Vong Dead Zone was a misnomer. After the Mandalorian Enclave, almost half a century ago, had cleared Kestri of the Vong, only the glacier-ringed valley had been the one place they could not rid of the Vong. Their worldship nest was buried so deep that any effort to clear them out was deemed impossible, with calculated Mandalorian casualties mounting insurmountably high if any attempt were to be made. Instead, the zone was quarantined and repurposed into a training ground for the Supercommando elite. Now, after the Vong Incursion, small pockets of Vong had popped up across the world. Still, the Dead Zone was the highest concentration found on-world. Operations of the Verd'kandar, the shield of Kestri, doubled the rate of their predecessors as they made efforts to curb and stave off the Vong at the heart of their population.

Romul spent more days in Kestri than at the old Citadel of the Kom'rk. The Verd'kandar Bastion had replaced the old fortress as the base of operations for planetary defense; yet, the Citadel stood as an ancient proving ground and regional fortress, projecting Mandalorian power throughout the Cin'ciri mountains. It was chance, then, that found him at the Kom'rk when a ship broadcasting unfamiliar codes was caught on approach by long-range scanners.

"Those are Mandalorian codes," Romul commented as he watched a holoprojection of a scaled version of the ship descend towards the fortress. "Old ones. Hail it," he commanded to an Al'verde manning the post. "Watch it closely. Guns at the ready. Any hostile scans, bring that ship down." The Al'verde nodded.

<<"Unidentified ship, transmit flight path and ident codes. Landing coordinates will be provided.">> The transmission would be hailed on an open-enough frequency so that the strange ship might be identified.

Romul himself left the control room, shading toward the open courtyard, where he might receive this visitor in person; whoever they were, they knew how to navigate to Kestir, and they had come not to Tor Valum, but to this aged citadel. He wanted to see for himself who this might be.

Ever since he heard that transmission, He knew he had to find others.
So he went and followed it.

"This is Jaikell of Clan Wyrvhor replying from the "Oath of Iron" I am coming from the planet Mandalore"
he says as he sends over his flight data and his identity code.

"This has to be them" he says to himself.
Eventually they give the all clear and allow him to land so he takes his ship in.

He lands his ship at the landing pad provided,

With slight smoke a Hiss the ramp comes down and the door opens, as he walks down he sees an older Mandalorian,
in a battle scarred beskar'gam.

"I am Jaikell, Alor of clan Wyrvhor, I have been traveling a long while,
following a message and it lead me here." "Seems like I found the right place"

he says as he looks him up and down,
"but looks can be deceiving."
he says a moment later as he walks down the ramp
If they are Mandalorian, I wonder why they didn't head the Mandalorian Empires call.

The warrior bore an impressive frame, tall, heavyset. He would've made a good Si'kayha, Romul thought, then he reminded himself that the order of Super commandos had been disbanded. "Right place all depends on one thing," Romul grunted. "What are you looking for?"

He stood his ground as the other Mandalorian walked down the ramp. "Welcome to Kestri, vod," he added shortly.

"I came here following the Message that guided me, a Message sent from someone calling themselves a Mandalorian."

"And so I am here to find them, more of my own kind, More that call themselves Mandalorian and truly follow "The Way" and live as how a Mandalorian should truly live."

he says a moment later,

"You wear our armor but do you know and follow the way of our Ancestors?" he says to him while noticing he used the word "vod"
"At least he knows our tounge" he thinks to himself

"You wear our armor but do you know and follow the way of our Ancestors?" he says to him while noticing he used the word "vod".

Romul had never been challenged on these basic principles before. "You speak to Romul Saxon, Alor of Clan Saxon," he growled. His tone was not aggressive, but suggested that this stranger should choose their next words lightly. "You have come to Kestri. Here we follow the Resol'nare." That was the truth. Simple, unadorned, but ever so was Romul's style.

He looked the warrior up and down. "What do you follow, Vod? I can smell Mandalore off of you. We do not quarrel with our cousins, but the Jetti and Dar'jetti have no place on Kestri. If you are sworn to the Mandalorian Empire's banner, then pray tell what brings you here."

Jaikell stood still for a moment after Romul's words, the faint hiss of his helmet's respirator the only sound between them. The wind tugged lightly at the edges of the fur hanging from his outfit as his visor remained locked onto the Alor of Clan Saxon.

"Saxon.." he said, the history behind that one is not a good one.
"…Your people bent the knee to the Galactic Empire" Jaikell said, voice steady
A slow breath filtered through his helmet.

"The same Empire that turned Mandalore into a tool for their gain." he said, Not as an accusation, just a plain fact laid bare.

"They do not hold that against you?" he asked, as a genuine question.

a breath pasted between then,

"The Mandalorian Empire," Jaikell began, his voice low and even through the modulator, "May not be what i thought it was." he said, Understanding the weight of the words he just uttered. He fought for the Mandalorian Empire, Spilt blood for it, But ever since the Disappearance of his Vod, Manti Wyrvhor, and since the arena fight on KALEVALA, Things just felt different for him.

"I follow the Resol'nare as it was meant to be followed. Not as politicians shape it…nor as outsiders influence it. even more so those who used to be Jedi or Dar'jetti "His head tilted slightly, studying Romul.

"I still hold much love for those in the Mandalorian Empire. But the amount of people there, Who rely truly on the force, and the abilities it brings them, is.. disturbing."
His arms rested at his sides, relaxed, but ready for anything that may come,

"I came because someone sent a message…One i needed to follow and see, See more about who was out there, See if there were more people like me, who follow the "Way of the Mandalore" for i found none in the Empire.

"And maybe, Just maybe, find more Mando'ade i can truly call Vod."

Romul raised an eyebrow. "You know your history," he admitted. "But what happened near a millennium ago is of little concern." Romul folded his arms across his chest, the metal of his gauntlets quietly scraping against one another. He did not know if this warrior meant harm -- he did not sense outright aggression in his tone -- but Romul's patience was wearing at his impetuousness.

Romul grunted. "State your clan and heritage, vod. I have received you hospitably enough. I've a mind to bear you my steel, but I sense there is honor within you. In but a few days, we embark to fight the Sith and bring them to heel. Any warrior who pledges their blade to this cause, such will I welcome."

Jaikell stood unmoving as Romul spoke, the scrape of beskar on beskar echoing faintly in the courtyard. For a moment, there was only silence

Then he stepped forward.

"I am Jaikell Wyrvhor. Alor of Clan Wyrvhor. Ori'vod of the Black Watch." he said evenly.

A slight pause followed,

"Foundling, taken in under the creed. Raised by the Resol'nare… not taught it later, forged in it."

His tone carried no arrogance

"You speak of honor. Of steel.. "Good. That is language I understand."

At the mention of the Sith, something in his posture shifted—subtle, but there.

"The Sith," he repeated, voice lower now. " I hold no love for them"

A brief pause.

"But I do not pledge my blade lightly."

His arms remained at his sides, relaxed,

"I did not come here to serve another war without understanding the nation behind it" His head tilted slightly. "You say you march against the Sith in days.. I will join you in it if you will have me, learn more of your people, see how they are, and then we can go from there. if your actions match your words." Jaikell says.

Romul nodded. He did not begrudge this warrior -- Jaikell of Clan Wyrvhor -- his honor. Of much worth were oaths not lightly sworn. "I accept your conditions, vod." He turned towards the battlements of the citadel. Below them stretched the Vong Dead Zone. Cloud covered most of the glacier and valley. Hundreds of meters below, faint lights from the glowrods that indicated landing zones could be seen.

"This is the Jibr Glacier, vod. We call it the Vong Dead Zone. This world was once covered by mutated Yuuzhan Vong. Once we curbed them, and once they overwhelmed us. The last time they did so, Kestri nearly fell to their hordes." His eyes were dark, grim, as he spoke, recalling the bloodshed of their incursion. "Now we monitor their hive and eliminate their excess when necessary. As you landed we were about to carry out such an operation. Join your steel to mine if you wish to test the mettle of Kestri's Mando'ade." He hefted his massive war hammer, and offered his hand to clasp Jaikell's, should the offworlder accept Romul's invitation.

Jaikell walked up beside Romul, resting his gaze over the edge of the battlements. The glacier stretched out below them, swallowed in fog, broken only by scattered points of light far beneath.
He was quiet for a few seconds.

"Yuuzhan Vong…" he said finally, low. "Didn't think any were still left."
His visor lingered on the Dead Zone, taking it in.

At the mention of Kestri nearly falling, he gave a slight nod.
"Yeah. Enemies like that don't stay buried unless you make sure of it." he said,

When Romul offered his hand, Jaikell looked at it, just for a moment. Then he reached out and clasped his forearm firmly. Solid. With no hesitation.

He let go and stepped forward a bit, looking back out over the valley.

"If this is what you deal with here then I will gladly help you. just lead the way."

Romul grinned fiercely, grasping Jaikell's hand in his. The warrior's grip was firm, hard as beskar.

He let go and stepped forward a bit, looking back out over the valley.
"If this is what you deal with here then I will gladly help you. just lead the way."

"Good," Romul rumbled. "First, that armor, vod. I have something that is looking for a warrior of your caliber." Beckoning for Wyrvhor to follow him, he made his way to the Citadel's armory. In the peak of the Enclave, the entire fortress would be teeming with Si'kayha, and the armory was one of the busiest parts of the entire citadel; forges alit as smiths rehammered pieces or shaped new steel, warriors preparing for their latest mission. Now it was much more dismal; they were clearly running the most basic operation.

He led Jaikell to a vault, opening it, the heavy blast doors swinging aside. On it was a set of Jorir beskar'gam, made for a warrior of Jaikell's frame. He looked at Wyrvhor. "After-action, we may have to refit a couple of pieces, but this should fit you. We will put your Clan's signet on it as well, once you have bathed it in some Vong blood."

Jaikell followed without a word, his boots echoing through the halls of the Citadel. His visor moved slowly, taking in the armory as they passed the looming structures around him

When the vault opened, his attention shifted fully. a set of Jorir beskar'gam, sat there,
"After-action, we may have to refit a couple of pieces, but this should fit you. We will put your Clan's signet on it as well, once you have bathed it in some Vong blood." Romul said

He reached out, running a gloved hand over one of the plates, feeling the craftsmanship beneath his fingers.
"Its perfect" jaikell says "I don't trade armor lightly," "Every mark on mine means something"

A short pause.

"But I understand what you're offering."

He turned back to the set, giving it one last look.

"I'll wear it, Now lets put it to good use" he said before clasping Romul on the shoulder.

"I'll wear it, Now lets put it to good use" he said before clasping Romul on the shoulder.

Romul returned the gesture, putting his own hand on Jaikell's. Then he nodded towards the armor. "You have 10 minutes, vod. Our dropship will await you on the platform." With that, he took his leave of the armory, his heavy crimson cloak swirling behind him.

Coming out onto the platform, as he had told Wyrvhor an old Enclave dropship awaited them. "Dropship's ready to go, Alor," Ryk Beroya, a Si'kayha veteran, said, dropping a half-meter down from the hovering craft to the ground. "Scanners say we have a storm coming in. High winds, no good for flying. Once we hit the VDZ, we might be grounded without evac until it calms down."

Romul nodded, brooding. Conditions were not ideal, but such storms were common in the Cin'cirri mountains. It wouldn't be the first time they ran the gauntlet without the possibility of evac. It just lowered their room for error. "We will leave as soon as our new vod is ready."
