ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • All-Rounder: With a respectable armament, good engines, and decent sized hanger the Marauder-class is capable of performing many roles on many different battlefields.
  • Durable Profile: The Marauder features a slimmer than normal profile, a combat command tower, and a compact design, the Marauder features survivability better than its defense rating would indicate. The ship still loses combat effectiveness as one would expect but have a tendency to get away from even critical damage.
  • Punches above its weight: The power of the main battery fielded by the Marauder give it impressive firepower for its size. It can go toe-to-toe with Heavy Cruisers (for a time) and presents a serious threat to Destroyers and larger vessels.
WEAKNESSES
DESCRIPTION
The first major shipbuilding project of the current year (at time of writing) conducted by the First Order was an overhaul of the aging Marauder-class Cruiser. For years the class had been the standard cruiser of the polity, its slim, Star Destroyer-esque design immediately familiar. It was a good all rounder vessel, not terribly exceptional at any role but capable of filling many.

The latest major refit (Block IV) follows a similar design trend. Gone, however, is the complex mess of weapon systems that made maintenance and upkeep such a nightmare on the old class. Instead the various weapon systems have been refined and polished, with a main battery of four Star Destroyer-class Heavy Turbolaser cannons and a large secondary battery of hi-grade Quad Medium Turbolasers. But the Marauder still wields a wider variety of armaments than most ships, with both tactical and strategic scale missile launchers, ion cannons, and the typical assortment of Light Turbolasers and the ubiquitous Mk 26 'HARM' integrated into the Bastion System for defense.

The ship is also more durable than its earlier versions, thanks to the introduction of Carbon-Nanofilament Armor and Combustion Shielding in the years since its original introduction, and it has a larger hanger besides, a side-effect of the reduced mass from the armor allowing for better internal reinforcement, different power distrubtion modules, and simply some extra space. It is also a highly manuverable ship for its size, which combined with all the other factors make it a serious opponent in a one on one match against other cruisers, or a formidable addition to a fleet.

The side effect of all these improvements is an increased cost, which is demonstrated by the more limited production numbers for the ship. Of course given that the First Order exerts control over only a fraction of the worlds it once did, having a fraction of the number of ships works out well enough.

Great ship, slight problem.

Jack of all trades..: The other side of being a generally capable ship is the Marauder isn't a particularly exceptional ship in any field (except its armor). Can't chase down frigates, can't go head to head with destroyers, etc.
Not a valid weakness, please remove.

Let me know when the changes are made.
