Power Begets Knowledge (Open to all OS Members)

A blue-skinned alien woman entered the Dark Forge accompanied by a Nautolan Sith Acolyte. She had antennapalps like a Balosar but the coloring of a Chiss. Her orange eyes under somewhat heavy lids, scanned the room, and she gingerly took a seat, her consort sitting a few paces back from her. It would appear as though the Nautolan was carefully keeping an eye on her.

Bellatrix had missed the preamble of the lesson, but she had arrived just in time to hear Lord Bane’s instructions on how to begin the processing of Sith Amulet creation. She had been sent to the class on behest of her Master, [member="Darth Pyrrhus"] in order to expand upon the training he was being paid to provide to her. Despite her somewhat revealing outfit, for all intents and purposes, she would appear as a normal acolyte seeking knowledge. But the half-Chiss was, in reality, a slave, owned by [member="Kuryr"], The Blood Gorger, a fearsome Taung Pirate who worked for the Primeval. Darth Pyrrhus, a rising Togruta Knight within the One Sith had been paid by Kuryr to make sure Bellatrix, imbued with the darkside of the Force, became a useful assassin for his operations. She wore no collar or other tokens to denote her as a slave. The Nautolan was the only clue, and even still, the fact that they traveled in a pair, wouldn't have caused any concern.

The half-Chiss examined her amber crystal. Her eyes widened a bit as she turned it over in her delicate blue hands. It was honestly more beautiful in its current form as anything she had ever touched, and it was almost shame they would need to polish and cut it. Like Bellatrix it was rough around the edges, and this is what made the gem endearing.

“What happens, Lord Bane, if you keep the crystal the way it is? Does the amulet still hold power if it’s not processed in this ritual?” she asked in a soft and undemanding voice.

The force a living being that could guide every single person within the light or the dark side. Well...Erebus was getting guided by the Dark-Side. He had a black substance within his eyes, which stopped burning, but he had no vision at all. He was being very slowly stepping forward for, what not could have been for days or weeks! He was slowly taking steps forward and no actual accidents were happening. The Sith-Spawn forest which he ran into and got blinded at was now far gone, but the influence that they made him will stay with him forever.

He followed the force as he got to the entrance of the Temple. He went inside until he finally came to the entire group. Voices were heard by him and he looked around, "Uhm, hello... Is someone there?"

If Cath could blush with embarrassment, she would have, but she was Umbaran, so sadly her skin tone would remain as whitish-blue as two-day old corpse. Still, she was slightly miffed that Lord Bane decided to snipe at her in front of the entire Alchemy class. Peasants all of them, thought Cath as the room snickered in glee. She huffed and shrunk down in her seat to stew upon her predicament here. Her arm was still sore, she understood nothing about this alchemy business, and feeling sorry for herself, her thoughts drifted to her ex-lover Raknar, and she began to fantasize about forty-five different ways to kill him again. Yes, all will be right in the galaxy when he eventually suffers as I sink a sharp blade into his carotid artery, she mused, not paying attention to Bane’s droning instructions on polishing and cutting gems.

Suddenly a creature rounded the corner and in a high pitched meek voice asked if someone was there. She squinted her eyes to take in the newcomer. Was this another Sith experiment gone wrong? A wandering spirit come to steal her soul?!?

Oh by the maker, it was just a human child! Well that explains my befuddlement, she thought. Cath grew up an only child on Umbara, and her rather strict Rootai upbringing saw to it that she didn’t really associate with other children. She had no toys or dolls growing up, needing instead to be a perfect little adult from the age of five or else she would suffer “alone time,” locked in her parent’s music room.

She rose up from her seat and with interest, came over to the boy, just within arm’s reach.

“What are you doing here, my frail, helpless one? This is no place for a child,” she said.

After Darth Venefica and Vengeance, it was Ophidia's turn to purify her materials. She put on a pair of protective gloves, picked up a simple chain, and cleansed it and the Corusca gem in the bubbling liquid. She had no particular associations to bind to the liquid, except perhaps some of the less savoury stews from her mercenary days. She smiled a little as she kept dipping the materials into the liquid, then inspecting them, then dipping them once more for good measure. She headed over to begin her moulding for the inlay, but she heard a voice and put down her stuff carefully as she craned her neck to see better. A child? She was about to go over there, when one of the acolytes took action. Ophidia watched, in case a problem should arise. One never knew with Acolytes.

She looked at the child especially, surveying him and then set her eyes on the Acolyte. Ophidia never had much patience for children and preferred to keep them at a certain distance. Working as one of the One Sith's assassins, she had become quite adept at reading people from their appearance. Cath had the air of aristocracy around her, someone who had been given everything on a silver platter. The child was more difficult, as children were, though his eyes were quite odd. She shot Cath a look that suggested she got back to her work. She was there to learn something, after all.

Sage watched the students diligently working on their gems. Thank the Force they were all quiet now. Well, all but another student, a blue-skinned Balosar hybrid, who raised her hand with a question about the symmetry of the gem.

"You must polish and prepare the gem exactly as I specified," he insisted. "Or the amulet will be incredibly weak, and you will have yourself a pretty, but useless, bauble. No cutting corners, dear Apprentice."

Even though some of the students were still hunched over their gem polishing tools, he continued with the lesson. He was a busy Sith Lord, with no time for students who lagged behind. Adapt or die. It was the Sith way. He paid no mind to the child in the corner of the room as it seemed that one of the Acolytes had graciously offered to babysit it.

"Now then," Sage continued, his voice becoming hoarse from so much infernal talking. "The next step involves, the making of Sith runes, ancient symbols which can be carved into almost any object. The smart Alchemist uses a durable material for the carving, like stone, but clay and wood can work as well. The first rune you will carve into the gem itself, and it is the rune of bonding."

The Sith Lord held up a Corusca gem with a rune of bonding inscribed on it. Then, Sage held up a small disc-shaped stone decorated with scrawled lines.

"This is the UR Rune, a Sith Rune of that gives an artifact added protection. This is the rune that will be going in the amulet that I am making, but you will put a different rune in yours. I encourage you to study all of the various Sith runes in the Eternal Library, and become intimately familiar with them. Students, here is the most exciting thing about Sith Alchemy. Although they are powerful, you are not limited to the existing runes of the ancients. You can make your own. It is just a matter of mastering the High Sith alphabet."

Clearing his throat, he added, "The amulet or talisman needs both runes to work properly."

Late. Greta was late. Once again. She had been caught up in reading, all concern for the time forgotten. The blonde acolyte grunted and moaned in exasperation and frustration respectively as she rushed through the majestic doorway entrances of the Temple of Pain. The class had most definitely started by now, and she rushed with such a speed that even amazed her. Perhaps she was more interested in the learning of Sith Alchemy than she thought. As Greta ran through the entrances of the forge halls where the class was supposed to gather, she almost ran into a small boy by the doorway.

What was the child doing here?
Was he another acolyte seeking training?
He looked awfully young.

Giving the child nothing more than a few curious glances, Greta made her way past the boy and into the hall itself. It was also then that she gave her apology to the Sith Lord. "My apologies for being so late, Lord Bane. I got caught up in reading and lost track of time." Flashing an apologetic smile, the acolyte gave off a hasty bow before resuming her position, attempting to look for a empty seat. Greta's appearance was its usual immaculate self, her dirty blonde hair falling off her shoulders, not a strand out of place. Apart from her usual outfit, she had on a nondescript black Sith robe.

The class seemed to be already underway, and Greta would be ashamed if she wasn't so excited about the prospect of learning something new. She had heard so much about Sith Alchemy and its plethora of uses. While looking out for a seat, she gave a quick glance across the room, coming across some recognisable figures. She also recognised the Sith knight, [member="Darth Ophidia"], the acolyte's own master herself, [member="Darth Venefica"]. Taking up the empty seat beside the Rattataki, she began to settle into her seat, trying her best to catch up for what she had missed.

Sage raised an eyebrow at the latecomer, Acolyte Kohler. She had some nerve daring to traipse into his class late, and he certainly wasn't going to go back over his instructions for her. In fact, she was lucky he didn't throw her into the Forge. Her only saving graces? She was apologetic, respectful, and very easy on the eyes. His brown eyes flashed a glowing crimson color as he chastised her.

"Don't let it happen again, Acolyte Kohler."

Sage turned back to the class, turning the runes over in his palms.

"The rest of the Amulet, you will make on your own. Once you have cast the physical aspects of the piece, for example silversmithed the chain and pendant, the Sith Spell of bonding must be repeated ritually upon the device. For this portion of the crafting, you'll need to call upon a Sith magician who knows that particular spell, unless you learn the spell yourself, of course. There are of course, magicians here at the Temple who can assist with this, but their time is valuable. My recommendation is, if you are serious about your Alchemy, to learn the spell yourself."

As Sage talked, he walked through the rows of students, every now and then pausing to smile or frown at one's work.

"The Sith Spell of bonding must be cast on your finished object, once at dawn and once at dusk for three consecutive days, and the magician must also fast during this period. If the magician breaks the fast, the entire process will have been for naught."

The Sith Lord finished his lecture back in front of the class. His hands clapped together.

"That students, is how you make a minor Sith Amulet. Does anyone have any questions?"

He couldn't see a thing. He was only able to trust on the force. He was very depended on its guidance. He had only hoped that he would someday find people, but he couldn't see and did not know who would've been around him, when he entered the temple of pain. The moment he was heard by one of them, it was a delight to him....finally someone...Who might be able to help him. His reaction time was at a near instance. This was only a given since he did not have his vision any longer and he got used to using his other senses of hearing. They weren't at its optimum use yet, but the way, he was able to use his disadvantage to an advantage was quite an unique grow.

He turned to the Sith, Cath Lorr. The black substance within his eyes were showing across his face. He showed a frail smile across his face. A delighted inhale and exhale was made and he looked in her direction but without making eye contact. He did not know where her eyes were located. "Frail one? Do you mean me?" A moment of silent came and he continued to speak, "I want to know, where am I? I have been following voices, which changed every few...hours maybe?" He said raising his shoulders, but currently he wasn't scared at all. He was actually feeling the dark impulses of the Sith around him and having been within a Sith Spawn forest for quite a while helped him to negate such effects into his heart as long as he wouldn't be striked personally.

Suddenly from the side, he could hear Sage continuing on a lesson, what was it about? He couldn't quite understand but the word Sith told him enough and he bit his lips and thought, "That men knew, I would go to them...Those voices?"

Rude Pretty Boy was rude. He was certainly not getting a good review on RateYourSithProfessor.com from her. So much for getting that extra sugar boost. Stomach echoed her emotional protest with a grumble of its own.

Fingers lazily twirled in the air as the amulet was polished. It only hit the desk once with a resounding CLUNK. Otherwise, her TK was pretty gorram good. So good, it allowed the rest of her to be lazy. She even floated it over to the forge and plucked it back out while straightening in her slouch by just a few inches.

Brown-eyes widened at Pretty Boy's instructions. Fingers came to clamp hard on the edges of her desk, a befuddled expression crossing her freckled-face. She sat up straight. Such a rarity which only came with shock and surprise.

"Wait. WHAT. Something this minor requires getting up AT DAWN for THREE days In. A. Row. AND the WHOLE time not eating anything?"

The feth.

Yeah, she was definitely going to con some younger kid to do this for her or hire someone.

Her first ever Sith Alchemy infused amulet was almost complete. All that remained now was to carve the runes into a material of her choosing. Lord Bane said stone worked well, but clay and wood could work as well. As it would appear, she had no wood, clay, or stone with her. What she did have was bones of various shapes and sizes cut from different areas of the body. Bone may not be as strong as stone, but it was strong enough.
Shifting through her memory banks, she searched for the rune she thought would be fitting for such an object. Then it came to her. For this project she would inscribe on the bone the ancient Dinara rune, designed to hurt or damage the living or objects.
Methodically and taking great care, she slowly began to carve the rune's symbols into the surface of the dry bone. The process was tedious but well worth the effort, especially when the end result was something she could put to use at once. When the last symbol was etched, she held the newly transformed bone out in front of her, examining her handiwork. She done well.
Unfortunately she didn't know the binding spell, but she knew who did. With a slight nod to Lord Bane, she excused herself to go drum of the Sith wizard from his slumber. It may be rude of her to disturb the old man at such an hour, but he was indebted to her. It was time to collect what was owed to her.

As Greta settled into her seat, she took several glances at the gems that had been placed on the desk to be used for the students in a bid to learn how to craft a simple Sith amulet. She was not completely helpless, as she had done her homework before coming in here. It was one of the reasons why she was late for class. Because she was reading up on class. The irony was not lost on her.

The acolyte took up the amber crystal in her hands, fondling it as she studied the crystal. A Corsuca Crystal. She had heard mention of it once or twice, but otherwise knew nothing extensive about it. They were known to be extremely rare and valuable. Using the tools provided on the table, Greta began polishing away at her gem, taking great care to ensure that she did it the right way, yet obtaining the smooth oval shape she desired. The shaping was hardly perfect, but it was good enough, considering the small amount of time she had spent on it. Her productivity increased as she got into stride, and soon enough she was catching up to the rest of her classmates.

Preparing the pieces of crystals as Lord Bane had instructed, while waiting for the next step to be mentioned. And then there it was, rune making. That was next. She had done a brief read on the runes earlier, and one had caught her attention. The Velinar rune. It was a rune to conjure fire or heat to burn things. And people. Just things in general.

Greta liked burning things. It was the inner pyromaniac in her. Grasping a loose pebble, she began carving out the shape of the rune as she remembered, making sure to start with the circle in the middle, before moving on to the curved edges on the side of the rune pattern. She then started working on carving out the outline of a bat with its wings spread out wide on a disc of silver.

Once he had finished with the immaculate oval shape of his crystal, which had cost him some time but he was a perfectionist when it came to somethings and this was one of them. As he stood up he noticed the boy that was next to the Umbaran acolyte had decided to talk to. 'He's blind? but he's force sensitive.... interesting..' He thought as he smiled to the boy, being able to see with the force made it hard for others not trained in it to hide from his sight. He knew it was like pissing in the wind to smile at the boy but he did it for himself as he then moved to purify the chain and crystal in the pool. Opting to follow the clothe bundles idea and used telekinesis to dip each into the bubbling pool opting to dip them twice for good measure.
Taking his gem into his hand he looked to the forge and then to Lord Bane. "My lord I take it we won't be using the forge then?" He had to ask as he was making the gem inlay with his hands but made his head look towards Bane to show respect. Into the inlay he carved the rune of bonding and then with a small molding of metal he covered the back of the pendant with the Tonka Rune from the sith language. It was the rune for Lightning and he added another Rune called the Korribunious Rune which was used to empower another rune, with this he was sure he was empowering his own Force Lightning.
Once he was done with the completed look of the pendant he poured his force into the pendant, this was mostly so he could see it perfectly but also to make the gem attuned to him. Now he was satisfied with the pendant and only had to find a sorcerer to teach him and do the ritual of bonding with him.
Once he was leaving he stopped next to the boy and placed his hand on his shoulder and spoke calmly. "The force is with you boy and with it you can see... If you wish to learn this skill find me again." He said as he then left the room. He removed his blind fold and rubbed his non functioning eyes before he placed it over his eyes again.

Acolyte Kohler entered the room, late it would seem. Ophidia spared her a moment's smile when she sat down, and kept half an eye on her work in case she was unable to give up. When she was still an Acolyte, she would not have given one crawling kark about another, but as she had started teaching herself, she had found a certain joy in watching the progression of others and perhaps giving a vital clue. However, it did not seem Greta needed her aid, she was catching up just fine on her own.

One rune on the stone for binding, one rune for the desired effect. Rune of bonding would be on the stone, while the rune of the desired effect was recommended attached to a second object of a durable substance. Then there was the Spell of bonding, first cast upon completion then cast again every dawn and dusk for three days. Not too complicated then. Darth Ophidia carved the Rune of Bonding into the gem with steady hands, creating a rather smooth, yet sharp quality to the rune. One could say, she had a knack for cutting things. Previously to the class, she had looked up the desired runes and instructions for the spell of bonding. The bald-headed woman started rummaging her robes for the flimsiplast note. She found it eventually, and unfolded it on the workdesk in front of her.

Within the sheet also lay a small, round metal disk. She studied the rune scrawled on the flimsiplast and started engraving the lines elegantly in the metal. It was a rune of the Mind, one she had found would greatly amplify her ability to dominate the minds of others. Which, incidentally, was another skill she had learned from Sage Bane. Ophidia found it very useful in her work as an Assassin. Why go to the great lengths it sometimes takes to kill someone when you can have them kill themselves? Now, this amulet would grant her a little extra 'unf'. She carved it delicately into the metal plate, then put it beside her gem as she begun silversmithing the elements that would hold the entire talisman together. Forming a serpent coiling around the corusca gem and holding the round disk in its mouth.

Perhaps if she had not been set on this path of violence, she could have been a jeweler.

A few more Sith students, including a child, entered the Dark Forge. Bellatrix wasn't normally shy but being in the presence of all of these other acolytes, knights and lords did intimidate her. I'm not like them, she thought, acutely feeling lower in rank than the rest of the class. They were free to come and go. She was not.

But again, no one would really be able to tell she was a slave, so with this in mind, she took her gem and followed Lord Bane's instructions on polishing. She also looked around at the other students to compare and see if she was doing it correctly.

Now it was time to make the rune. She picked up her carving tool and began to work on the stone. However, as much as she tried, she struggled, probably more than the other students. The half-Chiss had almost always been a dancer and hadn't any formal education or training. Combat she knew as well as some other tricks that made her valuable to the pirate crew. But she was nervous to ask for help and only kept hacking and slashing at the stone. I'm probably spoiling it, she mused.

She cleared her throat and asked Bane a question: "Could my amulet eliminate pain? And if so, what type of rune do I need?"

When it was his turn at the cauldron Vengeance stepped forward slipping on a pair of gloves and set to work. He only paused to give Sage his undivided attention when the Sith Lord began to explain the next step in the process. It seemed Vengeance would be carving runes into the crystal. Something that undoubtable took a measure of skill and patience so as to not damage the Crystal or mess up the rune itself.

He listened thoughtfully to what Sage had said about the remaining process. Especially the part about bugging the Magicians in the temple to complete the process. Vengeance was a man who mostly used the saber and the occasional bolt of lightening but had not really considered the options of Alchemy or Sith Magic as apparently some had often called it.

As he finished his work in front of the Cauldron Vengeance debated his options. Surely he could devote a few months to some of the minor spells without sacrificing the other aspects of his training.

"Ah good. more questions," said the Sith Lord, his voice tinged with less enthusiasm than he would have liked. Sage addressed Acolyte Zebron first.

"Using the Forge in amulet making depends entirely on the piece. For example, you may need the Forge to melt down specific metals such a durasteel or alum. Or you may want to shape the metals according to your own unique design. As I said before, your imagination is your only limitation with making these types of artifacts."

Secondly, Bane addressed Acolyte Celvina, ignoring the lazy, sweater-clad apprentice who was questioning the labor involved in the process. As much as Sage would have liked to put Miss Skycrawler in her place, he surmised that her own apathy would ultimately be her undoing. It was a shame that the student was so insistent on being such a waste of space. Perhaps he would put her to work cleaning out the Sithspawn cages later.

"The rune depends entirely on what kind of pain you want to eliminate," he explained. "If it's mental pain, you could use the Arabat Rune, which is a rune of the mind. If it's physical pain, you could use the Hebr Rune, the rune of life."

Sage could see that the process was challenging to the young, doe-eyed apprentice, and perhaps the lesson was going over her head. She seemed to be struggling a bit more than the other students, who were all lightyears ahead of her in their crafting. Instead of the usual Sith disdain for weakness, her struggles gave him a pang of sympathy. She had the cowed look of a slave about her and as a former slave himself, he felt a rare soft spot for the blue-skinned student.

"I can help you," he offered. "Once class is over, come see me in the Eternal Library and we will find the right the runes for you."

While immersed in her work, she was not too immersed to pick up on a potential weakness when she saw one. Though her loyalty to the One Sith had grown considerably since she joined and rose in ranks, she did still have the habit and the pleasure of picking up on the soft spots of her fellow Sith. Everyone had them, [member="Darth Pyrrhus"] had his blondes, and apparently [member="Sage Bane"] had a soft spot for slaves. Funny, considering the way he had employed slaves in teaching Mentalism. Perhaps it was specifically a soft spot for the freed, force sensitive slave. She would surely have to look into the origin of it.

Distractions. She went back to working on the final touches of her amulet. encasing the corusca gem in the silver serpent, and attaching the metal disk with the mind-rune. She then opened her little flimsiplast 'notebook, containing certain names and significant spells she had use of, and flitted through the pages until she found the one containing the desired information: The Spell of Bonding. Sage Bane had said one should learn the spell if one was serious about Alchemy. There was hardly a thing Ophidia was not serious about when it came down to unravelling the mysteries of the Force. Some would say overly serious.

Upon physical completion, Darth Ophidia inspected her bauble. It felt solid, nicely fastened and not too heavy. She was pleased with it. Closing her eyes, she exhaled and gathered herself. She would need full concentration for the spell. One slip-up and it would all be in vain.

Brown-eyes blinked as she was ignored. She knew which page from the Hot Sith Lords Calendar she was gonna rip to shreds and throw away when she got back to her dorm. Huffing the brown-bangs away from her ordinary eyes, she began to gather the finished pieces of the amulet, stuffing them into her tattered satchel.

Lame.

With no small amount of energy, she got to her feet and shuffled from the training room, flipping Sage Bane the deuces peace-out sign as she left. He was lucky. She almost flipped him the bird.

Greta's progress slowed as she slipped up. She had been so caught up in the selection of her rune that she didn't realise what she was doing wrong until she saw what her neighbour was doing. She had two runes with her as opposed to her one. Then the acolyte realised her mistake. One rune for binding, and the other for the desired effect. Of course, she knew that. But, somehow it did not come to her after all. So much for information retention.

So now, she had to select another rune. Consulting her little flimsiplast notebook that she had written down the runes in,she eventually settled on the Korribunious rune. The Rune of Power. This was a rune known to magnify the power of any rune and to add balance to the runes structure. But Greta was not entirely sure of her choice just yet. She decided to seek the advice of the master himself, tossing a question at the Sith Lord, [member="Sage Bane"].

"Lord Bane! If I choose this rune here-" The young sith said as she raised her flimsiplast notebook in the air, with her fingers pointing to the diagram of the second rune of power she had selected. "-Will this enhance the abilities of my first rune? Will I be able to make pretty fires?" Excitement glinted in her eyes as she posed the query to the Sith Lord.

As Greta waited for her answer, she casually gave a glance towards what her neighbour was up too right now. She saw the Rattataki carving the rune onto the gem with hardly any effort at all, totally like a professional. Such a pro, wow. Just another thing she had to add to her list of why she admired the Sith Knight. As she began working on her amulet, encasing the gem within the silver serpent she had in her hand, the acolyte felt somewhat inadequate at the roughly carved shape of a bat on the silver disc she had earlier. Hers was not nearly as smooth compared to the shapely serpent her neighbour had. Sigh.

The Rattataki then took out a flimsiplast notebook and began reading into detail about something on its pages. Greta then slided across ever so slowly, in an attempt to peek at what [member="Darth Ophidia"] was reading so intently at.

Pretty fires. She was reminded of the fire-shaping she had seen on Ord Mirit. Now those were pretty fires. Flame as black as the void, all consuming. She shuddered a little on the thought of it, and then she felt something... someone, coming close. Eyes peering in her direction. Greta Kohler, good reputation and many feats of courage, but surprisingly low rank. Quite the eye-catcher too, if one were to pick up on those interests.

"If you must know, Acolyte Kohler. It's the Spell of Binding. If you wish, you may borrow my notes later. Saves you a trip to the library. Unless you prefer the original source, of course."

Her pale eyes shifted to the blonde woman next to her, a finger on her left hand marking where she was in her reading. It was something one easily picked up on doing when reading became vital. She surveyed the work Greta had done and reached over to her own tools. With a deft movement of her hand she picked up one of the finer polishing tools and twirled it between her fingers before presenting it to her neighbour.

"Try this one. I think yours may be dulled." She gestured with her chin at Greta's tools "I like your bat, by the way. It's rough, but it will look good. Don't rush it. The finest objects take time."

She offered a smile before going back to her reading on the spell. The inky black finger of her left hand -as opposed to the ashen grey of her right- resumed tracing along the paper as she delved into the finer aspects of the process. Alchemy was not a process measured in speed, but in the effect of the final product. It would be better to stay longer and work more thoroughly than rush to the finish-line and have an inadequate result. The teacher in her wished she could help the acolyte with the subject of runes, but she had not enough understanding of the subject. Which in turn only strengthened her resolve to learn the subject.
