War Marshal Helix
Technological Terror
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Helix had long been fascinated with Otherspace's black stars, which seemed to emit a sort of anti-luminescence found nowhere in his home galaxy.
After numerous costly trials, the newly-renamed Helix Privateers managed to synthesize a similar reaction outside of that realm. It was discovered that initiating a fusion reaction with Otherspace-native materials, such as Helsteel, would lead to the resultant miniature star shining with a night-black falselight that hurt the eyes to look upon. While similar in essence and application to normal plasma, this altered variant had its own quirks.
Unfortunately, the original purpose of these experiments was a repeated failure, that being to allow the crafting of Helix's anomalous metals outside of Otherspace. Helsteel and Shiftsteel, it seemed, were doomed to be born only in the nightmare realm proper.
However, several other useful applications for the shimmering black star-stuff were discovered, at some cost in both credits and lives. The substance burned at incredible temperatures, some 15-20 million degrees Celsius. This was similar, perhaps unsurprisingly, to the temperature of particularly hot stars. The military applications were obvious.
When goaded into a self-sustaining reaction (in essence creating a miniature of Otherspace's black stars) a properly harnessed Otherplasma mote can generate enormous amounts of energy, which can be siphoned off to provide long-lasting power. Depending on the size of the reaction, an active Otherspace microstar can power anything from a tank to a small starship.
However, the material seems to despise being caged, and even with Helix's mastery of magnetic fields and gravitic suspension, the raging motes can only barely be kept in check. The result, should one breach containment, is predictable: the vaporization of all but the most heavily thermal-shielded objects nearby, and the failure of whatever machines the reaction was powering.

- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: N/A
- Manufacturer: Helix Privateers
- Affiliation: Helix Privateers
- Market Status: Closed-Market
- Model: N/A
- Modularity: No
- Production: Mass-Produced
- Material: Plasma, Helsteel, Shiftsteel
- Powerful, long-lasting energy source
- Highly unstable
- Gets Hot: Otherplasma burns at a truly frightening temperature, nearly the heat of most stars' cores.
- Energetic: An Otherplasma-based fusion reaction generates tremendous energy, which (with great care) can be used to power various systems in lieu of a normal reactor.
- Unstable: Otherplasma is incredibly unstable, and can barely be harnessed even by powerful magnetic fields. Containment failures are extremely unhealthy for anyone nearby.
