"It works. It's nasty, but it works. I'm not proud of it - but in the end, it's no worse than a blaster, right?"
- Cadence in Internal Development Log 2304#B1:FINAL

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Discreet conflict resolution.
    • Meant to usher NPCs towards plot-advancing deaths and give PCs a weird experience - with their OOC consent.

  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Class Four
  • Weight: Extremely Light
  • Height: Extremely Small
  • Movement: 'Dynamic Attraction'
  • Armaments: Cloudkill is the weapon.
  • Misc. Equipment: Localised 'swarm mind'.
  • Resistances: Cloudkill particles are small enough to be pushed around by most hazards, but cannot otherwise take much punishment.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Cloudkill particles are composed of Material 2d384a, which is sourced from [REDACTED] and further modified by [DESIGNATION: CROWN]. Once created, the particles are able to alter their mass and heading to move about, as well as form a surprisingly intelligent 'swarm mind' through extremely short-range communications based on gravitational microfluctuations caused by their mass changes.
    • Cloudkill particles are equally capable of travelling through liquid or solid mediums, e.g., rivers, beverages, or food. They cannot pass through 'properly air-tight materials', most notably armour and hazard suits designed to keep out microparticles.
  • Cloudkill particles can wreak absolute havoc on a target from the inside - their effects can include, but are not limited to, limited mind control by way of neuron-manipulation, sabotage of the immune system, causation of blood clots or organ failure, nurturing of cancerous growths by sabotaging the body's detection system, manipulation of hormones, and even sabotage of the target's very DNA.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Unseen Death: Cloudkill is too small to be perceptible under ordinary circumstances, can inflict difficult-to-diagnose symptoms, and tends to disperse into trace amounts of inert matter when disabled. As a result, it is a nearly perfect tool of assassination.
  • Size Matters: Cloudkill is microscopic and normally takes the form of a dispersed cloud. As a result, it moves slowly and can 'perceive' only its immediate surroundings - usually only areas in contact with the cloud itself, which is rarely larger than ten metres in diameter. Additionally, the size of its constituent particles precludes adding any form of ion/EMP shielding - they are easily disabled/destroyed by such threats.
DESCRIPTION
Project Cloudkill is the brainchild of Globex's resident espionage hobbyist, Cadence. Despite not being assigned to Counterintel (she assigned herself after watching 'a few too many espionage holodramas'), she is by far the most creative artificial intelligence ever created by Globex and has access to the totality of the Corp's research logs, confidential manufacturing processes, and research black sites.

By applying said creativity in ways Globex's finest nanotechnicians have yet to fully decode, she was able to create nanoscale particles to which the laws of physics only partially apply - when asked, she confirmed that the principles behind their mass-altering attributes would fall apart if applied to anything larger than a grain of sand. The way in which the particles form a hive mind of sorts is even less understood.

Efforts to decode her research have been further hampered by the veil of secrecy surrounding the material composition of the particles.

Whatever the case, the new weapon system proved to be near-unmatched in its discretion, though delivery was a major issue - the slow speed and limited 'sensors' of the weapon means that it must typically be deployed near a target. It is also wise to have detailed data on the body shape and weight of the target, to reduce the risk of Cloudkill targetting a similarily-sized and shaped individual.

After deployment, Cloudkill is typically given orders with 'subspace vibrations' akin to those used by Subspatial Nanotransmitters - the amount of data that can be transmitted to the cloud is severely limited and the cloud is incapable of responding. Such transmissions can also be jammed.
