STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Armaments - The Outbound-class improves upon the already impressive arsenal of its predecessor with the inclusion of additional weapon systems and multiple warhead launchers lacking from previous iterations.
  • Hyperspace Beacons - Vessels of this series have been equipped with deployable hyperspace beacons to assist in mapping out new navigational and hyperspace routes.
  • Heavy Defenses - Each vessel is known to be capable of withstanding a withering salvo of fire and remaining in the fight due to the increased defensive capabilities.
WEAKNESSES
  • Slow and Ungainly - The inclusion of additional offensive and defensive measures has resulted in a vessel with lower lightspeed acceleration as well as diminished maneuverability.
  • Weapon Blisters - Located along the vessel at various points are bulbous constructs that house the primary weapon systems of these vessels. These blisters make for tantalizing targets, and sufficient damage to one has the potential of rendering all weapons located in that blister, inoperable.
  • Central Fuselage - Situated between the forward command deck and the rear engineering and power core housing are the primary docking ports and reserve generators. This area, though still well protected, is less reinforced than other areas of the vessel; and sufficient damage to the section has the potential of rending the vessel in half.
DESCRIPTION
The Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser, a ubiquitous vessel that found itself in the hands of the Old Republic, the Empire, Planetary Defense Forces, and everything and everyone in between. Even now, vessels of this class that have survived hundreds of years can still be found in the most far-flung of reaches, despite their heavy crew requirements and their infamous design flaws that led to the catastrophic Katana Fleet Incident and the ill-fated Outbound Flight Project. However, history aside, the usefulness of these vessels was more than enough to deem a redesign necessary to further bolster the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet, leading to the introduction of the Outbound-class Heavy Cruiser.

The Outbound-class Heavy Cruiser is a larger variant of its predecessors and includes improvements over older designs. The main noticeable improvement over its predecessors is that of crew requirements, with the Outbound-class capable of functioning with a smaller crew than the Dreadnaught-class which often required six times the manpower. Likewise, the Outbound-class comes equipped with a more powerful hyperdrive and boasts a larger armament than its predecessors. Additionally, the Outbound-class is capable of supporting two full squadrons of Starfighters as well as a full squadron of support craft.

However, the vessel still retains some design flaws of its predecessors as well as a few of its own. The addition of a wider array of armaments and defensive capabilities has resulted in a vessel that is much slower at sublight speeds and lacks acceleration compared to similar-sized vessels designed around speed. Likewise, the Outbound-class is known to lack maneuverability, and otherwise incapable of pulling off the more tactile and delicate maneuvers that some Cruisers are capable of performing. Though the vessel features heavier defensive capabilities, a portion of its fuselage remains vulnerable, specifically the region that houses the docking ports and reserve generators; with sufficient damage to the section having the potential of rending the vessel in half.

Despite these drawbacks, the Outbound-class has already proven itself reliable, with the very first prototype designs having served in defending the Keera Major Orbital Array and preventing the Dark Empire from taking hold of that system. With the Galactic Alliance once more having control of the Deep Core and the recent Galactic Convergence having thrown the Galactic Community into even greater Chaos, the need for this vessel is even more evident than it was before. With the Galactic Alliance Chancellor announcing a new endeavor to chart the shifting hyperlanes between Alliance Systems, the Outbound-class was rapidly equipped with Hyperspace Beacons to facilitate mapping these lanes, and the first new fleets of these vessels are poised to sweep through the Alliance by bolstering the renewed Outbound Flight Project.
