Intent: To make a hands-free military-grade portable scanner
Development Thread: No
Manufacturer: Silk Holdings
Model: PZ-9 Portable Sensor
Affiliation: Omega Protectorate and subsidiaries
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Flexiplast, thaissen crystal (very minor)
Description: Building off the Protectorate's interest in the Silk-made Levantine-proprietary QQ-M4T-5U Scanpack, the PZ-9 is the first of two proprietary products for the Protectorate. Cheaper, more portable, and more ubiquitous, the PZ-9 fills functions similar to the Scanpack, with somewhat reduced capacity but more accessibility. A tiny chip of thiassen crystal, contained within a lightmeter, gives extremely short-range indication of the presence of Dark or Light Side Force signatures, with a high margin of error. This is based on a very, very minor exercise of the proprietary Lightbringer technology developed by Silk. It is NOT sufficient to judge the magnitude of a Force signature, or to differentiate between Force disturbances and Force presences. Unlike the full-sized Lightbringer, which has extremely limited functionality in this regard, the PZ-9 is not sensitive enough to register a masked Force presence, not even as a flutter at very short range.
The frame of the PZ-9 is a proprietary flexiplast, touch-sensitive but capable of recognizing precise contact from a gloved or gauntleted hand. The entire surface functions as a proprietary at-a-glance display, using colors, symbols, and dot sequences to represent contact on certain scanner types, as well as direction and range. Target-rich environments have been known to create too much visual data, but prioritization trimming algorithms have their own flaws; both filtered and unfiltered modes are available. The PZ-9 is designed to fit snugly around the wrist and fit smoothly over the hand when being donned or removed. It is somewhat pliable but momentarily hardens against abrupt impact, to the point where it can protect its flexible internal circuitry but probably not give much protection for the wearer (Class Two armor equivalent). Each sensor is biometrically locked to the wearer with OP encryption protecting a reset.
The device has the following functionality.

- Metal (range 30m)
- Comms intercept (no decrypt) (range 300m)
- Life-signs (range 150m)
- Minerals/geomatic (range 100m)
- Energy field/power generator detection (range 100m)
- Voice/upload comlink (range 25km)
- Ranged Force detector (range 2m)
