Power Begets Knowledge (Open to all OS Members)

dpf4gL6.jpg
Location: The Temple of Pain, Fresia

The Jedi called it “an affront to the Living Force.” Others in the galaxy called it “monster-making.” Some used it for making weapons of legend. Others used it to try and reach immortality.

It was Sith Alchemy, and its secrets were about to be unlocked on the world of Fresia, a One Sith-controlled planet with the largest Alchemical basin in the galaxy. The basin allowed the Dark Side of the Force to flow freely and powerfully through the newly-opened Temple of Pain, a training school built by Sith Lord and burgeoning Alchemist, Sage Bane. The dark energy that filled the Temple, from its Hall of Sorrows to its Eternal Libraries, allowed its students and practitioners to learn at a more rapid pace. Where there was power, knowledge followed. It was the way of the Sith. After months of laborious construction, the monumental Temple of Pain was finally open to Acolytes and Masters alikes, and only the imagination held the limit of what dark arts could be practiced inside of its walls.

Bathed in the fiery blood-orange light of the Dark Forge, Sage Bane waited with his arms folded behind his back, head down, meditating on the Dark Side. Soon, all manner of black-cloaked apprentices would arrive to learn how to make minor Sith Amulets. Now if only he could teach Acolyte Raeth, his own apprentice, how to be less of an arrogant, ungrateful whelp. That would be a legendary feat indeed.

OOC Stuff
This thread is open to all members of the One Sith for Sith Alchemy training and development. If you want to learn or practice Sith Alchemy, this is the thread for you. You can follow one of the three objectives below, or do your own thing. If you want to self-train and need help, there are some good Sith Alchemy links in the Sith Library on our Faction forum.

I ask that there be no fighting in this thread as it will interfere with other members’ training. Additionally, I know that we have some IC traitors in our midsts, but sabotaging the temple in this thread is not allowed. If you want to do a story like that, PM me, we’ll talk. This thread is not the place for it, however.

If anyone is interested in teaching something in this thread, PM me, and I will add another objective for your class.

Objectives:
1) Group training class. Learn how to make minor Sith Amulets from Sage Bane
2) Self-training in the Dark Forget. Make or alchemize a weapon in the Dark Forge (Just be mindful of your level, if you are an Acolyte or new to Alchemy, start with something small, like taking an existing weapon and learning how to make it light-saber resistant, once you've mastered that you can move on to bigger things)
3) Self-training in the Laboratories. Experiment with Sith Spawning and transmuting creatures. (Knight and Master level only)
4) Do your own thing

Please use this template to mark where your character is and tag Sage Bane if you are learning from him.

The Dagobah Sith, Darth Venefica, arrived a second time to the planet of Fresia to not only study the craft known as Sith Alchemy but to enhance and build upon the knowledge she already possessed. There were several projects she wished to work on, some had failed in earlier tests, to perfect some wicked and mind bending instruments of destruction.
Amulets, rings, and other trinkets of bones rested in a small red and green satchel that rested against her left thigh. Her little bag of treats she brought served only one real purpose. To be used and cast away as she unlocked the mysteries of the Sith Alchemy and the Forge itself, knowing that it would take time to achieve her perfect success. Nothing precious would be used right now, not until she had a complete understanding of what she was attempting to do. Failure was something she was already prepared to deal with.
Completing her own personal tour of the temple, she moved to a secluded room which she would claim as her personal quarters. Dropping the satchel at her feet, she withdrew her lightsaber and placed it gently next to the bag on the floor. One deep intake of breath and she could feel the immense power of the Darkside flowing all around her. This was good. She would rely heavily on the Darkside to aid her in the creation and learning process.
Plopping down on the floor opposite of the bag and facing the single entrance/exit to the room, she crossed her legs over one another and extended her hands and arms out in front. Slowly she began to close her eyes, allowing her mind to settle while she began to fall into a deep meditation trance. She would pray to the spirits of past Sith Alchemists to lend both their knowledge and hands in helping her to determine what it was she truly wished to create in the end. She had a small idea of what she wanted, but it was more about the journey than the destination itself.

Even though Cath Lorr was still licking her wounds from a visit to the laboratory at the Temple of Pain which got a little of control as Sith Lords vied for power and prestige, she had merely been a bystander and only genuinely wanted to inspect the state-of-the-art science facility. But the Umbaran got more than she bargained for, and she still wore the bandage on her left arm from Sage Bane's electricity attack.

She, however, remained as a guest in order to take a Sith Amulet crafting class that Lord Bane happened to be teaching that day. The laboratory attack had left her clothing and shoes stained with the blood of murdered contractors and failed Sith experiments, so she had to change her clothing and found a spare Acolyte robe in a room adjacent to the one in which Bane was teaching. Stifling a bit of outrage, she tossed her ruined garments in a trash bin, including her favorite red embroidered shoes. The Acolyte would go barefoot now like some peasant and not the Rootai royalty she was accustomed to being on Umbara.

She entered the room, careful not to disturb Bane as she had already directly experienced his wrath and did not need to repeat that harrowing experience. With a frozen, doll-like stare that could only be described as "Umbaran," she took a seat and waited for the class to begin. The dim light of the Dark Forge made her feel quite at home being one of the Shadow People.

There was no such thing as totally mastering the arts of Sith Alchemy or Sorcery, any comptent 'master' of the art readily accepted and acknowledged this truth. Throughout the lives of each Sith Lord that practiced these arts their knowledge and wisdom were built on the foundations of their predecessors, only to be lost during the various purges of the many orders of the Sith throughout history. Such was why the holocrons of such ancient and powerful Sith Lords existed, to preserve the knowledge that may one day be lost from word of mouth. While she was not an unrivaled master of sorcery - she still attributed that to her one-time savior, Rave Merrill - Atrophia was still known primarily for her mastery of the art, having rendered the skies over Manaan black and blinded the armies of the Ession Order on Kashyyk with her wide-spread waves of darkness. The more imprecise methods of Sith magic had always been where the Sith Lord had been most comfortable at - altering their effects at will, much like the living force that ebbed and flowed within her veins. The deception of the dark side was just as much to blame for the sundering of the Grand Master of the Jedi Order's proverbial wings as her lack of using it was - simply the presence, or lack of, the dark side was enough to instill doubt in one's self. It was why the Sorceress had delved so heartily into its cold embrace, going so far as to become as close to it as she could - a biological anomaly afforded by the arts of alchemy itself, an engineering process done on her several times while still living, the experience as painful as it was enlightening. She had attributed her perversion and loss of innocence at the hands of Darth Praelior to be the source of her interest in the alchemy of Sith magic.

The years had gone by from her initial venture into Magic and Alchemy and a quest had been embarked upon with two Sith Lords at its helm - the quest for the legendary holocron of Naga Sadow, master of Alchemy and Sorcery. It was from this great device that the Sith Lord had learned much of her knowledge, constructing a far more stable foundation to build upon as she grew in its ever-expansive lore. It had never been her place to actively pursue drastic performances of the force prior to the current day, seeing it as egocentric and foolishly prideful, but times were changing and the altered body granted by the One Sith's hierarchy prior to her own ascension to knighthood, and subsequent Lordship and brief tenure as the Dark Lord's Voice of the first sector, was quickly stagnating in its use. In truth there would never be a permanent removal of the attributes placed upon Silara as a teenager by the former voice, but what was needed was instead a substantial alteration. While Atrophia had often created her own creatures and beasts of war, such as the ever-vicious Terentatek, she rarely deviated into a creativity that extended beyond the normal assortment of creatures that walked the many planets where the dark side was most concentrated. However, today was time for a change in pace. The Sith Lord had often been subject to visions of the future, which thus far have appeared to have come true without fail - eerily so, and she could feel the curb quickly approaching. If it were to be a moment of great tribulation or a moment that resulted in her end, she would face it prepared and on her own terms. She stood virtually alone, staring off into the expanse of the facility built specifically for the biological horrors of Sith Alchemy and wondered where she might best operate on herself.

A soft, snoring sound could be heard from what looked like a lump of clothes with a fuzzy-lined hoodie. Said lump of clothes was not disturbed by the entering of two sith lords or her knife-wielding foe from not-too-long ago. It was doubtful any of said sith lords found their speeders on the roof, yet.

She signed up for the Forge Class for many reasons. Deep down she wanted to learn. It was dark and warm, perfect for resting. Both reasons had equal value in the quirky girl's mind. Unfortunately, the docket said Pretty Boy was teaching. But she was prepared. Today, she had on some rubber boots and some uncooked marshmallows stuffed within the endless pockets of her coats.

A brown-eye peeked lazily opened as it fell on Cath. The girl looked as stiff as a doll. Probably cold and needed a sweater.

Eclipsion, while already an experience knight, still had things to learn. She came back to the Temple Of Pain to study and learn about the practices, effects and actions that participating in Sith Alchemy entailed. While she was surrounded by curious acolytes, the Chiss ignored all the curiosity that pervaded the attitudes of the Acolytes. She casually strolled up the steps of the Temple and entered the grand halls of the Temple. Eclipsion seriously doubted coming back here due to the...events that occured with Zambrano the Hutt the last time she was here, but she brushed it aside for the pursuit of knowlege.

"Excuse me, but who here is educating Sith on Alchemy?" She asked generally in the crowded hall.

T'zanith entered the temple of pain, his tattered robes bellowing in the wind that persisted outside the temple. He had come to search for knowledge, after the events of his holocron he wanted to be able to prove worthy of it's gatekeepers continued knowledge. As he walked into the main hall he had a pleased smile, the temple was so seeped in the darkside of the force it was like he had normal eyes and could see it perfectly as it's vibrant appearance was astounding.
He knew were to go to learn alchemy as he knew it would come in handy to at the very least have the basics of it in the future if he wouldn't build on it when he grew in power. He walked passed a chiss, he believed, and overheard her ask the crowded hall. "It is Lord bane, I beleive he is waiting in the forge hall." He said as he passed her in the crowd and gave her a light but respectful gesture to follow him to it. He had gotten a rough description of the layout so he could quickly get to were he needed to go from an acolyte that had witness the "grand opening" of the temple.
Once he entered the Forge he greeted [member="Sage Bane"] with a bow and then took a seat next to what he could only describe as a bundle of clothes. He sat on his legs as he awaited for the lesson to start, however he felt a little uneasy with the amount of powerful sith gathered in the temple, since being in close proximity to them caused T'zanith's force vision to distort unless he was used to it. Something he was working on to train up.

When her black and red-flecked eyes eventually snapped open, she felt more connected to the Darkside despite the natural affinity she possessed due to her species. She was more than ready to begin working on mastering her craft of Sith Alchemy. Rising to her feet, she gripped her weapon placing it back in it's resting place and began sifting through the bag she brought along, looking for nothing in particular. These objects were merely stepping stones.
Now with a few trinkets and bones in her hands, she headed toward the Forge itself to see what she could muster up. She had no delusions she would succeed in her fist attempts, but that was not her purpose today. Today, she would learn something about herself and infusing alchemy into objects. For a Sith, she held great amounts of patience and was in no hurry to churn out successful creations. She had time, clearing her schedule for these exercises, and would utilize it efficiently.
On her way toward the Forge, she made a slight detour to speak with [member="Sage Bane"], whom she knew held more knowledge in this than she did. Asking questions to seek answers she did not know was not beneath her. She had pride, but she had controlled pride. Spotting the Beautiful One in the halls, she moved up to him.
"Lord Bane, she began adding a smoothness to her voice. "I'm on my way to the Forge and I seek some advice. Any advice really on how to begin...what I should look for...and what I should be wary of."

Out of the corner of her sunken eyes, Cath spied the Sith abomination snoring from her desk in the makeshift lecture room. Apparently they just let it loose to roam among the regular Acolytes and Knights. Maybe it was a helper of sorts, fetching instruments and supplies for more powerful Sith Instructors. Or perhaps the creature was lost on its way back to the laboratory and stopped in this room to take a nap.

The Umbaran’s upper lip curled in a sneer, but kept her eyes on Sage Bane, waiting for the training to begin. Another couple students entered the Dark Forge and Cath recognized one of them from the laboratory attack, a dark-haired Chiss.

Then a third Sith Lord came in and began speaking at length to Bane. The pale Acolyte shifted in her seat, boredom beginning to make her fidgety.

“Ahem,” Cath said from her seat in the back.

“Just when is this class going to begin?” she asked in a high, thin voice, steeped in impudence.

Yet Cath didn’t feel she was being rude. She was merely trying to be helpful in letting [member="Sage Bane"] and [member="Darth Venefica"] know that the entire class was waiting on them as if they had nothing better to do than sit there all day in silence staring at the backs of their heads as they discussed Alchemy.

Sage's eyes snapped open as he woke from his reverie. He cast a glance around the class at the students curious enough to look into the void of Sith Alchemy and lock eyes with the monster that looked back. As he studied the pupils, he noticed a very lackadaisical young Acolyte with her head down on the desk, smacking her lips as she woke from what seemed to be a luxurious nap. Was she homeless? Sage cleared his throat. Loudly. Several times. Then turning to his more awake students, he took a moment to answer their questions before they begun.

He first turned to [member="Lord Eclipsion"], the Chiss, and blinked. "I am teaching the basics of Amulet-making. If you would like to participate, the class is about to begin."

His eyes lit up as the young Hand saw Darth Venefica elbow her way into the room. She asked him about things to be wary about in the pursuit of Sith Alchemy as well as how to begin. Voice raised, his answer was loud enough for the whole class to hear.

"Master Venefica. I would say the most important aspect of Sith Alchemy is concentration. Any disturbance, miscalculation, or loss in train of thought, could result in death or disaster. As far as where to begin, I'd say a good place to begin would be practicing Alchemy on the non-living first, making foci and weapons. Alchemical work with the living always adds a more difficult layer to the practice."

A high-pitched voice pierced the air. One of the students wanted to know when the class was starting. Acolytes were so impatient these days! Sage turned to Acolyte Lorr, an Umbaran troublemaker he had seen before in the Temple and answered her through gritted teeth.

"This class begins as soon as impudent little Acolytes learn to be quiet," he hissed, eyes flashing red.

Despite Nulgaths opinion about the Temple of Pain, He personally found its book, texts and ancient forms of knowledge all very useful. Alone in the Eternal Library the Epicanthix continued to read and study about various topics. Force illusions, Galactic History, Sith magic and over all experimentation. His current read was a book on Force bound Illusions and how to manifest these illusions in different ways. Nulgath knew from reading a book a small bit was gained but the real experience came from actual practice.

Faintly in the background the Epicanthix could hear a class of sorts in session. Nulgath found it interesting that mere Acolytes could even be allow in such a place and roam freely. Temple of Pain was no play ground and was vastly more dangerous than the Sith Temple on Coruscant.

T'zanith smiled a little when [member="Sage Bane"] tounge lashed [member="Cath Lorr"] like he did. His sight was strained but he was still able see relatively ok, though the two sith lords were like large glow sticks in the room were they stood. With a patient exhale he raised his hand to ask a question, something like respect must be given in order to receive it and respecting one's obvious better was a good way to stay alive in the sith, at least by his experience.
His question was two fold when he was allowed to ask by Lord Bane, the first was what would they be learning to do with a simple trinket such as a ring with alchemy and would they be making something specific. The other would be if they could come to him with a specific item that they wanted to create could they.
What T'zanith wanted to make was a ring that would allow him to understand and read the Sith language while he had it on as well as be able to do something similar to what an amulet that belonged to an ancient sith lord called Exar kun had, though at a much, much smaller scale. To him being able to unleash a dark side energy burst would be a good trump card.

Vengeance had slipped into the Temple quietly his hood pulled down. Not one to really be concerned with the finer points of Alchemy his was however interested in what potential amulets had in assisting with his goals. There were a few in the room he knew. [member="Darth Venefica"] of course he had met on Dagobah, @T'zanith Zebron from the recently training session he had been doing using Force Lightening on droids. The others were largely unknown to him except the apparent instructor for this session. He did not recall having ever formally met [member="Sage Bane"] but it was a name he had heard way to often to even think about forgetting it.

Positioned about the center of the group of would be students Vengeance simply looked and listened being uncharacteristically quiet. Any urge he had to say anything had been squashed by Sage's impudent little acolytes comment.

Although she had touched on to -and been touched by- the subject of Alchemy before, she had never had a fully formal introduction. And one could never go wrong with another introductory class, the basics were always important. And where better to learn than at th site of the greatest alchemical basin in the galaxy? She remembered well how the planet's population had been gathered like cattle and slaughtered by Darth Ferus to create the aforementioned basin. The anguish, the horror, the tremor it sent through the Force as millions were consumed, it was something one does not easily forget. Now, there stood a grand structure on the site. Equipped like a monument celebrating the art of Sith Alchemy and the pursuit of dark knowledge. It was truly a splendid sight.

Ophidia quietly claimed a place at the front, but off centre, so as to be discreet in her presence, but also catch all the little details of the lessons. Some of the Acolytes looked impatient, and some spoke far too much. Ophidia remained quiet and simply watched. If her gaze connected to that of [member="Darth Venefica"], she would offer a small nod in greeting. Nothing that would disrupt the class, but an acknowledgement of a higher ranking lady of the Sith, and an individual of whom she had much admiration. Of course, she would offer the same courtesy to Sage Bane, but she could not bow her head for him every time. That would be ridiculous and unreasonable. It was a class after all.

Clearing of throat from Pretty Boy. Doll-girl getting in trouble. Hehe. Bracelet making - no - amulet making. Wait. This guy was going to teach a jewelry making class? Brown-eyes blinked, fully awake and she sat up a little straighter in her chair. By sitting up straighter, it was more of a half-slouch. Still very comfortable, which was obviously, the number one priority.

While most students built their training and classes around vigorous classes and interests in hopes of rocketing themselves ahead of the growing sith pack for galaxy domination, Ally was more concerned with picking classes that fit her schedule. Later afternoons, sometimes evenings. Absolutely nothing in the AM. Nothing that required sweating. Yup, being a sith acolyte without a master was living the sweet life.

Stifling a yawn, she reached into one of her many pockets and took out a sugar stick. Ripping open one end with a semi-loud CRUNCH-ZZZT, she tipped her head back to savor the sugary powder.

As Sage addressed his group of students, he noticed not all of them were paying complete attention, for example the young woman dwarfed by her many oversized sweaters. He let it be for now, after all, it was her precious time she was wasting, not his. There was one thing he couldn't abide by however, and that was eating in class. With a wave of his hand, he ripped the sugary packet out of her hands using the Force. It was flung into the forge, where it made a pleasant crackling sound as it burned to a crisp. This was a Dark Forge, not a cafeteria, after all.

"Now then," said Sage. "To first answer your question, Acolyte Zebron. Today we are going to make a minor Sith amulet that will give you a boost to a power that you already possess. Once you become more adept at crafting Sith amulets, your imagination is the limit. If there is something specific you want to make, I'll be happy to help you in any way, provided that you, Acolyte, do all of the work involved."

The Sith Lord walked around the room and handed everyone a brilliant amber crystal, along with some gem polishing tools. "Many precious gems can be crafted into amulets and talismans, but these happen to be Corsuca crystals. Be careful with them, for they are extremely rare. First you must polish and cut the gems in perfectly symmetrical shapes to allow the maximum amount of energies to be channeled and stored within them."

He walked over to a large cauldron, which bubbled menacingly. "Second, you must prepare the mold for the crystal inlay, as well as the pendant and chain. Any metals used in crafting the amulet must be purified and sterilized here. Make sure you wear gloves."

He stopped and smiled at the class with an expectant raise of his brow. Those gems weren't going to polish themselves.

The rip and crunch sent a shiver trough Ophidia's spine as one of the acolytes opened a sugar stick. Her eyes trailed to the culprit, and just before she could take the sugar-stick away, the teacher snatched it up and threw it into the forge. Ophidia's hand relaxed as she readjusted herself in her seat and focused once more on the class ahead. She inspected the gem closely as it was handed to her, and held it quite tightly when she learned that it was a Corusca crystal. These gems were quite valuable, and extremely desired.

Even before the look was given, she started polishing her gem. Her eyes were wholly focused on the work in her hands as she meticulously polished down the edges to make a smooth oval shape. It was a difficult shape to get perfect, but she did not want to waste such a precious material. She found the work quite enjoyable as she worked away on the crystal. It felt a bit as if the crystal was gaining an expression from her. She could see the internal glow of the crystal becoming brighter as she worked into the material. It took time, of course, but before soon she was holding the gem up against the light to inspect her handiwork. She worked a little more, correcting and further polishing the surface, and then looked once more with a pleased look on her face.

T'zanith smiled and then nodded respectfully to [member="Sage Bane"] after his question was answered. Seeing [member="Ally Skycrawler"]'s little sugar stick burn in the force made him smirk a little as he heard the sugar stick's crackling sounds. However when the crystal was placed in front of him, he looked from the crystal to Bane with an expression that would be something like a mix of sarcasm and annoyance. 'Yeah because my eye sight is sooooo good, I can do this in my sleep!' He thought as he picked up the crystal and fondled it a little with one hand while he held the cutting tools in the other.
As he resigned to it he simply exhaled a little louder than normal and began to cut into the crystal to get it into a shape he'd use, an oval shape came to mind since he'd probably use it as a pendant. After each cut he moved a finger over it to be sure that no mistake was being made at all, mostly since he didn't have the patience to start again.... or get scolded for wasting what was apparently a rare gem.

After thanking Sage for his input, she took up a position on his right to keep an eye on the Acolytes and Knight that had amassed for the class. She was not being rude or stand-offish by any means, just simply looking at the new generation of Sith that would one day continue to lead the Order down the road of greatness. She even let out a small chuffing sound when one over eager Acolyte seemed to be pressing the issue that the class should start, and followed that with a smirk when Lord Bane flashed is answer.
Listening intently, she placed every word the Beautiful One spoke to memory. Her legendary memory was an advantage she held over most in the Sith, never forgetting betrayals or lack of activity from those that elected to call themselves Sith. Also, it allowed her to hold a deadly advantage over her enemies, easily recalling their actions and tactics and mannerisms. Then came the crystal.
Not wishing to taint the rare object with her hands until she was ready, she used the Force to gently raise the crystal from the hands of Lord Bane while taking the offered polishing tools. Carefully she began to move the amber crystal around in front of her, getting an idea of what she was working with. Darth Venefica was no stranger to crystals, having spent many sleepless nights bringing lightsaber crystals in tune with her own Force energies and signature.
Tools in one hand and the crystal now cradled in the other, she went to work. The process was slow going but it didn't bother her, she was learning and she was enjoying herself. With a few small cuts here and a few cuts there, the crystal had now taken the appropriate shape she had mentally designed beforehand.
Pulling skin tight gloves over her hands, she stepped in front of the cauldron staring into the bubbling liquid that reminded her of scrying, and smiled outwardly. First, the pendant was dipped into the liquid, eliminating any bacteria and impurities that would have been present at the time. Next, she repeated the process with the chain until both were cleansed to her satisfaction. All that was left now was to create the mold for the crystal inlay.

When Sage approached to pass out the Crystals and tools Vengeance giving the Lord a respectful bow of his head. He looked over the crystal in his hand turning it over and inspecting it. It was not a crystal he was familiar with though he did appreciate the color and rarity of it.

When his inspection was finished He set out to polishing the crystal working it gently from one end of the crystal to the other. Vengeance smiled to himself as he worked. Not being one to exhibit much patience he had learned and by extension grown a lot since he had first arrived among the Sith and his fellow acolytes. He had no true idea how long he had been working on the crystal only that it was his sole focus. Everyone and everything else in the room seemed to melt away. When he finally looked up he had a perfectly symmetrical Hexagon. He was not sure why that shape and had decided not to question it.

Giving the crystal another inspection Vengeance slowly steeped forward towards the Cauldron waiting quietly behind Darth Venefica for his turn.
