SETTING INFORMATION

• Military Base Name: Point Eight

• Location: An asteroid somewhere within The Slice
• Affiliation: Order of Wonosa
• Population: Sparse
• Demographics: Primarily pilots from the Wonosan Starfighter Corps and other such Wonosan personnel, various Near-Human species.
• Accessibility: Point Eight is somewhat off the beaten path as it were, sat within an asteroid belt orbiting a gas giant sitting within The Slice. Its name is a reference to its coordinates, being mostly comprised of the number eight, yet it is by and large away from most hyperlanes and well traveled systems. As such its accessibility is mostly limited to those knowing its location or actively tracking ships heading to it, stumbling upon it in any other manner is simply quite unlikely. Access to Point Eight itself is limited to those within the Order of Wonosa and they don't tolerate interlopers or outsiders trying to infiltrate their base.
• Description: A rather sizeable asteroid hangs amidst its peers in a belt orbiting a cerulean tinted gas giant, scarce lights hinting at something more sat within the rock's confines. Several man made protrusions just out from the asteroid's surface and imply the inner structure buried underneath yet only one large hangar entrance provides clear access or even a proper view into the base. Industrial infrastructure lines the hangar's exterior and spreads out somewhat yet most of the other visible parts of Point Eight are military assets of one kind or another, ranging from antenna and viewports to turrets and extensions.

POINTS OF INTEREST

• Hangar Bay: The most obvious part of the structure from externally and by far the single largest room internally, the hangar occupies the bulk of a major internal cavity in the asteroid. It can be divided into three sections: a loading bay area meant for freighters and cargo vessels with large docking ports, various landing pads and docking clamps for smaller starships, and a rear cargo storage section which leads deeper into the asteroid and into the wider base itself.
• Cantina: Just past the hangar is a fairly sizeable social area consisting of a main dining space, a bar, and a former locker-room now transformed into a proper kitchen. The cantina was originally three separate rooms now largely merged into two, one serving as the kitchen and the other comprising the majority of the area to serve as seating and a communal area. There are even several screens set up around the cantina to provide the diners with entertainment while they chat and lounge around.
• Chapel: In what was once a spacious storage room there is now a humble chapel, filled with pews facing a small pulpit and altar dedicated to the Kotsûshatul Itsu. Several key verses from the Book of Broken Chains adorn the walls in carved Ur-Kittat scripture, shelves and newly made alcoves provide lighting via candles that give the room a serene and occult atmosphere.
• Barracks: Greatly expanded from its initial boundaries, amenities and a large communal bedroom as well as several smaller private housing units comprises the majority of the barracks area. A former locker-room space has now been converted to an armory, keeping equipment secured and out of the way of daily life for Point Eight's inhabitants. A side storage area has also been modified into a small recreation area.
• Call Center: One of the new areas carved from the asteroid by its newest denizens rather than repurposed from an existing section, located within one of the tips of the rock sits a room of terminals, screens, and desks centered around a large holoprojector console. A data center serves as the "heart" of the room, with each system feeding into and drawing from it. This area serves as the nexus for Wonosan communications and information all throughout The Slice, having both hyperwave and subspace transcievers intaking and broadcasting encrypted signals from the asteroid's antennas as well as from various comm satellites and other Wonosan bases and ships. As such it is also the primary source of the Xinklas within The Slice.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Point Eight was originally built by a local mining company within The Slice, likely based out of Garel or Ulmatra, to extract ores and minerals not only from the large asteroid that it was constructed into but also from the surrounding belt as well. It might have even potentially been a staging ground for future mining and extraction operations involving the gas giant that the belt orbits, however the company that built Point Eight didn't tend to it for too long. Whether the venture was simply unprofitable and thus abandoned or the company itself went out of business is unclear but regardless the mine would go untouched and uninhabited for a few decades after its construction.

Eventually however it would be discovered and restored by a gang of pirates who would take it as their base of operations. They expanded the hangar bay with landing areas for smaller craft and modified the interior with many quality of life amenities such as a bar and armory among other things. They would also be the ones to cobble together some spare laser cannons into a defensive array around the asteroid. From here they would launch several raids and make deals with other such criminal groups within the region, however their run of the place wouldn't last more than a couple of years before they were unceremoniously evicted.

A freshly purchased crate full of Sanguine Defense Works weaponry had also contained a tracking device, one which led the Order of Wonosa right to the pirates' doorstep. As per usual when they found criminal dens, they exterminated the gang with extreme prejudice. With the asteroid now once again vacant they decided to make good usage of it for their own means. Its isolated location made it ideal for their existing operations and once it was fully repaired from the battle to claim it the Order would begin using it as their own little spaceport for their fleets and ships in The Slice.

Over time however it would go from a simple outpost and rest stop to a far more integral part of Wonosan operations in The Slice as they began digging out new portions of the asteroid and establishing a communications hub. Point Eight, colloquially named due to its coordinates largely being a repetition of the number eight, would become the primary Xinklas source within The Slice not only for coordinating and linking together the Wonosan forces within the region but also to broadcast the feed into civilian networks without discovery. New defenses befitting its new importance as well as some further remodeling to account for a greater garrison would be made to Point Eight alongside the construction of the antenna.

At present Point Eight represents one of the foremost outposts and installations for the Order of Wonosa's operations within The Slice, their primary communications center within the region and one of their few ports where their vessels can be refueled and repaired without prying eyes or third party interaction needed. Investments into its defense and security have ensured that it serves as one of their prime assets in the region and a significant intelligence resource that they keep closely guarded and well used.
