GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: Standard
  • Climate:
    Arid
  • Irradiated

[*]Primary Terrain:
  • Wastelands
  • Mountains
  • Water-less Oceans
  • Mineral-rich Rock Formations
    Formally; Grasslands, Forests, & Oceans

[*]Major Locations:
  • The Ostarvis IV Jedi Academy
A sprawling academy complex built near the planet's northern magnetic pole out of the way of most of the native's population. Comprised of several ziggurats and square-shaped structures, the academy was built by the Jedi not long after the Republic began to expand beyond Chiss space and into the greater Unknown Regions and was made for the purpose of housing a great number of Jedi in preparation to further scout and explore the large tracts of unexplored space. However; it would later become a refuge and hidden base to strike out against the One Sith during the Great War and was eventually discovered and destroyed by Darth Vornskr along with the rest of the planet's surface.

[*]Alien Civilization
  • Practically nothing is left of the alien civilization that inhabited Ostarvis IV save for a few scant ruins buried beneath the rock and sand of the endless wastes. Where there was once towering skyscrapers dedicated to the reverence of the stars, there is only desolation and unfathomable death. The bones of tens of thousand slain natives litter the land where their great cities and monuments once stood, fossilized by the destructive force unleashed upon their world by the Sith.

FORCE NEXUS
  • Size: Planet-wide Dark Side Nexus
  • Effect: Like most places of high Dark Side concentration, Ostarvis IV is perpetually wreathed in an atmosphere of overwhelming doom. The air is cold, icy even, despite the arid terrain and the remorseless light of the sun that bakes the ground. The winds howl with the wails of the souls consumed by hate, a thousand's thousand voices all crying out in unison, the last echoes of their terrified screams as the nuclear salvos from above incinerated their world and consigned them all to damnation. Those who are more attuned to the Light Side will find their powers woefully diminished by the nexus, while those who are bound to the Dark Side of the Force will find their powers amplified; yet all risk the loss of their sanity the longer they stay in proximity of the world.
  • Intent: To properly account for the incredible and sudden loss of life on the planet as an all-encompassing nexus of Dark Side energy
POPULATION
  • Native Species: None
    Formally; Unknown Reptoid Alien Species

[*]Immigrated Species: None
  • Formally; Humans, Twi'leks, Togrutas, various other Near-Human and Alien species

[*]Population: None
  • Formally; Approx. 2,800,000

[*]Demographics: None
  • Formally;
    99.64% Native Aliens
  • 0.36% Jedi

[*]Primary Languages: Unknown, common Jedi language was Galactic Basic Standard
[*]Culture: Not much is left of the alien civilization that inhabited Ostarvis IV in the twilight years of the Grand Republic, but from what was documented prior to the planet's desolation one could gather that the natives were reptilian in biology and possessed an isolationist culture that revolved around religion and astronomy. Stone tablets recovered from the ruins of the planet detail that these reptoids worshipped the stars and other celestial objects as deities and based every major aspect of civilization around what was divined from the heavens by the society's rulers, who were suspected to be expert astronomers and were possibly Force sensitive. Their relation to the large Jedi Academy on the planet was unknown, but it was suspected that they remained neutral to the Jedi and avoided contact and confrontation with them except for rare instances of trade.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: None
    Formally; Tribal Oligarchy

[*]Affiliation: None
  • Formally; Grand Republic [Jedi]

[*]Wealth: None
[*]Stability: None
[*]Freedom & Oppression: Again, not much is truly known exactly how the alien society was between the ruling elite and the lower classes, but from some archaeological relics it was implied that there were some tensions between the classes that might've boiled over into civil unrest had their civilization not been entirely wiped out by the Sith.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: The native aliens did not possess a large military except for the standard guard force and hunter organizations that hunted the native beasts of Ostarvis IV. The Jedi, however; were quite numerous in relation to other Jedi Academies across the galaxy, although when compared to the native aliens they were woefully outnumbered.
  • Technology: From what can be gathered from archaeological excavations the natives were primitive, they hadn't yet achieved space travel and still relied on fossil fuels like coal and oil to power their daily lives. The small Jedi minority on the other hand possessed galactic standard technology such as starships, lightsabers, and other modern conveniences found across the Republic. All of this was annihilated along with the planet's surface.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Ostarvis IV developed like any other world, born from the dust and debris of its young solar system and peppered with celestial meteors and comets before eventually being consumed by water. Life developed as one would expect, single-celled organisms thriving in the ocean before evolving into larger creatures and then ultimately moving up onto land. The beings that would ultimately evolve from those earliest lifeforms would become known to historians as the Reptoids, for their original name was lost when their world was maliciously destroyed by the Sith during the Great War.

They developed an appreciation for the stars that eventually became an intense fixation that began to shape Reptoid society from the top down until every aspect of their culture revolved around the stars and their portents. The ruling elite controlled their civilization by divining the heavens, often to keep themselves in power and to maintain the class status quo their forefathers had established centuries prior.

When the Jedi came to their world, the Reptoids were naturally suspicious of the visitors from beyond the stars. However; thanks to their advanced telescopes and other astral monitoring equipment they were aware of their arrival long before they actually made planetfall, and at first they attempted to drive the Jedi back into space. Their efforts went nowhere for the Jedi, while dramatically outnumbered by the Reptoids, were all strong in the Force and managed to diffuse the situation before it escalated into true outright violence. They negotiated with their leaders and managed to convince them to allow the Jedi to build a praxeum on the world, far from civilization, that would serve as a waystation for further exploration of the largely uncharted space in which Ostarvis IV was a part of.

Such things would never come to pass, for only several years after the Jedi's establishment of an academy on Ostarvis IV the Sith returned to the galaxy. They struck out from the Deep Core, spilling out over the unsuspecting Republic and wrestling Coruscant from their control in one swift stroke. All ideas of exploration were forgotten as the academy now became a hidden base that the Republic could use to strike out against the Sith, especially after they spread through Chiss Space and took control of their famous shipyards. The Jedi would launch countless raids on One Sith shipping convoys and patrols, eventually leading to the Sith dispatching Darth Vornskr to take control of the situation and eliminate the threat.

Vornskr traced the Jedi back to their hidden academy on Ostarvis IV, and prepared to besiege the planet by blockading it and then subjecting it to total planetary bombardment. Slowly a massive Sith-Imperial War Fleet materialized over Ostarvis IV, thousands of destroyers and thousands more smaller frigates and corvettes. However; Vornskr wasn't content with just a simple orbital bombardment, he wanted the Jedi to truly suffer for the indignation they had inflicted upon the One Sith Empire. He would see all of Ostarvis IV burn, the Jedi and the natives along with it. Every destroyer-class warship in his fleet was armed with nuclear warheads, and once they had firmly encircled the planet they launched all of their payloads at once to bathe the planet in a great shroud of nuclear fire.

Entire continents were laid bare, their landscapes seared to bare rock, their populations vaporised in seconds as winds of fire swept across their surfaces in a deadly gale of blazing destruction. Cities exploded as gas lines went up, blazing towers of fire whipping madly in the deadly firestorm. Nothing could survive as flesh, stone and metal were vitrified or melted in the unimaginable temperatures. Entire sprawls of buildings collapsed, the bodies of their former occupants reduced to ashen waste on the wind, palaces of marble and industrial heartlands destroyed in gigantic mushroom clouds as the storm of flame swept around Ostarvis IV with relentless, mindless destruction until it seemed as though the entire globe was ablaze. Not even the oceans were left standing as the salt water within them boiled and dried up from the intense heat, leaving behind great canyons of scorched rock and ash.

In the span of several minutes roughly two million and eight hundred thousand sentients perished alongside their world, and as the fires settled nothing was left except a ruined world saturated in lethal radiation.
