As part of the continuing modernization program for the company, Aurora Industries had decided to revisit one of its oldest and increasingly obsolete models. The Strider-class Bulk Freighter had been designed and built in the company's early days as Krayt Industries and had never been upgraded or tweaked since then. It was decided that a new bulk freighter, to sell on the open market and for the company to use in transporting the various materials and equipment for its operations, was needed.
The Pakader-class Bulk Freighter is considered an improvement in everyway on the Strider-class. The cargo capacity was increased by a further 20,000 metric tons, along with a much needed enhancement of the ship's sublight speeds and hyperdrive. Hull plating layered with the company's trilamnium alloy allows the ship to survive more attacks from unexpected raiders and pirates while a major advancement over the old ship is the inclusion of two quad laser cannons to give the ship some means of fighting back against enemies, if they are not a military grade starship bigger than a fighter.
