of the Raykkan. One of them are the Hutts, because of a perpetuated shared heritage and a similar view of the world.

For the most part the Raykkan and the Hutts leave each other alone, but it is said that when the two work together… their fortune rises exponentially while their surroundings suffer greatly.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Much of the Raykkan history is shrouded in mystery and four-hundred years of complete darkness. The shreds of knowledge that exists is jealously guarded by their Queens and the few Raykkan males who have become powerful enough to rival their queens. It is widely accepted in their society that the Raykkans evolved and matured on the world of Varl, underlining their shared heritage with the Hutts. They preferred to live in isolation, deep cities underground where their eyes were sheltered from the brightness of the twin suns of Varl.

It was this tendency, their natural affinity for industry and a shared heritage that mostly kept the Raykkans and Hutts at peace. No one truly knows what caused the devastation of Varl, but the result was clear to all: the spread of the Raykkans into the wider region of Hutt Space.

They found a new home for themselves.

Equally lush, rich in biological diversification and resources, simply beautiful. Above all, it was not inhabited by any spacefaring species. Instead there were several indigenous species living at peace with nature around them.

Any other species might have tried to be a pleasant newcomer for their new neighbors.

But this was the first time that the Raykkans had no competition.

They started amicably. Forging bonds of trade and friendship with the surrounding species- offering novel technology to increase comfort, while receiving seemingly mild concessions in return. From the rights to this mountain with mineral deposits to the forests with tasty animals thriving in them.

Inch by inch the Raykkans took and took.

Their industry grew and with it their appetite for control. Jobs were offered to those same species, slowly infringing on their rights as they were accepted, until after a few generations the Raykkans were the undisputed rulers of Raykka.

Presumably it had a different name before their arrival, but as with all other things the Raykkans put their own stamp on it.

To rule. To own. To administer and exploit.
