Public Proposal: Imperial Lodges

There are a lot of 'loose' Force Users out there of various ideologies, or even just straight up independent ones, without a place of their own. Lone wolves are fine but Pel was always meant to have his own path.

I came up with this idea when I first designed Pel, and now I'd like to introduce the idea fully. This was specifically designed for the Empire of the Lost/ISA, now the Imperial Confederation, but I think the model of independent Lodges, or Imperial Lodges outside of Imperial Space, would be welcome.

The idea is that a Lodge is an association of Force User organizations and individuals who seek to practice their own traditions of the Force and share their knowledge and beliefs with others, without being dominated by either the Jedi or the Sith, who the Lodges believe to be 'consuming' powers that erase existing and local identities. By taking vows to the Empire, and permitting the Empire and other Lodges to provide oversight, they gain permission to practice their beliefs and share innovations.

Please note that the Lodges are meant to be unwelcoming to membership by currently-practicing Jedi and Sith. Former members are okay, but they do vow not to join those organizations or any permutation of them.

Here's the summary for the Imperial Lodges, which are bound to serve the Imperial Confederation specifically.

The Imperial Sanctioned Grand Lodge is an organization of Force Users who have been sanctioned by the Empire to operate their practices outside of the Imperial Knights. Imperial Knights are not banned from being members, or even holding high positions. in order to be a force user within the Imperial Confederation without joining the pre established force orders, they must join a Sanctioned Lodge, which are overseen by the Grand Lodge, by Imperial Writ. Members of the Jedi, Sith, and similar organizations are explicitly forbidden, and all members make vows of fealty to the Imperial Confederation and the Empire.

Believing that there are many Force traditions and secrets of the Force that could be of use to the Empire, the Grand Lodge seeks to understand these traditions and platform them. By doing so, they will bring their strengths together, and to the Empire. It also serves to create a sense of union between the Imperial Confederation and its client worlds. By bringing in many Force traditions, and uniting their cultures, the Imperial Confederation would be encouraging and fostering their cultures, as well as bringing them together. In this unity, their strengths will be multiplied and shared.

The Lodges maintain a loose hierarchy, meant to allow its members flexibility while offering oversight to their activities. The Lodges offer common archives, opportunities for training, and a space for Force Users to practice and share their traditions in a controlled environment. Experiments and practices would be reviewed by the Lodges for suitability, ethical concerns, and safety.

The Grand Lodge itself is located on the Imperial Capital (Currently New Alderaan), while every inhabited world would either have a sanctioned Lodge or shrine for the use by any of its members. Local temples for Force traditions would be required to maintain a Lodge in order to practice, but this comes with numerous benefits.

There are Four ranks:

  1. Apprentice: Recently joined, an Apprentice can only act or practice with the direct supervision of an established member.
  2. Fellow: A fully accepted and sanctified member of the Lodge
  3. Stewart: A recognized, sanctified leader of the Lodge. Only Stewarts may accept an Apprentice as a Fellow, often with a tribunal of three Stewarts.
  4. Magister: A Stewart who is recognized as being the leader or otherwise expert on one or more Force traditions.
Stewarts and Magisters must be appointed or recognized at the Grand Lodge itself by the Emperor or an appointed representative, often a member of the Grand Lodge itself who wields the Emperor's confidence.

The Lodges operate a number of initiatives on behalf of the Empire, including Force Academies, research, and advisory roles. In order for a Force User to hold any kind of office or rank within the Imperial Confederation, they must be a sanctified Fellow before accepting any commission or appointment. Often, graduation from any Academy endorsed or operated by the Sanctified Lodges will accompany a promotion to Fellow.

Non-Force Users may join the Lodges under two conditions:
  • Patron, someone who is involved in the oversight and operations of the Lodge on behalf of the Empire
  • Deacon, a person who is not a Force Sensitive but nonetheless studies the Force and Force Traditions, often as some kind of practitioner of a religious tradition

These roles are not mutually exclusive, but the title of Patron would take precedent over the title of Deacon. Such members may take conventional roles as well, and would be known by their rank first - ie Fellow-Deacon or Stewart-Patron.

So if you have a Force User that doesn't quite fit in anywhere else, consider joining or founding a Lodge! And if you'd like to join the ImpCon, consider joining the Imperial Lodge!

I'm still getting the details together, and will be launching a roleplay thread to talk about their foundation shortly.

Thread is up

Onrai Onrai You were talking about exactly the kind of proposal that I'm working on here in the conference. You are welcome to join us in the IC thread.

Teckla Tane Teckla Tane We have spoken briefly about the Quasesitorum, but the big thing that gives me pause is that it isn't committed to the Empire - which this project requires - and it is anti-Dark Side, which I'm trying to create a reasonable amount of room for without going to extremes. If the Quases are willing to make compromises, I'm happy to do so in turn.

The Q does not see the Force in Light and Dark.

I would be happy to collaborate. Teckla is going to support Imperial thinking, she will just not be limiting herself to a single faction at this point.

She was head of the Imperial Crusaders who were loyal to the Empire of the Lost. So she could work with Pel or whoever is setting up the Lodge(s). Teckla’s cousin is a former Jedi who did not fall per se, rather was dissatisfied with Jedi results. So Light-leaning FU are not a bad thing to Teckla. She is pushing for order not darkness, even though her original training was Dark.

I am not sure that our Orders can be one, but I think we can certainly help each other out.
