Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION

  • Astronomical Location Name: K-20
  • Classification: Moon
  • Location: Terminus System
  • Rotational Period: 25 Hours
  • Orbital Period: 15 Days
  • Size: Medium (0.9 Earths, 1.1G)
  • Affiliation: Crossroads Republic Armed Forces
  • Population: Heavy
  • Demographics: ~10,500,000,000
  • Accessibility: Next to a trade hub, easy to access.
  • Description: A moon which is locked into an orbital dance with its twin sister moon Delfino, with both moons locking themselves together, their gravity unable to repel away and their magnetic fields unable to make them crash together. The moon is tropical, with more temperate regions at the northern and southern polar regions which see occasional snow at the very polar regions. The ocean-to-land ratio is 70% to 30%, with most landmass spread out in large chains of volcanic islands which are around the twenty-two semi-active tectonic plates and a handful of hotspots in the middle of these mostly-basalt plates. These islands range widely in size, shape, and age, with some being volcanically active, others being new islands with great jungle highlands, and others being older island archipelagos covered in white sand and palm trees. These islands have numerous scattered cities, towns, and in the inland portions of the largest ones are farming communities with large orchards and farm fields. The biggest cities however are the Piantan locals' cities built underwater where they live at a relatively shallow depth. There are also large environmentally-friendly mines taking out large amounts of jewels, silver, and gold, which is the primary economic product of the colonists and the locals, although the second-largest is a massive fishing and shellfish industry which exports vast amounts of farmed and wild-caught fish and shellfish, followed by craft goods like exquisite stone statues, beautiful glass work, high-grade silk cloth, and a wide variety of local herbs and spices and other food-related additives. The most prominent non-colony and non-native architecture is the remnant of a Zeffo Laboratory off the shores of the largest landmass on the planet which is completely underwater and is guarded by a cult of local Piantans jealously and sometimes violently.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Trading Ports
: Mixed-species above-water cities and towns where Piantans and colonists of various species conduct peaceful trade and coexist with remarkable ease. These settlements are not very advanced at a glance, mostly thanks to the Delfinos who founded almost all of them a thousand years ago when they were assisted in doing so by the Old Republic. However, depending on the owner or developer these unremarkable buildings of wood, brick, and thatch can possess modern amenities and comforts or none at all, with old-fashioned bakers, blacksmiths, fishermen, and tailors toiling next to modern droids and speeders. These trading ports are home to CRAF garrisons of various sizes billeted in a guarded barracks compound with a barracks, mess hall, motor pool, landing pad, hangar, and storage alongside defensive weapons on prominent display along the compound walls.

Large Underwater Piantan Cities: Almost-entirely Piantan-populated. These cities are made of a mix of large shells, water-proof bricks, and exquisite stone work. These cities can be massive, populated with as many as sixty million Piantans over many square miles. Usually these cities are found in shallow areas and are lit by bioluminescence from a variety of sources. They are usually not guarded by CRAF forces, rather it is the independent cities who deal with their own law and order, only calling upon their Crossroads protectors in extreme situations or when dealing with outsiders.

Tropical Islands: These islands are the ideal tropical getaway destination, with almost every shape and size being represented on this moon.

Coral Reefs: Colorful reefs of enormous size and are home to masses of marine life of every shape, size and description.

Zeffo Laboratory: A sunken and ruined dome-like structure of stone and bronze-like metal which is regarded as sacred by the Piantans, and is guarded by the most militaristic sect of their society and possesses no major technological devices that are not equaled or superseded by the rest of the galaxy. However it does possess a large library that is mostly intact but has thus far proven impossible to decipher due to the dangerous Piantan warriors who guard it and its position in an underwater trench where most humanoids would find it impossible to reach.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

A moon which has, for as long as written records existed, has been in a solar dance with its twin, Delfino. The Piantans who evolved here did so in the depths of the sea and developed the ability to breath air later on in their evolution and eventually proved themselves adept sailors and the world was soon very-well populated as the Piantans sailed over previously-thought un-crossable ocean abyssal plains were just sailed over and several hundred independent city states cropped up across the planet. With a handful of exceptions the moon's populace existed in peace for their next eighty thousand years of recorded history, with only the very occasional dictators and kings disturbing the peace and plunging their world into warfare which at times lasted for decades and saw entire cities wiped off the face of the ocean floor. During this time they figured out electricity and developed their own radios, primitive flight with dirigibles, and contacted their twin moon who had developed some time before them. This fighting died off as trade and sport became the preferred method of rivalry for the most recent millennium of the moon's history, when Corellian star-mappers found the Terminus System and made contact with the Piantans who were introduced to their sister moon's populace, the Delfinos. Surprisingly, both species became fast friends, letting the other establish colonies in the lands and seas of their worlds where the native populace had no ability to live. This cross-colonization was accelerated as Crossroads Prime was colonized and then became independent shortly afterwards. The moon and its people also made fortunes with its vacation destination hotels and condos.

The two peaceful tropical twin moons were placed under the exclusive protection of the Crossroads Republic, who has viciously protected the two moons ever since. The Piantans are exempt from required military service due to logistics constraints. The greatest test for Pianta's protective status was when a Tarkin-sponsored mining operation was begun without Crossroads Prime's permission. The mining company was violently expelled after resisting orders to vacate the moon and Crossroads Prime's fleet was mobilized and met the Tarkin fleet in open battle in orbit over the moon. This led to Crossroads engaging in a month-long shooting war with the powerful Tarkins and the city world Eriadu in the defense of this peaceful moon and in the end the Tarkins were driven out. It took Jedi mediation to end this war, but the Tarkins found better pickings elsewhere and war was simply too politically costly a proposition to continue. Since then, only a brief Imperial blockade after the Battle of Endor has tarnished this moon's peaceful history.

BIG Z1776 BIG Z1776 Looks like a lovely addition to the system. I just have one tiny request to make:

  • Description | In the last sentence of the description, you mention a Zeffo lab. Please link the Zeffo species as the casual reader might not be aware of what they are. I've provided the link.
