SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Joint Base McCarran
  • Classification: Outpost
  • Location: Kirdo
  • Affiliation: Rimward Trade League
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: Mixed
    • A mix of humanoids and non-humanoids, perhaps more of the latter than the former. Most of whom arrive here are members of one of the RTL’s varied services. The civilians who arrive are typically native to Kirdo and even then their stay is typically brief.
  • Accessibility: Private Access - With Exception

Finding Outpost McCarran is easy enough; it's one of the few on the planet. It’s noticeable within Crimson Canyon itself. Gaining access beyond the ground floor is another matter entirely. Access is strictly limited to members of the Rimward Rescue Service, Ranger Corps or Jedi Coalition should they be needed there. Civilians are only given access to the ground floor and then in the case of emergencies.
  • Description: Nestled into Crimson Canyon, Outpost McCarran serves as a joint base for both the Rescue Service and the Ranger Corps. Built of duracrete, reinforced with concrete, and a mix of alusteel and durasteel rebar. Its rectangular-shaped entry juts out from the canyon. The Outposts’ large, turadium three-meter thick blast doors, embellished with the RTL’s logo on the center are often closed - opened only when absolutely necessary. Smaller entrances line the left and right sides of the constructed entry.

Across from the entry, there lay a large landing pad that serves most atmospheric-capable freighters. Behind it, along the ridge, are several square, geodesic domed, and other rectangular-shaped buildings. Mirroring them just to the left of the entry, back along Crimson Canyon’s walls are octagonal, geodesic domes - all built to do their best to resist Kirdo’s high winds.

Jagged, triangular, teeth-like shaped canopies crafted from a combined carbonite nanofiber, nanofoil, tied down by an intertwining of spacer’s leather and callacord. Anchored to the material of which the outpost’s entry was constructed. Line the ridge wall facing the canyon itself, and further down against the domes. Are vendors who sit well below the canopies and invite those who care to step down and into the markets.

Technological solutions to the wind are heavily utilized here. Many who frequent Outpost McCarran often wear protective coverings along their entire form to keep themselves safe from Kirdo’s notorious winds.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Canyon Section: Behind the massive entry, built deep within the Crimson Canyon itself. Three levels, known as the Canyon Section of Outpost McCarran. These levels house sensor equipment, and link to in-orbit communications via RTL intrafleet communications.
    • Level 1: Communications
    • Level 2: Sensor Equipment
    • Level 3: Radio Operations
  • Ground Floor: This level sits, for the most part, empty - on occasion, there are cots, food services, and emergency medical services for refugees passing through. Absent of this, the floor doubles as extra storage - when necessary - and can act as a vehicle depot as well. A lift built deep within the outpost serves to connect this level with the canyon and sub-levels.
  • Sub Levels: Beneath the canyon floor rests several sub-levels that serve Ranger Corps and Rescue Services. A brief description of what is included is listed below.
    • Sub Level 1: Sciences Suite, Medical Bay, Engineering Analysis Suite, Conference Room, Briefing Auditorium, Speeder Bay, Speeder Maintenance Garage, Cargo Bay, Storage Facilities
    • Sub Level 2: Infirmary, Surgical Suites, Medical Equipment Servicing, Medical Technology Suites, Recovery Rooms, Meditation Room
    • Sub Level 3: Dormitories, Mess Hall, Administration, Commissary, Physical Training Facility, Day Room, Quartermaster, Cantina
    • Sub Level 4: RC Locker Rooms, Armory, Armorer, Weaponsmith, RC Equipment Storage, RC Office Suites, RC Briefing Room, Workshop
    • Sub Level 5: Research Labs, Bacta Pools, Medical Labs, Pharmaceutical Labs, Decontamination Facilities, RRS Equipment Storage, RRS Briefing Room, RRS Office Suites, RRS Locker Rooms
    • Sub Level 6: Storage Facilities, Minor Fabrication Workshop, Jedi Training Dojo, Weapons Range, Coordination Center, Droid Maintenance Facility
    • Sub Level 7: Power Facilities, Security Control Room, Climatology Labs, Meteorological Labs, Geophysical Labs, Geological Labs

SECURITY
High

Security at Outpost McCarran is high, from clandestine patrols outside to armored, and heavily armored units within the outpost itself. Droids, coupled with retractable auto blasters, turrets, turadium blast barriers help with emergency protocols. Biometric security systems, extensive camera networks, motion detection systems are also in place inside and outside the Outpost.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Ariel Yvarro dispatched resources to Kirdo in an effort to aid the Rimward Trade League. These resources were able to locate a favorable if this can be said of any part of Kirdo, spot. Within the sturdy rocks and canyon walls some distance from where a smaller forward operating base had been established. Outpost McCarran was established as a joint base to aid both the Ranger Corps and Rescue Service.

Funding was brought forth through Ariel’s work with the Mountbatten Expedition in the regions referred to as the Scar Worlds. The Mountbatten Expedition was transformed into the Althorp-Herevan Foundation, the non-profit arm of Primo Victorian Shipwright. Joint Base McCarran was transferred to the RTL upon its completion. Ariel hopes that the base will serve the Rimward Trade League well, in its efforts to rid the area of slavers and maintain a presence in the Outer Rim.

Construction for this outpost and others like it on Kirdo proved challenging and difficult considering the conditions on the planet. Most of the structures and domes were pre-fabricated off-world and brought to Kirdo. Ariel sought out specialized contractors throughout the Outer Rim and the Unknown Regions in creating the outpost.
