Question on a certain race and the timeline

I just had a quick question about the timeline so I know how to make my character. When exactly is this taking place (in what era, time period, etc) and my other question was about the species. Depending on the timeline, I'd like to make a Sith Pureblood character (I did not see these in the banned list, but also was not in the confirmed list either, so I am a little confused on what to do.) Would this be allowed, and if not, why? Is the race too powerful, merely does not fit the timeline, or they are extinct?

A list of available (major) factions can be found here. Let's just say there's a lot more to choose from than just Jedi and Sith.

We're currently in 851 ABY and no, there's no problem with that. You can be whatever you desire, creativity being your only limit.
