SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Subspatial Nanotransmitters are deployed into an object as a cloud of nanoscale particles that 'impregnates' it at the molecular level. They do exactly nothing unless energized by a carefully-calibrated subspace transmission from a 'nearby' (same system as the bare minimum) relay; once such a transmission is received, it is 'bounced back' along with any sound waves hitting the object. Certain objects, notably viewscreens, windows, and mirrors, can also relay visual data - visuals tend to be quite 'primitive' due to limitations of the medium.
  • If someone becomes aware of the presence of Subspatial Nanotransmitters, they could conceivably jam the transmissions by drowning it out with short-range subspace transmissions. It is probably easier to just destroy the object or place it in a soundproof box, however.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Passive Surveillance: Subspatial Nanotransmitters can relay audio and occasionally visuals with minimal emissions - when the transmitters are inactive (i.e., not energized by a subspace transmission), they can only be detected by examining the object at the molecular level.
  • Limited Surveillance: Subspatial Nanotransmitters transmit relatively little information and must be energized from a 'nearby' relay.
DESCRIPTION
Invented by the AI known as Cadence after 'she watched a few too many espionage holodramas', Subspatial Nanotransitters are nanoscale particles able to bond with nearly any material. They need not make up more than a quadrillionth or so of an object's mass to properly function and are only active when agitated or energized by a specifically-calibrated subspace transmission; even when active, they are very difficult to detect.

Globex's researchers have tried and failed to understand how exactly the particles are made to 'resonate' with Subspace, eventually giving up and giving a Cadence subroutine a small space station orbiting uncomfortably close to a black hole and whatever materials she asks for.

Supposedly, all she needs is hydrogen, lithium, and subatomic knots of space-time, though the how is more nebulous.

Whatever it is the subroutine does in that station, it involves radiation levels so massive that all shipments (and indeed all ships that dock there) are required to go through week-long decontamination processes before they can be safely approached by organics.

As a matter of policy, Globex refuses to admit that the technology even exists, let alone that they possess it.

Fair enough, I didn't really consider that since espionage really only works if the target is unaware.

Still, I added one option for jamming - and noted simple, low-tech ways of dealing with 'contaminated' objects.

Edit: No changes except in the new Special Features point.
