Such a long list of demands. But then what would Mauve say to all of this? No? And consign herself to life in prison after a sham trial? Hardly.

"A small price," she repeated the words, almost in a trance, staring at her nails.

"Lady Tapalo," her lips twitched in a half-smile as she tried out the title, rolling it around on her tongue. Everything she'd ever wanted, wasn't it? Pretty good for a girl who came from a Nar Shaddaa gutter. But... it came with a leash.

Mauve licked her lips and swallowed.

"Some would say you're being too generous. But I guess that's what they mean when they say an offer you can't refuse," a soft, pathetic little laugh left Mauve's mouth and her eyes looked impossibly sad and distant for a moment, "Ok.... Ok. I'll do it."

She turned her gaze between the King of Naboo and its Queen. "I'll do it."

Sibylla inclined her head, the motion small but deliberate nod that sealed matters far more firmly than any flourish of ceremony ever could.

"Then we are in agreement," she said calmly, her voice carrying the quiet finality of a decision already set in motion. "The arrangements for the title transfer, estate reassignment, and your Republic citizenship will proceed without delay. Should you desire the lineage to be undisputed, a contract marriage to a Tapalo extended family can be arranged and paid off to make them scarce."

Titled nobility who were hurting for finances had conducted such marriage contracts to sell off their titles while gaining the credits to maintain the lifestyle they were accustomed to. After all, there were still concubines, which was a practice too common among the Royal and Great Houses when marriage was reserved for alliances rather than love. Many kept their affection elsewhere.

The sort of business that Sibylla was all too aware of and privy to the impacts of how such events would affect her own future.

"Chancellor Veruna will oversee the exchange of intelligence and coordinate the manpower you have requested and provide the location to meet with the Sith Princess."

She drew a slow breath before continuing.

"And as a titled member of a Royal House, I will serve as your primary point of contact regarding any concerns involving the Great Houses or the Royal Houses. You will not navigate that landscape alone."

For the first time since the negotiations began, Sibylla's expression softened in an earnest way that was simply human.

"I know these are not ideal circumstances under which to choose a future,"
Sibylla added gently. "But I do hope this proves to be a path that serves you as much as it serves the Republic."

At last, Sibylla met her gaze squarely.

"Welcome, then," Sibylla replied with a respectful incline of her head. "Lady Tapalo."

Another nod followed -- quieter this time -- less a seal than an acknowledgment.

The board had shifted and now the game moved forward.
