OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Salvaguia [sal-va-gwee-uh]
  • Classification: Residence
  • Location: Suicide Slums
  • Affiliation: The Sangnir
  • Accessibility: Nestled in the underbelly of Suicide Slums, there are many access points by which Salvaguia lures the unsuspecting and wayward, from back alleys to manholes to hidden doors. Most are unmapped, often stumbled upon, if not mysteriously ever-changing; while a few dedicated entrances are guarded by a small cult following. Known as "Porfirio's Lair" to the commonfolk, its name and whereabouts are a local legend, hardly spoken of beyond its neighboring slums.
  • Description: A patchwork network of tunnels and buildings. Mostly dilapidated architecture, comparable to the Slums around, the depths of its interior ranging from modern tech to Gothic to organic horror.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Lair/Labyrinth. Two interchangeable words to describe Salvaguia as a whole, by the commonfolk, but depending on context: The former, the inner "heart" or rooms where other Sangnir and Porfirio himself reside. The latter, the outer maze of abandoned tunnels (sewers, subways, etc.) that has ensnared the lives and curiosity of many explorers lured by stories of Porfirio's Lair, seeking monsters or treasure within. The Labyrinth's fringes are a haven for homeless camps and other establishments seeking to profit off the Lair, as one of the Slums' minor tourist attractions. The full map of Salvaguia is known to only a few Sangnir that govern it. A small kingdom of Sangnir pleasure and pursuit, from science and religion to the carnal and occult, each chamber as uniquely furnished as the many guests who inhabit it.
  • The Magic. A dark magic, one of Sangnir making, lies heavy over the threshold of Salvaguia. Preying upon the mind, it casts tricks and illusions so as to conceal Salvaguia's presence from unfriendly eyes, as well as to lure and trap victims within.
  • The Horde. Deeper still, beyond the Magic veil, swarms of vampiric zombies (Sangnir Ferals, Husks, and Ghouls) prowl on alert, ready to devour those whom the Lair delivers. Few commonfolk have seen, let alone lived to tell about the undead hordes; though unbeknownst to them, technically, not all are "zombies". Some are quite "human" (Sangnir Thralls), roaming the streets or lurking within the Labyrinth; acting as guides, bent on leading victims astray.
SECURITY
High. Salvaguia was not designed so much as to prevent others from going in, but out, its primary defenses being Magic and the Horde, both of which bow to the authority of Porfirio and his Sangnir circle. Those welcome by Salvaguia's hosts can pass through with little difficulty. Those not, have rarely escaped undetected.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
It began as a humble alchemy lab, set up by a Sangnir sorcerer named Porfirio. Determined he was to preserve and protect his work, to cultivate his kind and dominion; over centuries, raising a Sangnir army to defend his expanding Lair, in testament to his power. Named Salvaguia, the "Well of Redemption" stemmed from the Elder Tongue, his home became a safehouse for other Sangnir across the galaxy. A temple, laboratory and vault, dedicated to advancing the Sangnir species, to redeem their fallen civilization.

As a wicked game of culling the strong from the weak, Porfirio would turn his victims inside the heart of the Lair. Left abandoned, feasting and turning on one another on the way out, most degenerated into Ferals and Husks, bound to Porfirio's will to guard the Lair as a hive mind; while those who escaped the labyrinth, proved themselves worthy as true Sangnir to be counted among Porfirio's elect offspring, silken words brainwashing their trauma into loyalty. Few ever struck out independently from their sire. Most were content to remain nearby, seeding tales about the mysterious vampire Porfirio and his haunted Lair (minus the Sangnir parts) and accumulating their own bands of Thralls and Ghouls by which to appease the Master and entice victims into his Embrace.
