I find that the posts that get the most 'likes' are usually some snarky GIF, Youtube video, or some comment that tears down another person's argument in OOC. I think it does promote a lot of hostility by saying, "I approve of this behavior." So it has little to do with how nice you are.

In theory, the 'likes' system is pretty cool. In practice, I don't think it can ever serve its purpose correctly.

I like giving people 'likes'. But I can certainly see that the system can cause problems.

Likes and reputation I like. Quality posts and posters should be acknowledged. But we're all too petty to handle it properly.
Basically.

Just looking at this thread... Nickolas Imura, Jared Ovmar, and Maria Natalja were the only ones who made any sort of constructive or on-topic post, but several 'likes' were handed out to people who were essentially trolling, thereby encouraging such behavior.

The system can work. But it usually doesn't.

I made an on topic post though

you know what guys, i think we should take this a step further and remove the post counts too so that new members dont feel intimidated

Humans aren't lovey dovey angel creatures sent from heaven to make love and fart out rainbows. Trying to stifle anything that is remotely offensive will just result in a stagnant, clinical, environment that is creepily nice and unnatural. We're competitive creatures, that's why there's a like system anyway. Removing it also removes an incentive to make interesting posts.

I believe we should take the like system even one step further.

Let's make the amount of likes dictate how powerful your characters is In-Character

*looks to his Like Count*

Please can we do that?
