Not long ago, the outbreak of a sinister plague began in the territory of the Mandalorian Enclave, and while the efforts to stop it have been significant, it was only a matter of time before it would spread. Alerts of a freighter breaking through confinement efforts reached both the Mandalorians and Valery, who was notified when its trajectory became known — GA space. Only hours later, all contact was lost with a space station meant for research at the border, as well as gathering intelligence to keep it secured from potential threads from outside.

To deal with this problem and prevent it from escalating, Valery contacted a friend, Kranak Vizsla Kranak Vizsla , to assist her in the investigation of the space station, and the potential purge of the turned. Sending soldiers or others was risky, but their experience with the plague and individual skills would hopefully allow them to stop the spread of it before it was too late.

<C> "Kranak? I'm making my approach to Hangar bay 3-C," Valery sent out as transmission, as her modified Stealth-X began its approach to dock with the station. From the cockpit, she could see the freighter that had docked, but life sign scans showed none. It was a terrifying piece of data, but it was real and they had to prepare themselves for the worst.

<C> "How many people were on board this thing again?"

The vigilant gaze of the Vizsla scanned the hangar bay bereft of activity, save for the gentle whine and hum of the engines of his gunship winding down; a frown had taken a hold of his scarred features underneath the white glowing visor of his helmet as he was deep in thought. A civilian freighter had managed to slip through one of the worlds cordoned off from the rest of the galaxy, within the Enclave space.

And it had made all the way to the Core, of all places.

They were spread thin, he could not deny that; spread thin as they waged a war against the ever present danger the forces of the Maw imposed on them and the rest of the galaxy, all the while forced to deal with this… man-made outbreak spreading like cancer across the Wild Space, and the internal strife that followed close behind it.

He couldn’t help but wonder as he stood alone inside the hangar bay with his scatter gun in his grasp as he waited to link up with the Master Jetii: How many more freighters such as this were adrift in space with their crews and passengers -refugees, more like- carrying the virus? How many more planets outside their space were in danger of the outbreak?

He was not sure if he wanted to know the answer.

In any case, until a vaccine -or better yet, a cure- could be found by the brightest minds and scientists The Enclave had to offer that were equipped to combat this virus, the most effective method of cure was purging the infected.

Valery’s voice crackling to life through the comlink built into his helmet would deny him further thought on the matter.

<C> "Kranak? I'm making my approach to Hangar bay 3-C, How many people were on board this thing again?"

<”Estimates suggest roughly over a hundred refugees -excluding the freighter’s crew, which is barely over a dozen themselves.”> He responded, speaking into his comlink as he glanced over the command pauldron draped over his left shoulder, and watched the Master Jetii’s approach to the Hangar Bay with her personal fighter. <”And the station’s been dark for how long?”> The man raised her a question for confirmation's sake, knowing the answer; it’s been left in the dark for just a little over a month; that was enough time for anyone lacking means to protect themselves from the virus aboard the station to be infected and turned.

For a good two weeks after it went dark, it had not raised suspicions as to something going awry aboard the station, thinking it was an issue with their communications array. Only after the authorities could not raise the people aboard the ships that had the misfortune to dock onto the station was when suspicions arose. Only after realizing what was going on after an observation and reconnaissance did they realize what was going on.

And that was when they had taken the precautions to combat the spreading virus and the infected; that’s why he was here, taking up their request for help without a second thought.

<"Estimates suggest roughly over a hundred refugees -excluding the freighter's crew, which is barely over a dozen themselves.">

Hearing the estimate of the crew size, Valery could only blink and wonder what kind of horror they were going to find inside. If they were scattered throughout the ship, it would be possible to take them on in small groups. But if they came together and converged on them, it was possible they'd get overrun. That risk would only become more significant as they went deeper into the station, as it meant being further away from escape routes.

At his question, Valery let out a soft sigh, "A little over a month... too long," she said before she tapped a button and performed another scan of the station. "I'm picking up pockets of what I think are survivors. They probably barricaded themselves into compartments or rooms. I assume there will be a lot of infected near those pockets too."

Valery downloaded all of the gathered data into the integrated computer of her vambrace and glanced it over quickly. She now had access to a map with all possible escape points, escape pods included, and it marked where these pockets of survivors were located. Hopefully, it would help find a path through the station that came with the least amount of danger.

"If we can somehow get all these people out, we could either blow up the station or bring reinforcements for a very thorough cleansing. But the survivors should be our priority right now."

With that said, Valery finally approached the docking port she had mentioned earlier and made sure her fighter was secured. The canopy of her cockpit then opened, and Valery hopped out and into the completely dark Hangar area. Her Keshian eyes still allowed her to see quite well, and she figured Kranak would have no problem either with his helmet.

Would the infected be able to see in the dark?

"A little over a month... too long," she said before she tapped a button and performed another scan of the station. "I'm picking up pockets of what I think are survivors. They probably barricaded themselves into compartments or rooms. I assume there will be a lot of infected near those pockets too."

At the Master Jetii’s voiced notion, The Giant gave a silent, acknowledging nod of his head. As Valery continued over the comlink however, he couldn’t find it in himself to break it to her, that the heat signatures she was picking up in her scanners, more than likely belonged to the infected. Unturned, perhaps, but infected nevertheless. Among the methods the virus utilized to spread into other applicable hosts were through a being's respiratory system, primarily; absorbing or coming into contact with an infected’s bodily fluids such as blood or saliva, through an open wound for instance, was its secondary method.

If what they perceived to be survivors lacked any sufficient personal protection equipment –such as rebreathers and the filters to go along with them– to prevent contracting the virus via their respiratory system, surely they were already infected by now. But there was no telling at what stage of the infection they were currently suffering from as they did not possess the knowledge yet to learn when they would have contracted the infection, but regardless of the fact, though, they did not possess an alternate choice over carrying out quarantine procedures and protocols for a virus of this caliber, in order to combat this infection and to prevent it from spreading like the wildfire it was further into Alliance space.

"If we can somehow get all these people out, we could either blow up the station or bring reinforcements for a very thorough cleansing. But the survivors should be our priority right now."

A synthesized, muttered grunt escaped The Giant’s helmet annunciator, wordlessly expressing his acknowledgement while Valery hopped out of the canopy of her personal ship. <”I do not have faith the station can be salvaged,”> the Vizsla remarked as his gaze trailed the Master Jetii; a month was quite the time period for the infection to spread into the furthest corners of the station. If, by chance, a spot was left contaminated, then it would only prepare grounds for another outbreak in the station in the future. They would be better off setting the station to detonate.

But that was not his call to make. That was up to the Master Jetii to decide; he was fulfilling an advisory role here to prevent the further spread of the virus. It would be up to Valery to decide on the method to accomplish this goal.

A green hue, slightly grainy and fuzzy, was cast over his surroundings shortly after the Vizsla pulled down his helmet mounted macrobinoculars. The device, detecting the low visibility conditions surrounding The Giant, had automatically switched to low visibility mode; the otherwise bright orange eyes of the Master Jetii now glowed at a bright green. <”Taking point,”> he reported back as the man turned around, walking at a combat pace towards a blast door closeby; sealed and and locked, and the only access into the station from the Hangar Bay, it denied them access to the rest of the station.

<”I got the door,”> his shotgun hanged over his broad chest plate from its sling as he let go of the weapon. Lowering himself to a crouch in front of the sealed blast door, the man stretched out his right hand towards the door; a built-in fusion cutter extended from his right vambrace. Its tip sparkling to life afterwards, the Vizsla would begin cutting away a hole on the blast door large enough to allow them passage into the station all the while working as quietly as he can to avoid attracting the attention of the turned roaming aimlessly in the halls of the station.

<"I do not have faith the station can be salvaged,">

Valery paused briefly when he said this and drew several deep breaths through her rebreather. She was always pragmatic and realistic, so she understood that it was very likely that any survivor could still be infected. Which meant there was no real way to save them. However, as a Jedi, she had to confirm that before making a decision to blow this place apart. If there was even just one actual, uninfected survivor, she'd go to hell and back to bring them out of here alive.

That was the Jedi way.

"We'll confirm, and do what must be done," she said, her tone a little somber because of what it could mean. If they found nothing but undead and infected people, only one solution remained in the end. They'd have to either kill them one by one with the hopes of cleansing this station or blow it all apart. But for now, she decided against drawing conclusions or focusing on the worst possible scenarios. She kept them in mind but focused instead on the hope of people still being out there.

"Alright, it might draw attention so be on your guard," Valery then said, as he moved to the door and began to work to get it opened. The fusion cutter went through the metal like a hot knife through butter, but in a station so empty and devoid of life, even those faint sounds echoed through the hallways. When a hole was eventually cut, and they passed through, Valery focused on her senses and let out a soft sigh. "No danger ye-"

She paused, as a loud scream reached them all the way from much further up ahead. Either one of the undead had heard them entering, or it was a survivor in need.

"Still want to take point?" she asked, flashing him just a faint smile.

"We'll confirm, and do what must be done," she said, her tone a little somber because of what it could mean.

The Giant would give a nod of his head, extending a silent acknowledgement of her sentiment as he continued to cut away a sizable hole on the sealed blast door standing in front of them; that’s what they were here for. They would need to assess the situation thoroughly, leaving very little ground for assumptions that may be wrongful. There would be very little they could do to undo a wrong decision if they were to make such a mistake here.

"Alright, it might draw attention so be on your guard,"

<”Well, if they have not taken note of the noise both our crafts made while entering and landing inside the hangar bay,”> The Vizsla remarked as he stood back up to his feet, finished with cutting away the hole for entry. The glowing, red-hot tip of the fusion cutter extinguished shortly after the Mandalorian turned off the device; as the tool retracted back into its housing on The Giant’s right vambrace, his grasp returned to the weapon hanging down his chest plate, suspended by its sling. <”They will most certainly take note of this,”>

The metal plating he cut away was thrown several yards into the hallway stretching before them after The Giant landed one mean stiff kick square in the middle of said plating; with a loud metallic bang and clatter it came to a sharp, grinding halt, as the hallway fell into an eerie silence once more.

<”Ladies first?”> He quipped while he spared her a brief glance as he pointed his shotgun down the hallway bereft of light and life. Passing through the hole and entering the hallway one at a time, they had come to a brief halt, listening for any signs of activity; there was no feasible way of entering the station with more quieter means at the time. If the power was on he could have initiated a quick slice and lifted the seal on the blast door, but alas.

When a hole was eventually cut, and they passed through, Valery focused on her senses and let out a soft sigh. "No danger ye-"

Just as when she thought the coast was clear, a scream rang sharply further down the hallway in the station. There wasn’t a way to accurately discern whether it belonged to a survivor in need of urgent assistance, or whether it was the warcry of a turned infected, alerting a horde to their presence; The Giant was willing to bet on the latter if he was to be frank.

"Still want to take point?" she asked, flashing him just a faint smile.

Noticing a faint smile emerging from her visage when he paid her a glance, Kranak chuckled heartily at her quip thrown back at him in kind. <”I must not have told you about the times I’ve performed underground search and destroy operations back on Mandalore, against the Graug, if you believe this is enough to spook me,”> The Giant said as he moved to the front, walking past her at a slow combat pace; armed with just a vibro-knife, a blaster of your choosing and nothing else but your training and your senses while stuck inside a tunnel where one barely had enough space to wiggle around, sometimes forced to move onward on a crawl, all the while faced with the dangers of stepping on a booby trap if one was not careful enough to detect it, or the likely possibility one of those beasts hiding behind a corner or a bend in the poorly built tunnels, with the very real possibility a collapse, a cave-in at any given point while inside the tunnels, the idea of being buried alive and suffocating from the dust filling your lungs…

Those were quite the exhilarating experiences for The Giant. Never before had he felt more alive in his life after coming out of those tunnels in one piece, emerging triumphant, despite the dread washing over him at a constant; every time he had gone into one, Death was right alongside him, breathing down his neck, sending chills down his spine at the wake of every single second he spent in those tunnels.

At the sound of a distant rumbling, growing in intensity with every second, The Giant would be denied further reminiscence of his past as a Supercommando; loud and hurried footfalls came from further down the station. <”We have been made,”> The Vizsla came to a grinding halt; with the flick of the fire selector switch of the gun, he switched to its pump action mode as he remained in his combat stance. Keeping the gun trained down the hallway, he lie in wait for the horde to come to them.

His "Ladies first" comment was met with a slight roll of her eyes, but the corners of her lips also tugged up into a smirk. Even in these bad situations, it was important not to be brought down too much, and humor was one of the best things to have to keep things light. So while she stepped through the hole cut into the door knowing that something terrible waited for them up ahead, she felt just a bit better because of the friend she had by her side.

The scream that quickly followed snapped her back to attention fast, though. It didn't scare her, nor did it make her want to turn around and leave, but it was definitely unsettling to know it came from someone who had been alive not long ago.

Kranak quickly took point as a result, but stopped soon after, when they could hear something approaching. Valery also felt it through the Force — the animalistic hunger that bled out from each and every one of them. It was like death itself was closing in on them, and there was no way back anymore. The horde was coming.

<"We have been made,">

"I'll keep them back if you give me cover," Valery said before she stepped forward again and drew the hilts of her two lightsabers into her hands. The undead were closing in fast, so she wasted no time and ignited the two violet blades, casting both herself and Kranak in its intense light. Her fiery eyes then settled on the far end of the hallway and pierced through the darkness... until she could see them.

The intense heat signature of the tight pack moving towards them with murderous intent.

Valery then waited for Kranak's first few shots to take a few of them down at longer range, before she blasted forward and spun around like a deadly whirlwind, allowing her two blades of plasma to sever their way through a whole group at once. But even with their numbers taking a huge hit almost instantly, they kept coming. Unlike normal soldiers, they felt no fear or hesitation, so their intent remained the same.

It didn't take long for them to try and flank around her and swallow her up within the horde.
