Major Locations:
Canthar - The capital city of Panatha, originally known as Pacanthi, built by Canthar and his tribe during the closing years of the dark ages in the vast flatlands of the Pacanthi Highlands. Originally a small village, it has grown into the largest settlement on Panatha, a massive sprawling city housing roughly sixteen million inhabitants. The city is the epitome of Epicanthix architecture, a perfect blend of stone, steel, and jungle showcasing the people’s affinity with their world.

Cropis - One of the first Panathan city-states established during the golden age of the first Panathan Empire, Cropis is more of a high-walled fortress than an actual city, built within the low wetlands of the Blackmoor Marsh to the far west of the Pacanthi Highlands. The forefathers of the inhabitants had grown hard and stoic as a result of living in one of the harshest provinces on Panatha, and their rugged, spartan architecture made from the black iron abundant in the marshes.

Prethia - A Panatha city-state created roughly around the same time as Cropis, Prethia is the polar opposite of it’s southern marsh cousin. The city was built high in the ash-tipped peaks of the Iron Mountains north of the Pacanthi Highlands, but like Cropis it’s people were made hardy and brutal by their living conditions. It’s mighty ramparts and various mountain towers were laid low during a skirmish with the Epicanthix of Orcrait of the northern rainforests in 789 ABY, and all that remains of the once powerful city-state is a series of ruins and the echos of the mighty mountain winds.

Khedal - The third city-state to rise after the death of King Canthar, Khedal is an island kingdom south of Cropis and southwest of Canthar on the island of Cule, and is the uncontested masters of the Panathan seas. Their primary economy is solely based on fishing and mining, their control extending to many of the mineral rich archipelagos surrounding the continent, although their might has diminished recently with their fleet being laid low in 837 ABY during the Great War of Reunification.

Qocia - Created by religious zealots in the twilight era of the first Panathan Empire between the city-states of Cropis and Prethia, Qocia eventually evolved into the religious capital for all of Panatha; nay, even all of the Pacanth Reach. Their high ziggurats and expertly carved statues honor the Gods in the eyes of the Epicanthix masses, and while the city-state has no standing army, none dare to spoil the ‘city of the Gods’

Gekha - The last of the city-states to be created, Gekha was formed by the House of Luctacus, the last descendants of the great King Canthar, in the southern Lasian riverlands. Because of their lineage many members of this great house have risen to the throne of Panatha on many, many occasions. While the last family to sit on the throne before the Great War of Reunification, the ominously named Shadowcallers, were destroyed by the Lord Zambrano, the last descendants of Canthar were targeted because of their lineage. Gekha is nothing but a smoldering ruin, and it is said that none of the Luctacus survived it’s destruction.

But rumors persist of a survivor...

Culture: Epicanthix society has always been characterized by hardy and rugged living. As a result they are staunch pragmatists, and never shy from killing if it will protect the future of the Epicanthix or their tribe/family. All Epicanthix, regardless of gender or station, are expected to pull their own weight and weakness is considered a grave liability. The weakness of one contaminates the strength of all, and it is punishable by the greatest humiliation an Epicanthix can receive: exile.

There is no discrimination between genders in Epicanthix society. Women are able to pursue the same career choices as men, rise to positions of power and are even expected to answer to the call for battle just as men are. Strength (both physical and mental), courage, initiative, and independence are prized traits in all Epicanthix. Traditionally, Epicanthix children were seen as children of the parents, but were ultimately considered children of the tribe. However; ever since the fall of the first Panathan Empire the tribe-oriented kinship has evolved into the more centralized nuclear family, and thus many great and infamous houses had risen over the centuries.

The Epicanthix are also considered to be very spiritual, and have a diverse pantheon of deities they revere and worship. While the many gods of the Epicanthix culture were in one way or another connected to war and combat, there were several who embodied family, agriculture, and even fertility. One of their relatively newer traditions was to deify their kings and queens upon death, and make them part of a now ever-growing pantheon. They also had an appreciation for the arts, specifically painting and poetry, all of which were heavily influenced by war. In fact the ancient King Canthar was a warrior-poet, and is considered to be the chief architect of the Epicanthix's fascination with mixing their warlike ways with the fine arts.

Technology: While once possessing their own intricate technology that allowed them to travel through space, the Epicanthix eventually turned their focus away from industry and continued to focus on improving their society’s ability to wage war, and instead allowed intergalactic companies to manufacture weapons, armor, vehicles, and starships for them. Specifically Santhe, Sienar, and Hegemonic Automaton are all suppliers to the Panathan Empire, and even have manufacturing complexes on the Epicanthix homeworld.

History: Prior to the foundation of the Panathan Empire, the Epicanthix of Panatha lived in scattered tribes about the regions of what is now known as the continent of Orcrait. The region now known as the Strongwood was filled with dense fertile lands and rainforests that were largely unexplored past the regions of the Rasal Forest and the Dustein Foothills. The region now known as the Iron Mountains was a barren mountain region that housed a manner of fierce creatures, yet was rich for its mines and resources within the ash-capped mountain tops, a region inhabited by people who had acclimated to the cold and brutal lifestyle. The region now known as Blackmoor was a large peninsula, marshy in some regions, yet fertile and ripe for mining in others. Notably it was inhabited at the time by pagans who had worshiped primordial nature spirits, and supposedly drew on their divine powers of nature to survive. And within the Pacanthi Highlands laid long rolling fields with little trees, fertile for farming and filled with land apt for mining as well.

It was here that a tribe known as the Pacanthi under Chieftain Canthar had rose to ambition. Alongside his trusted friend and general, Decius, Canthar proposed a daring plan. The tribe would unite the various tribes of the Highlands then expand out into the other regions and unite the Epicanthix people under one banner, the banner of the Pacanthi. They would be forced to submit, but those who did would be treated fairly and granted equality under the banner so long as they served faithfully and acknowledged Canthar as king. With ambition and men to follow him, Canthar and Decius set out, conquering and bringing the tribes of the Highlands. Naming the region the Pacanthi Highlands as the center of the budding empire, Canthar reached out into the various regions nearby, his influence eventually bringing those of the Blackmoor clans and the Iron Mountain clans into the fold as well. Congregating at the site of Canthar's rise, the mighty city of Pacanthi was founded.

However; there were many who denied the call of Canthar, and directly opposed his ideals of a united Epicanthix empire. Thus, the warriors of Pacanthi, Blackmoor, and the Iron Mountains combined to create a mighty force that would become known as the Panathan Legion. Striking out from the Pacanthi Highlands, they conquering the lands of the Strongwood in the north, casting down the warlords who called that realm home. They struck out against the island tribes of Cule with boats made from wood and black iron, and soon only the riverlords of the southern hills and swamps remained for they were the strongest, but they soon fell before the united might of the Panathan Legions. The victorious armies of the Panathan returned home to highlands of Pacanthi. The Epicanthix society of Pacanthi grew and prospered, yet Canthar, fearful that his empire would splinter apart if it overextended itself, maintained that the city of Canthar was the center of the Panathan Empire. After many peaceful years of growth and commerce, mighty Canthar died of old age, leaving the empire's younger generations free to expand the empire beyond the lands of Pacanthi.

With King Canthar dead, the Epicanthix of Pacanthi expanded, setting up city states in various regions of the empire to act as cultural hubs. During this time, the Blackmoor and Iron Mountains rose as the first city states since Pacanthi, and were strong supporters of Pacanthi's authority. They created the cities of Cropis and Prethia. Following them came Khedal, established on a large island south of Orcrait and flourished on exports and trading. Cropis and Prethia made up large armies that would scour the lands for the empire, and Pacanthi flourished. However, all was not well within the empire. Even as it flourished, the strongest elements of the empire were at odds with one another, and thus began the signal of the end. The mighty lords of Pacanthi sought to move their estates and homes to the beautiful and unsettled lands north in lush fertile Orcrait, so it might become the new seat of the empire. However, Canthar's descendants refused and many of the lords departed anyway to establish the city state of Qocia. In time, Qocia grew into a localized theocracy, and eventually its own kingdom. With this, Pacanthi's power began to wane as the various city states began to take more and more autonomy onto themselves for one reason or the other. With the empire's collapse inevitable, the descendants of Canthar, the House of Luctacus, departed to the southern reaches of the continent, founding the Kingdom of Gekha in the lush fertile Lasian Riverlands.

With their leaders gone, the empire finally collapsed. The various city states had deemed themselves kingdoms in their own right, some warring and squabbling over land and territory while Pacanthi was left on its own. Unwilling to allow the once heart of the empire fade into nothingness, the House of Tamás, descended from Emperor Canthar's right hand, Decius, took up the crown onto themselves. Renaming the region into the Kingdom of Canthar and renaming their city to Canthar as well, the men and women of the region took it upon themselves to guard the legacy of their people. Thus was the end of the empire, having lasted about 1,650 years before the first fracture and only to falter to the very thing that Canthar had feared would happen should they over extend their reach. Eventually the technology of the greater galaxy would reach the planet, which the natives named Panatha, and the Epicanthix would spread from their homeworld and into the neighboring star systems in their star cluster, which would be named the Pacanth Reach after the now defunct Pacanthi tribe.

For roughly 3,850 years the people of the Pacanth Reach would remain independent kingdoms, valuing their own autonomy but sharing a collective culture that spread from Panatha to Bunduki to Sorimow, Fornow, and Ravaath. While the Pacanth Reach would be part of various galactic organizations such as the Republic and the Empire, they would remain independent kingdoms despite various attempts to bring them together as one government. The ravages of the Gulag Plague would plunge the kingdoms of the Reach into a new dark age during the early fifth century ABY, but the Epicanthix people would endure as they always had. In the ninth century ABY the ancient Panathan Empire would be revived after the Epicanthix Sith Lord, Kaine Zambrano, returned to his homeland after years of serving another Empire in the Tion Cluster, and after disposing of the Pacanth Kings he united the entirety of the Pacanth Reach under a single banner, and declared himself King of Panatha, and Emperor of the Panathan Empire.

Notable PCs: Kaine Zambrano / Darth Vornskr, Asha Seren (RIP), any other Epicanthix PCs I can't remember
Intent: To actually flesh out the planet Panatha and it’s people, as the actual lore behind them is so woefully lacking.

This is woefully lacking a brilliant submission. I rather enjoyed it from beginning to end! There's no complaints from me but I couldn't find any reference of the Jungle Viper anywhere, so I recommend making species sub for that if you haven't planned to already.

Pending secondary.
